Comment: While I applaud Ali on his launch, why make the magazine name "21st Century Hustle"? Why not "21st Century Success", or something similar to that? Why not work to help Black people change our global image? As it stands, we are seen in this country, and out, as pimps, pushers, hustlers, bums, thugs, etc... Oh I know there'll be some folks who'll say, "who cares what other people think," unfortunately we all should care. Those "other people" decide if you go a job or not; or if you get financing for your home or not; or if you get admitted into the college or not; or if your kid gets admitted into the school of choice or not; etc... We live in a diverse world, and we need to operate with a diverse sense of reality. The word "hustle" has so many negative connotations, I wish he had chosen to call his venture something more apropos.

Comment: Hustle is a relative term. I don't see that word carrying negative connotations at all. Life is a hustle, plain and simple. It's what you make of that hustle. For many of us here our job is our hustle. The term has a wide range of connotations.

Comment: Thank you, Thunny!

Comment: Back in the day when a man or woman had a hustle that usually meant that they were slanging merchandise for themselves. You know, working for a living. It's negative connotation came from what we allowed in the rap/hip hop community and it's time we started taking our words back. What I do question is another rag sheet - aren't there too many already?!

Comment: You know "Thunny" and "Mothership", hustle didn't initially mean working hard, or the daily grind. Of like many other words, the Black community has created its own definition - the same applies to the words, "pimp," "player," "hoe," "partner," and of course the infamous "n.i.g.g.a.". We continue to use derogatory words for our own benefit, then we expect other folks to understand what we're talking about. And "McNasty," you're right -- there are too many.

Comment: Brandon, I agree with what you're saying except I think you may be limiting the word's connotaions. If you recoginze one connotation you should equally recognize the others. That's all I'm saying.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Same here. There are many words in the dictionary that have different connotations for the same word. The ethymology of the word has many offshoots. Besides, some of those same words from the most creative people on the planet has found it's way in various dictionaries.

Comment: brandon, you're right. the mag should be called "21st century".
