Comment: Sorry I missed O's show...I was watching 24...but I just gotta share this story from the Baltimore Sun: A heckler found that out the hard way after shouting at the actor-comedian last week
during a forum at the University of the District of Columbia,
the latest of about 20 cities to host a free "Call Out with Bill Cosby" symposium
for black parents and community leaders.
The heckler, whom news reports called "a self-described community activist,"
started shouting from the audience. He derided Mr. Cosby's "watered-down dialogue"
and demanded answers to Michael Eric Dyson's highly publicized book, Is Bill Cosby Right?
Or Has the Black Middle Class Lost Its Mind?
That's when Mr. Cosby lost his cool. The 68-year-old former college athlete jumped off the stage,
wireless microphone in hand, and raced up the aisle to loom over his somewhat astonished questioner.
"I'm sick of you and your Dyson," Mr. Cosby declared. "Dyson is not a truthful man."..I'm not making this sh1t up...I almost died laffing when I read it...

Comment: Boot I would have been pizzed too if some azzwipe was yelling shyt up from the audience. If he had a point to make he should have made it - you don't throw shyt at folk and think you're going to get a rational answer. I'm sure BC would have responded differently if the situation were presented differently but if you think about it why should he have to answer to questions about what Dyson has written? I believe that forum was to kick start the community into action, not an 'explain this riddle for me' forum.

Comment: I didn't plan on watching Oprah's Legends Ball but was glad I did. She let the younguns know that in a few years the generation after them would be honoring them just like this and that poem by Pearl Cleage 'I Say Your Name' should have been heard by everybody. It was good that Coretta was able to see that, to be there. Lest I not forget Shirley Caesar tearing it up and it was rounded out by Ms. Patti who had there been a roof would have surely ripped it off! I hope they rerun it.

Comment: MCNASTY>i know that's right. they got to put it back on so everybody can see the beauty of it all. if you go into Oprah's website and click on the Legends, you will see all who was there and there is a very nice presentation of the legends she set up on her website. make sure your volume is working. but it was fabulous.

Comment: This was truly one classy affair and to see a room full of cinnamon, cocoa, dark chocolate and milk chocolate beauties made my heart proud. I am soooooooooo glad I know my history and am glad Oprah honored such wonderful women. Elizabeth Catlett's work is phenomenal and I am glad people who have never heard of her, now have an opportunity to learn more. Now, this is how I like to see my people reflected on television :-)

Comment: EUR is a website not a newspaper, but why are they always a day late on a story???? In any event, as stated yesterday, I loved the show and cried as well. That poem was phenomenal--think about the legends there that went through so much isht having to go through the back of the clubs etc. to perform and didn't make the millions that those today (sometimes with half the talent) are making and just to receive the acknowledgement from those folks of having their names spoken in recognition of what they went through and accomplished. No wonder they were all crying as well. I never buy dvd's, but this is a must have as well as a great gift idea as someone else has said. ***********
As for Boot and Dr. Cosby you will never starve for material--you have me cracking up!

I agree with you. Not only are they a day late with the Legends story, but regarding the BET Sunday talk show "Meet the Faith" the Oprah interview aired in Roch. NY two weeks ago at which time Oprah stated the reason she was doing an interview with BET now and had never agreed before is because now she feels the need to let people of color know that now is the time to give those folks that paved the way for us the recognition the deserve. Also The Color Purple is excellent!!!

Comment: Beyonce was invited and had a prior commitment; I'm not sure about Vivica and Vanessa. Vivica didn't need to be there, but Vanessa should have been included. I'm hoping it didn't have anything to do with her "fall from grace" per se...

Comment: EUR is not late. The LB was aired on Monday, folks posted their delight in the program yesterday in the Free for All, Tuesday the ratings were published, and EUR publishes them Wednesday which is today. What's the problem here?

Comment: StopBeingIgnant>>>I'm not sure why you are being defensive of EUR. My point is that as an internet site, they can be very responsive much like tv shows that report the night before events the next day. They could do an article on the show on Tuesday and reported the numbers today. That ought not to be too hard for a web site.

Comment: I rarely drink coffee, but thanks for your concern Gurlfrand! I'm glad Whitney wasn't there...GOOD LAWD! Can you imagine -- she would've showed up WITH AN ATTITUDE, wig all crooked wearing a ratty fuh coat and rocking big tacky sunglasses, like we can't tell you're blowed! And during the gospel medley, she would've FUKKED IT UP sounding like a chain-smoking alley cat. And guess who she would pass the mic to? Her slack-mouthed husband Bobby Blue Lips.

Comment: Victomator, I think the invitee list had the potential to be massive so it was inevitable that some names would be omitted but Vanessa was working in Miami on that tired little show of hers that didn't even last a full season so she may have not been able to attend

After reading the comments today, I feel a "lil' left out" so I need to get caught up!! >>>>>AquaBoogie>> the Whitney comments are too funny!! I hope Whitney gets it together soon, I really do!

Comment: Oprah invited those she thought should be honored; Victornator you are a day late and a dollar short. Not only is Althea Gibson dead but in her later years she would not have attended that ball had they gone to her house, dressed her and put her in a limo. She became extremely reclusive.

Comment: YOU'ALL: how many of you [and I know you're out there] remeber when 'we' watched TV and wondered why 'we' didn't see ourselves? When 'Julia' aired 'we' crowded our landlord's living room and watched in awe!! Also, I recall viewing the Miss America pageants and wondered how long it would be before 'we' would be represented. Then one of our pageants was the Miss Sepia pageant. Jet magazine would feature the winner. I watched the Legend's Ball with my youngest daughter who is eight years old. Africana on television is not new to her, but I had to school her on the fact that the event was historical in many ways. If you were born before 1960 you know what I'm talking about. The signing of the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 was during many of our lives: only 42 years ago. We have a long way to go, and look how far we've come! Respectfully.

Comment: I thought this was going to be an elitist Oprah showing off her wealth but I was mistaken and glad I watched. Truly was amazing; truly amazing; I'm hoping it will come out on DVD because this is something I can look at over and over again. Did anyone see the Black lady that was just recently on Deal or No Deal; she turned down that money and ended up with $50.00 or less? I felt her pain!!!

Comment: PEACHES4U>right on my sista! right on! i am a baby of the 1960s and i too remember those days. Truly, the Legends Ball was a historic event and i tell you what would be nice cause it can be like an heirloom for mothers to pass on to their childern and on and on: Make a DVD of the event and also have a beautiful poster made with the picture, the poem "I SAY YOUR NAME" and signatures of all the legends and youngins who attended! that would be a beautiful keepsake and the poster be framed. and the proceeds of the sales go to Oprahs various charities.what do yall think?

Comment: bigchassie, you are dead on about that being an heirloom. I too am waiting for the announcement of the entire package from the photo, to the poem and the full DVD to go on sale. It was awesome, truly inspiring and one the most moving and emotional events I've ever witnessed. Like plenty have said...it was about time and long overdue. Bless Oprah!!!
