Comment: I don't ususally read this column but - damn! He's got points all over the place on this one and maybe it's past time for parents to insist and maybe even volunteer to teach a segment of black history with nothing but the contributions of women to help the younger generation appreciate the struggle, the death that come with trying to leave a legacy - a legacy they never got! It has to start someplace and it has to be quick cause there is way too much disrespect coming from both sides for us to be enough of a community to come together and bring the masses.

Comment: That's on the strength right there!....Self love starts from within the barriers of the home..How can we expect our young brothers to love and respect us if we allow ourselves to be disrespected in front of them?

Comment: Excellent, excellent piece.

Comment: I have to co-sign, this article really hits home for a lot of brothers (and sistas) out there. I just wish we would all wake up and take account.

Comment: well that was quite uplifting *sarcasm*

Comment: I think Min. Scott is on point in his article. When a young brotha points a gun at someone who looks like him, he is really pointing that gun at himself. All black people really have to look into the mirror and seriously confront those internalized issues of self hate. Before that we must learn about self as an individual and our collective self. The likely result will be anger. That anger may turn inward or directed toward white Amerikkka. After the anger disipates (you can't stay angry forever) It will be time to build our communities. That study of self will include a comprehensive study of African psychology and an analysis of white supremacy. One must study the many many ways that white supremacy manifest itself in all aspects of our lives. Its not about the white man did this or did that but, about how systems that have been set up and are self perpetuating. Until we each undergo some form of this process of transformation we will continue to act, think and do as before. Conversely, when we gain a level of political and social conscienceness the end result is LIBERATION!!!

Comment: Toneka, Tyree....I guess he had to include some 'Black' names just so we got the point. Also, please don't dis slaves, talking about 300 pound 'bucks' crying while their wives are defiled...no slave-era man cried like a b(itch) when that happened, I'm sure. He probably got killed or maimed trying to kill the master. I mean, really now.Nice points but very much on the stereotypical side to get those few points across. I have always respected sisters and found this piece to be gimmicky, despite his larger goal of unity. So I hate this 'think' piece.

Comment: Thought provoking for sure. To the folks who complained about the names, I know some folks named Tyree so what's the big deal? Maybe he should have used an african name? The point is still the same.

Comment: The article although interesting, it missed some things, and does not apply to all Brothers. As a Christian I must address the following, Mary was not a white virgin, the bible clearly states that she was Jewish and her skin was possibly, no doubt darker than or comparable to Eartha Kitt. As for Ruth, she did not sleep with the pastor, he married her because she esteemed herself, her culture and she was a woman of dignity....did I mention she was also Jewish. There is a phrase: my people are destroyed by their lack of knowledge. If we're going to tell it tell it all. There is a conspiracy, somewhat, not totally... in which "to destroy the Black family by givin' the sista's more job opportunities than the Brotha's" but I ask, who is destroying the black family when the black man "arrives" and then decides to marry white, latina, asia, instead of pulling his "black sista" up with him. And why oh why is it necessary, for ol' boy to stay home eating Cheerios and playing PlayStation? There are government loans and educational opportunites to persue, become a doctor, become a lawyer these are fields where you can open your own practice and employ those in the community.....I don't know perhaps another brotha. (That's what the Jewish race did and now they depend on the White man for nothing and are beyond blaming him) Our brotha's are dealing with self hatred on a daily basis, and have left the community, there is no building up only tearing down. Angie Stone, sang it best in her song "Brotha"....Our black men are kings, royalty, a specimen above every other man. Somewhere along the line they forgot that, somewhere along the the way, they abandoned that..... we need to get back to that

Comment: I too enjoyed the article, but feel the gulf just might be too wide to breach at this point. @Pamalicious, I agree with you but I doubt if black men en masse will get your message. Now that we are outnumbered by latinos and all the other forces taking place...they will get it...but it'll be way too late when they do. Everybody ponders why the black man is so vulnerable and gullible when it comes to nonblack women. I believe they feel inferior and think aligning themselves with something they perceive as superior to black women will uplift them. They are willing and ready to die for the pleasure of being next to nonwhite skin. Yet still believe black women should put them first even though they tell us in no uncertain terms that the feeling is not mutual. Many black men hate Oprah's guts because they don't command the attention and elevation they feel they deserve from her.

Comment: Great article. I think most people get caught up in the minute details of the article and not the overall big picture. We all need to respect ourselves, love ourselves, uplift ourselves and unify. Peace

Name: Gemami
Comment: queenubya, I was thinking the same thing as I read the comments. Love, Respect, Unity... that should be our mantra.
