Comment: Maybe rappers would learn to stop promoting white brands. I guess they got tired of seeing thier product poured all over girls. I know people will say it is race, but would you really want them promoting your exclusive product? He didn't say jack when those white people didn't want him to move into that apt. building, but bought it anyway. If somebody does not want people pooring their product on women its racist? I don't think so. What has the world come to when somebobdy says it racist because they won't but$900 bottle of Cristal? Whatever! I guess black people should boycott, oh wait 99% of don't drink it anyhow. Everytime some one does not like what rappers do that call it racism. It's black childern being uneducated and we are suppose to care about an "elitist beverage" I don't think so. Won't Jay boycott the words Nig*as, B*tches and Hoes and I support that. Anyway rappers are not the only ones who buy, so does the rest of the world

Comment: I agree with Jay-z though I do not call what Rouzaud said racist. I commend Jay because its about time these rappers use their influence to promote social action, even if its against a company who looks down their nose at the hip hop world. Why should we/Jay continue to support their product, and let them make thousands if not millions off of you, when they think little of you? I applaud his efforts.

Comment: It is fucc-ing racist and he brought the apartment in spite of what those crackers felt.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Thank you Jay-Z for not shrugging off blanant disrespect. I don't believe it was racist, but he made it clear that he doesn't want hip hop's business and I'm glad you called his bluff.

Name: GodsChild
Comment: I don't even know where to start. But perhaps this is the epiphany that Hip Hop and those that embrace it need. Stop soliciting and embracing things that lead to destruction. Such a blessing, but many will not see it that way. They'll take to the defense like Jay-Z, and not realize that this man is doing us a favor, in more ways than one. No, but what we'll do is find the next path that will lead us closer to destruction.

Comment: I don't consider what Rouzaud said as racist. What I do see is a business man who would like to protect his products branding. I wouldn't/don't want my business associated with ghetto-ness either. As some have mentioned Hiphop has made this company money, however Cristal was around long before they received shout-outs from the hip hop community. If a product wants to be around for a long time, it should be repected for quality rather than quantity. Most of/If any of the hip hop community buys it because they heard someone say it on a song, not because they've recognized it as an outstanding champagne.

Name: ccognac
Comment: Exactly B00TANEB00TUS Those comments were elitist, not racist. It is everything to do with not being associated with ghetto-ness.

Comment: Whether it hurts cristal's pockets or not you gotta be a step-n-fetchit type negro to keep supporting a company that doesn't want your business-simply because your black. We all know who he means when he says "hip hop community"--Why line someone's pockets who doesn;t respect you. So big up to Jigga for not being a %*$!(, and being a man.

Name: oldsoul
Comment: Thank you Hov! It's about time...and while we're at it, can we boycott Courvousier (sp), Hennessy, TImberland, Nike, Polo, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, McDonalds, Burger King, Mercedes-Benz...wait a minute, hold-up, I was day-dreaming. Ok, well, Cristal is a good start.

Name: pappaswifey
Comment: Hey Jigga, boycott the degradation of our beautiful sista's. Just like a "jigga". Let's keep our women bucket naked, don't drink the Cris instead let's make the seller's of Dom rich (as we stay numbed). But whatever you do we gotta keep those naked rump shakers. Sad Sad Sad.

Comment: Bertie - Don't put words in the man's mouth. There are plenty of black folks that think that hip hop is trash these days. Are they racists, too? How many songs can you make about grills, robbing, shooting, selling drugs and misogyny?!? Some folks don't want to be associated with that nonsense. Some folks don't want to know that Dem Franchize Boys love Cristal. They need to create their own champagne. My hiphop collection is very lean due to it's new focus, so I definitely can understand how someone would want to protect their brand.

Name: ss69054
Comment: Time and time again, why are these entertainers promoting products that are not officially marketed to them. We still got some folks dancing like Amos and Andy. I hear everybody sweatin off these name brands on their songs. These people who create these brands don't even do anything for your communities let along don't even care if u existed. Somebody pleaseeeeeeeee wake up!!

Name: PHScott
Comment: You all are still missing the point here. The point is that Black dollars give us POWER as a people. We can control entire economies with our purchasing choices. Trust me on this: Cristal will feel the sting if every Black person chooses to drink another champagne brand. Hip-hop raised the prices of Cristal THROUGH THE ROOF (15 years ago, a bottle of Cristal RETAILED for $80, on par with Dom Perignon ($120) and Perrier-Jouet($100)). Then 'Pac started big-upping it and the price increased, then doubled. The WHOLESALE PRICE is now $150-$200 a bottle. Nobody realized it, but the Black community got the low-end of the vineyard (too stupid to be able to know the difference, I guess) while their upper-echelon clientele got the best examples, as they should. Subtracting the Black dollar from this equation WILL hurt their bottom line, BELIEVE THAT! Let club owners no longer be able to sell Cris at $600-$800 a bottle (and make a $400-$600 per bottle profit) and see what happens. People say we set trends. We'll see if we can really affect economic change like we as Black people did in the 60's. Our parents and grandparents changed the economic policies of several companies, municipalities, and governments, to give you knuckleheadz the opportunity to buy a $600 bottle of champagne...!

Name: ss69054
Comment: I agree with you PHScott with us having spending power but why do we continue to be the consumer and not the lender -- Big difference, that's the point u are missing!!!

Name: Gemami
Comment: PHScott, you make an excellent point... Black dollars have made billionaires out of a lot of folks -- and made some refocus their direction. That's why brands like Tommy Hilfiger are "supporting" the hip hop community -- hip hop has made him very rich. Jay-Z is a smart businessman, has a lot of influence and I believe he could institute an effective boycott that will hurt Cris where it hurt. Next step is for us to promote OUR products -- like what LL did with FUBU -- "big up" clothing, alcohol, etc. by Blacks for Blacks instead of always promoting products by people who do not understand, care about and take advantage of the culture.

Comment: Thanks and God bless you Olivia and pappaswifey for kepping it real! Jay-Z is a talented young man, and oddly kind of cute as well, but, if, he wants to start something good, and something to boycoot, how about trying to stop the hatred of black women in rap songs? How about a day with out using that vile n-word in a song? harping about some bougey, over priced, flat tasting champipple, is too funny to laugh at. Does he really think that the makers of Cristal is going to miss a few "rappers" and thier ghetto fablous fans buying thier overpriced toilet water?

Name: justmythoughts
Comment: And let's not even get started talking about the fact that those "in the know" have been aware that the company has been pushing inferior Cristal over to the States for a while now. Simply because "those people" won't know the difference anyway.

Name: AlwaysaDem
Comment: To Edna Mae - LMAO at "champipple"!!

Name: Lovely
Comment: When we (my girls) go to clubs Cris is normally the beverage of preference. Rappers aren't the only ones who drink Cris. I respect Jay as a businessman and will support his boycott. I know many others like me (and have forwarded the article about Jay). You'd be surprised how many 30-somethings can effect an industry. If we all quit going to the clubs spending our hard earned money on overpriced 'champipple' the producers will have no choice but to take notice. (FYI - when I go out with my 'rich' white friends they drink cheap, economical beer... THEY'RE the ones not buying Cris & Dom P.)

Name: QueenNefertina
Comment: DUH!....Now companies that feel the same way as Cristal will simply make sure their remarks are said in the boardroom and not in the media. If these rappers really want to make a difference, then they will refuse to give free advertisement to any company that does not employ or invest heavily in their communities as well as pay them for it. Reciprocity should be the goal here, not having someone simply appreciate your business, how about someone showing appreciation that really counts--monetary!
