Comment: I would expect no less than what she said. Oprah doesn't do or say anything just for the hell of it. I love LUDA for his buisness sense, but I totaly from the begining knew oprah wasn't on some I hate hip tip. Exactly what she said about rap having a global impact is what frustrates me with some of music today. Some of these rappers don't give damn, its just about getting bread. They have no clue about how much influnce they carry, and when they spew their bs how much it affects how we as a people are preceived.

Comment: If anyone ever questioned the influence and power of hip-hop, those concerns should now be put to rest. Of all people, "Oprah Winfrey" felt "compelled" to clear up a "misconception" of her feelings 'bout hip-hop. Case Closed! Thanks!

Comment: While I give Oprah her props for all she does and has done, however, contrary to POPULAR opinion, everything she says ain’t the gospel. I’m not a Luda, 50, or Kanye fan, (Tupac is the only Rap I own) although I see where Luda is coming from. Oprah tends to have a condescending, stereotypical tone when it comes to certain issues that she tries to conceal, but still, it comes through.
It's evident when she refers to “Rappers” and particularly the (accused) child molesters she so passionately wants to put in jail. I think a lot of it has to do with her aim to be politically correct and lack of objectivity due to her own molestation. Granted, she is entitled to her OPINION and it is HER show. However, she has the same responsibility for what she leads her viewers to perceive and believe as she’s holding rappers to, all the while she implies that they are a bad influence and people ACCUSED of criminal activity are guilty, before having their day in court. I’m also weary of hearing about how much she’s donated to charity because there are others who have given as much or more, long before she had it to give, who either don’t boast about it, do it anonymously, or whose efforts have simply been ignored by the mainstream, because they didn’t have the platform that Oprah has to promote the media agendas. Just my OPINION…

Comment: I believe Luda because most of her shows are gear to white women and every now and then she may have blacks on..that's why I don't watch her for that reason. But we know who really control her show regardless of how much money she has...just let her have the wrong guest on her show and we all will see. Its great she gives because peope have given to her....

His explanations were stupid. You can't explain it away. Ms.Mo> though you are entitled to your own opinion, I'm trying to figure out where you are going.

Basically, I’m sayin’ that stereotyping and oppression is not limited to callin’ people “N’s” and “B’s”. The implication that ALL rappers are a negative influence or that all ACCUSED molesters are guilty is stereotypical as well.

Comment: There is NOTHING WRONG with Oprah or her publicist coming forward to SPEAK on the MOST POWERFUL BLACK WOMEN in the history of TV that she has given generously to the victims of Katrina or any other charity. Those people were BLACK. What is wrong with our own helping our own? HELLO! This lady has POWER and her saying what she has done will ignite HER rich FRIENDS, affiliates, associates...act in a like manner. If it were YOU who were devestated would you care who said what as long as you got some clothes a little something in YOUR belly?
Let's not get all soft on this subject and get off base. I believe it is heartwarming to KNOW someone in Oprah's position has given, especially when your own President was slow to the draw with what he could do or should have.
Let us NOT knit pick Oprah Winfrey. Our people as a whole have MORE to be concerned with don't we? We ALL KNOW some of the rap lyrics are MISERABLY WRONG, nonetheless we enjoy it and KNOW ALL THE WORDS. How do we JUSTIFY, we can't and we should not. We can't allow SOME PEOPLE to take a FEW WORDS and TRY to misconstrue the ENTIRE genre of music as hate filled... A few of those words no matter what beat surrounds them are WRONG period. What the lady is saying and politely doing is attempting to OPEN OUR EYES to the AFFECT and POWER a man like Luda has...Instead of pulling down the black women ANY FURTHER by the MOUTH of her own black man we are making RICH Luda needs to CONSIDER what Ms. Winfrey is saying. He should be THANKFUL and so should we.
Never mattered to me before last year so there is HOPE for us all, but NOW I am starting to see differently on the issue of SOME of the words in certain songs. The particular word's ROOT comes from something horrid that BLACKS were known as. The words STILL has power that can evoke a fist fight in most of us. Let's not walk with our eyes CLOSED, but TRY to understand with an open mind. We DO have the power to take the WORD and release it from what it meant, but we ARE NOT doing that.
We are allowing it to become a household word and meanwhile the rest of the world looks at blacks cross eyed thinking once again...those people sure know how to be backwards and still live to talk about it.
We have ENOUGH with black families in decline, lack of education for your youth, job situation for our people, black boys without a Daddy and black men increasingly loving MEN more than their own women. Let's STOP and examine where we ARE and where we are going...Does chasing your tail put it simple enough?

Comment: I don't understand why seemingly intelligent people like Oprah and others choose to empower ignorant people by making this word soooo important. By saying it should be banned she's only giving it that much more power. The more you cry about how offensive a word is and instigate the banning of its use, the more weight it has when it is actually used to try and smear. Feel free to call me a %*$!(@ anywhere & anytime you want and I'll be an even prouder powerful %*$!(@ up in your face since I know you're so idiotic to believe that your ignorance empowers you. Then what? That word aint hurting me. So now whatchya got?

Comment: What the hell? I'm scratching my damn head at MsMo and JsNj! You seem very upset at Oprah and I dont see why you should be! I love Hip-Hop as mush as anyone in this generation but as we get older and wiser, supposedly, and start becoming parents, we are and should be examining the things we do and say because, especially those of us that are in the spotlight ie. Luda, Oprah, 50, Halle, Denzel, etc. are the amb%*$adors of the African American community whether you want to be or not. So with that comes some level of responsibility, and why shouldn't it? When you receive great things, great things will be required of you, thats the trade off, and whats wrong with that? We are so scared about stepping to the forefront for something positive and to be that example, but we'll argue about why it messed up of Oprah to step up to our own people and ask that we think and be wise in our choices so that we are being perceived in the best possible and positive way to the world! If we are not willing to help to check ourselves as a people, who will? You think other folks give a damn if we are calling each other N*ggas, %*$!(es,and Ho's! Thats what a lot of them think we are anyway! I think the Oprahs and Bill Cosby's of the world are just trying to get us to stop manifesting these images ourselves! Just something to think about my people.

Exactly. So why give them more amo by honoring their belief that a word created by their ignorance actually has power to hurt. Her touchiness about the word only furthers their cause. I know she comes from a good place, but her thinking is shallow on this point. A word will NEVER be banned. Her attempts to do so will only fuel its power.

Some of you guys are really on this tip that know one can judge anyone. Therefore, anything goes. As a people we have to put our foot down concerning some of the cooning and demeaning things we say and do.
You can't ban the word but we as a people can stop using it and demeaning ourselves. Unless you really think being called a n****R is a good thing.
If you do I feel sorry for you because you have just bought into some serious negativity about African-Americans.

Comment: As far as rappers now going after the Queen of daytime television...this, I'd like to see. I honestly believe that while Lady O is a positive, and uplifting and in my opinion she is the ultimate businessperson (in building her telecommunications empire her business acqumen(sp?) has surpassed a lot of saavy, shrewd businessmen), she is however, out of touch with most African Americans. Her demographics connect with rich whyte housewives and that is who she nows identifies with...sad but nevertheless, its true.
Her rule of not having rappers on her show is her choice and she really doesn't have to justify that choice...to Luda, 50 or any other rapper for that matter.
What today's rappers need to know is each and every BLACK PERSON in American doesn't have to embrace, love, like or even appreciate the whole hip-hop music/culture. Its fine and okay for a sister (like Oprah...bless her out of touch heart) to dislike rap and hip-hop on the whole. Is 50 now gonna attempt a beef with Bill Mahr or, better yet, Ba-Ba Wa-Wa and The View. Are they gonna be taking the same stance with Conan O'Brien or include a line or two about Jay Leno in their next rap record?
Some hip-hop music is demeaning and mysogynistic and when somebody takes a stand, as Oprah has, Luda and 50 - don't get mad, or strike up a beef like you always do - do something different, clean up your lyrics.

I see both of their points of view on the issue of the N-word.
My problem with Oprah is, typical of the media, she often suppresses the opinions that don't agree with hers. I prefer to get both sides rather than just the "O" opinion and draw my own conclusions.

I just hate it when Oprah brings a guest on and then over talks them and squashes their opinion as if it's not as important as hers. She seems to have trouble agreeing to disagree. Why bring them on the show at all if you're not going to allow them to be heard?

Comment: ladybyrd had it right: Anyone who saw that show can agree that Ludacris, Don Cheadle and Terrence Howard all copped to using the n***a word with their black and white friends, and their answers were stupid. When you look at an intelligent film like 'Crash' and then hear these actors sounding like home-schooled idiots, yeah, it's going to make them look bad. Too bad! They could have been articulate. For anyone on this board who lives in L.A. and works in the business, you know there aren't many of us. Saying you and your white friends have fun calling each other ni***as is stupid and wouldn't play anywhere else in the country. Maybe the Ludas of the world feel their money puts them above it, but Luda shouldn't be salty that he couldn't defend his own shyt. That's all I'm saying. He's only 5'4 and supposedly intelligent. Maybe next time he'll be more prepared; otherwise don't go on an internationally syndicated show.

Well as long as you believe that then you're right, it does hurt you and those who choose to let it and let themselves be enslaved by an oppressors ignorant mentality.
