Comment: I can't wait to see this movie!

Comment: Star..I cosign....this is gonna be really good...It's about time somebody sheds some light on the diamond trade...

Name: thelildiva4u
Comment: I also cosign....also saw a great movie last week through my netflix...don't know how I came across it, but it is staring Nicolas Cage and it's called Lord of War. It's about an arms dealer and it touches on the use of conflict diamonds used to support civil wars.

Name: Thunny
Comment: This might heighten awareness but surely I don't expect this to have an effect on how the wealthy buy and flaunt their diamonds. This won't slow down business for Paul Wall or Jacob the Jeweler.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: But light does need to be shed on this. They have been raping Africa for centuries for these diamonds. It is indeed "blood diamonds." And the sad thing about it is those are our diamonds in our homeland and we have no say so or control over it.

Comment: Co-sign Mothership, regardless of the supposed measures that are put in place-that is the saddest part of it all.

Comment: mothership you took the words right out of my mouth. i recently began watching this documentary on the sundance channel, but had to go to work and couldn't see the entire doc. anyway i missed the very beginning of this doc, but i came in as the narrator was talking about this region in AFRICA where this particular company (that's part of what i missed, the company's name)has a 24/7 operation off-shore on some raggedy ship mining diamonds. this company basically owns a part of the ocean, (these muthaf**kers are truly insane, but not stupid). this area is strictly patrolled and no one w/o the proper authorization can even be in that area. the crew was a diverse group of men from all over the world. (although two of the "heavies" were from south africa and israel; hhhmmmmm) the AFRICANS on the ship were treated like slaves. the people in charge were of course white, and their demeanor was belittling. it is imperative we continue the struggle i believe malcolm x was killed for, (black muslim angle not totally true), that being the alliance of all AFRICAN people (those conscious even, or care enough, or not trying to be like their oppressor) wherever we exist in the world. the powers-to-be people know what our power would be like. ok, ok, ok, for the nine hundred and eleventh time, our government is responsible for 9/11. and if you think that was bad, wait until you see what they're cooking up next. and the hits just keep on coming!! 1love.

Comment: In this world, money takes precedence over morals every time. It'll be interesting to see how this movie fares in Hollywood. Especially the premier - I'd love to see what celebs wear what type of jewelry to it.

Name: McNasty
Comment: This movie might shed light on this situation but too many white folks and rappers depend too heavily on the diamond industry and money is indeed the overlying factor. I wonder if this movie will touch on the fact that bushit is reluctant to help the nations of africa that are experiencing civil wars because amerikkka where the bushit's and their friends are invested would lose money. Amerikkka's assistance would have to include directly addressing the diamond trade and companies like Mervyn's and DeBeers might just have to get their white butts out of africa!

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Thun, and that's why everything is going to hell in a handbasket. The time is rapidly approaching when it's going to blow up in their faces.

Name: MzTee
Comment: Now this is something worth seeing...Teach on Mothership because the truth does need to be told. Awareness is key to changing behavior and attitudes. Every little bit helps and I applaud the filmmakers for bringing this to light.

Name: beegirl
Comment: What hurts me most about hip-hop's whole allegiance to diamonds is that no one cares/minds/knows that it's black people struggling and dying in Africa for the stupid diamonds in their grills. And then poorer black people here are doing any and everything to keep up with the Joneses, perpetuating the strife in Africa. I know that other races rock diamonds too (and they are mainly the evil bastards profiting from it), but it just hurts me when I see our own people being callous toward Africa too.

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: This is definitely a "must-see" for me. I own diamonds and I cannot really be sure if they are "blood" diamonds or not. But I'll still wear them. If I do acquire more diamonds I will take the time to make sure they can be traced back to legitimate sources.

Name: Thunny
Comment: Why wear them at all? What the purpose? I have often wondered what is the real reason for people to wear diamonds. Is it just all for show or to emphasize status? I can't stand seeing all these young dudes in NYC who get the fake ice from Canal Street and the back of The Source magazine.

Name: Priceless
Comment: Thunny, diamonds are a precious stone like rubies, emaralds and saphires .... the fact that these evil people exploited some poor brown people is horrible but it will never make me not appreciate precious stones .... I rock diamonds daily because I love them

Name: Thunny
Comment: Hey Priceless, I know different strokes for different folks, but diamonds and other precious stones just seem like a stutus symbol to me. But then again I'm a guy. BUT, then again all these rapper dudes are guys and they go crazy over diamonds too. Whatever happened to diamonds being a girl's best friend? I think it's borderline gay for dudes to wear so much jewelry. People don't even blink twice anymore when rappers talk about being the Black Liberace because of all their diamonds and rings - but wasn't Liberace gay? I'm getting off the subject though...

Comment: >Thunny, I am going to wear my diamond wedding ring and band for as long as I am married. I am also going to wear my tasteful diamond stud earrings for formal occassions or whenever I want to. These items are already bought, so me not wearing them won't change anything. Now, if I decide to get more diamonds, I will do my part to make sure they are not blood diamonds. As for why wear diamonds in general, I can only speak for myself. I wear mine not to impress anyone, but because I want to. I see nothing wrong with wearing diamonds or any jewelry in good taste. It's when people go overboard (gold and diamonds in their teeth, etc..) that it becomes garish and silly.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Thun, I don't understand why folk wear diamonds as well. To me, you look at 'em, they shine and that's about it. You get bored with it after awhile.

Name: McNasty
Comment: I've earned the right to wear my diamond wedding ring and don't have a problem with it. The diamonds I rock came from Geneva!

Name: Thunny
Comment: I'm not passing judgment, just curious as to what the allure is. I'm already resigned to the fact that when I ultimately propose she will never say yes without a diamond ring. Of course some women might say they don't care about a diamond engagement ring but in the back of her mid she will never forget what a cheap nicca it took to propose without a diamond ring. And that is where material loves takes over for pure love.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Thunny diamonds were meant to express love when you give them to your significant other, they are a precious stone and for the natives of sierre leone and the diamond coast of africa, they are their very lives. You don't have to get a diamond for whomever you're planning to get on one knee for. I had a co worker that actually told her husband she didn't want any diamonds for her wedding ring because of the situation in africa and he got a white topaz stone that looks like the real thing and they designed the band and it was beautiful because it was not the usual ring of gold.

Name: i_thought
Comment: I thought people were misinformed about Diamonds. From reading some of these posts I thought right. Look, I'm glad this movie is being made but some of ya'll are still "brainwashed" by global corporations and their diamond agenda. Closet girl as of right now there is NO GUARANTEED WAY TO FIND WHERE YOUR DIAMONDS ARE FROM! It's a modern day shell game using 3rd & fourth party countries and false documentation. And what's about them being precious? NOPE! Not at all. One company owns 80% of all diamonds in the world and they will not release info on how many diamonds are in circulation, being warehoused or potentially mined. In recent history large dimaond mines have been found in Australia, Russia, and even Canada. Rare now? Estimates are that the average raw diamond costs only $20 per carat and only a few more bucks to polish. Ever wonder why De'beers has commercial in the States but doesn't have any storefronts? because they could be sued for running the worlds largest monopoly. Also in the history of Europe, jewels were always used as a visual sign to seperate the classes. And the whole engagement ring stuff didn't consists of Diamonds until De'beers started marketing that way in the early century. Up until then it was always a precious stone or a combo of loved ones or parents birth stones. Don't confuse bling for gettinmg pimped.

Name: sweetpea
Comment: I have been aware of this situation for years. I pray that everyone does their homework before purchasing diamonds from now on. Me personally, I could not enjoy the bling unless I know that the diamonds I purchase are "conflict free". I can't wait to see this movie and I hope it shows how our government is involved in funding that war.
