Comment: Question: Were these relatives concerned about Mother Parks when she was alive? Did they visit, help clean her house and keep an eye on her? Some reports indicate that she was all but abandoned by her relatives during her years of illness and I'd just like to know what the truth is. Regardless, she is still the Mother of our Civil Rights movement and will be loved forever.

Comment: 'nuther question: Why was Elaine Steele, a non-relative, appointed by Mother Parks to be her custodian? Evidently, Mother Parks knew, well in advance, who had her best intentions in mind.

Comment: Good points, fanteeking. Another question, I want to ask is where were these relatives when she was robbed and beaten in her home? I find it interesting that during Ms Parks' illness, that they didn't see to seek litigation against Ms. Steele. They should have been concerned about Ms. Parks image and supported her fondation when she was ALIVE. Now, in death, they are so 'concerned' with her image and legacy. *shaking my head*

Comment: What I find even more disconcerting was that up to the last minute she was an able bodied woman obviously capable of caring for herself and none of them took the opportunity to either live with her or have her live with them. You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family.

Comment: I also co-sign with all the comments posted here. Elaine Steele has been around Rosa Parks for decades....and I seriously wonder (since the family keeps talking about those funeral programs) was it them who put the program up for auction on ebay (along with a cancelled personal check made out to a pharmacy) in the first place. It's amazing what happens when family thinks there is money involved.

Comment: >Teigh and fellow siblings: I betcha a dollar to a donut hole that those 'relatives' were the ones who put those funeral programs on ebay. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. With 'relatives' like those I don't need enemies!
