Comment: Lamar Odom's son dies
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles Lakers player Lamar Odom's 6 1/2-month-old son has died, a spokesman for the team said Thursday.
Jayden Odom died Wednesday night, apparently suffocating while sleeping in his crib in New York, according to John Black.
"Lamar is very distraught," Black said. "Both he and the baby's mother are asking that people respect their privacy at this time."
Jayden was born Dec. 15. Odom has two older children - a son and a daughter.
The 26-year-old Odom came to the Lakers two years ago in the trade that sent Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat. Odom averaged 14.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 80 games for the Lakers last season and 19.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists in their first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns.

Comment: SNIPES LINKED TO LAPDANCER
Hollywood star WESLEY SNIPES has reportedly fallen for a Welsh lapdancer while preparing for his latest movie in Britain. The BLADE actor, 43, stars and produces THE SHOOTER, and has been spending time in the Welsh capital scouting locations for the movie. Stripper FRAN MURPHY, 29, met Snipes when he visited her Cardiff workplace, and the star was so taken with the pretty brunette, he phoned the club's bosses for her phone number. THE BLACK EYED PEAS had to flee from their own after-show party in Germany on Wednesday night (28JUN06), after a bloody fight broke out. The band were whisked into the 40seconds nightclub in Berlin after their concert in the German capital. But, as they were relaxing in the VIP lounge, a fight broke out between their bodyguards and the club's security, after a cheeky fan allegedly attempted to photograph the group. One of the group's minders reportedly attacked a club security guard with a bottle and hit him on the head. The fight then escalated and glasses were thrown. Comment: Boy Dies After Disney Roller Coaster Ride
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The father of a 12-year-old boy who died after riding a roller coaster at the Disney-MGM theme park told authorities his son was in good health and did not suffer from any medical conditions.
Byron Russell noticed his son, Michael, became limp while they rode the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster along with his mother and 7-year-old brother Thursday morning.
When the minute-long ride finished, Byron Russell pulled Michael off the ride and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, said Barbara Miller, Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
The boy was pronounced dead after he was taken by ambulance to Celebration Hospital, Disney said in a statement. The cause of death was not immediately determined and medical examiners planned to perform an autopsy Friday.
"According to the family, he was a very healthy child," Miller said. "The father repeated that he was healthy, he had no problems."
A Disney spokesman said the company was assisting the Fort Campbell, Ky., family.
"Our deepest concerns are with the family," said the spokesman, Jacob DiPietre.
The boy's death is the latest in a string of tragedies at Walt Disney World in recent years. At least 15 people have died at Disney's theme parks in Florida and California since 1989, including some with pre-existing health conditions. Disney-MGM is among Disney's four Florida parks.
Most of the company's recent troubles have been over another ride — Epcot's "Mission: Space," a rocketship attraction that simulates a flight to Mars.
Two people have died in the last year after going on the ride, which spins in a centrifuge that subjects riders to twice the normal force of gravity. Now Disney offers people an option to ride a tamer version of the ride that does not spin.
Disney-MGM closed the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster on Thursday but said a preliminary investigation showed the ride was operating normally. The sheriff's office was investigating, and state park safety officials were also notified.
A Disney Web site description of the ride says: "Zoom from 0-60 mph with the force of a supersonic F-14, take in high-speed loops and turns synchronized to a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack."
Theme park consultants said the ride is relatively tame.
"As roller coasters go that is not considered an ultra, ultra high-thrill coaster," said David Speigel, president of Cincinnati-based International Theme Park Services Inc. "It does have some high launch speeds, but it's more along the traditional lines of what roller coasters are today."

Comment: Austin's jail likened to 'good hostel'
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- The jail holding Atlanta music producer Dallas Austin doesn't seem like something out of "Midnight Express" nightmares of the Middle East.
Austin, who is accused of trying to smuggle cocaine for his personal use into Dubai, might have met a kinder fate at Alrashidiya Police Station than the American imprisoned in a Turkish hellhole in that based-on-truth 1978 movie.
"It was like a very good hostel," said Prasad Bidapa, an Indian fashion designer who was held at the Dubai facility for 35 days last year after being arrested for possession of marijuana.
Austin, who was arrested May 19, has been there 41 days, as of Thursday. His trial is scheduled to begin Sunday.
The police station, which stands in front of the prison, is a clean, white concrete building with windows tinted green. Palm trees and neatly shaped bushes decorate the front. A golden banner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Dubai Police hangs down one wall.
Inside, the large, echoing lobby is clean and modern. Officers in green uniforms walk through. There is no shouting or chaos. Everything seems modern and relatively efficient.
Behind the police station can be seen, over the top of a wall, the tops of barracks-like buildings — the prison, which now houses about 300 people.
In an interview last year with The Hindu newspaper of India, Bidapa looked back rather fondly on his stay at Alrashidiya. He said he enjoyed three good meals a day, including a lunch of chicken, mutton, or Australian lamb, along with unlimited salad and white rice. He had afternoon naps; what the paper called "jolly conviviality" with other inmates at dinner; and evenings watching movies or satellite TV with 70 channels. He said he wore earplugs to bed, so as not to be disturbed by other people praying.
A Dubai court reportedly dropped charges against Bidapa and released him after a his wife filed a mercy petition.
"Looking back, it was a calming experience," the fashion designer told the newspaper. "I've come back much stronger and more confident."
It remains to be seen whether Austin will look back so favorably on his stay.
And it remains to be seen how long that stay will be. He faces a possible four-year prison sentence.
Austin, 35, is a leading producer of R&B and hip hop who has made records with TLC, Michael Jackson, Madonna and others. The city of Atlanta hired him last year to create its theme song, "ATL." He also produced the hit movie "Drumline."
On Thursday, Austin's Atlanta attorney, Joel A. Katz, again declined to comment, and efforts to reach his Bahraini attorney were not successful.

Comment: Good Morning Folks,
Here are some blind items for you!!
BLIND ITEM #1: by Sin-Q
Few people know that a black actress is a former street prostitute who turned tricks for a living alongside an infamous black woman. The black actress has been labeled bizarre, irrational and unstable. She and the infamous woman worked a corner populated by well to do johns and creeps in Los Angeles. They had an physical altercation when the infamous woman found out the future actress slept with her favorite john, a married rapper (whom she didn't like to share). Both women are extremely well known in the black community.
BLIND ITEM #2: by Algiers
This black female singer is so full of herself, early on. A few weeks ago, she performed out of the country and proceeded to curse at the audience when they responded weakly to songs they were not familiar with. She said, “What’s wrong with all of you, I know you m*therf**kers ain’t too old to know what I’m singing.” Some people got up and left. This singer also likes to disrespect established black female singers, pretending like she forgets their names when she encounters them at industry events and parties. When other people talk about other female singers in her presence, she rolls her eyes and quickly changes the subject. She has no respect for her fans nor her peers.

Comment: NEW YORK (Reuters) - With more women wearing flip-flops to the office this summer, U.S. style gurus are warning that the casual shoe once mainly seen on the beach could be damaging to careers -- as well as to feet.
Lauren Cardinale, 25, who works at West Glen Communications, wears beaded or other fancy flip flops to the office -- when she can get away with it.
"Occasionally I wear flip flops to work," she said. "I wear nicer shoes if I'm meeting with clients or if I know there will be someone in the office who doesn't approve of flip flops."
Cardinale is one of thousands of young women in New York who consider flip-flops an essential part of their summer wardrobe.
An online survey conducted for retailers Old Navy and Gap found flip-flops topped the list of wardrobe items that college and high school students planned to wear to work this summer.
More than 31 percent of women said flip-flops were the single "must have" item for work this summer.
But many companies disagree.
"The dress code says no beach wear and flip-flops are considered beach wear," said a spokeswoman for BNP Paribas.
Style gurus warn that flip-flops, which are worn mainly by younger women, could be harmful to a career.
"Shoes convey the mood of a woman. Wearing flip-flops conveys the mood that you are relaxed and on vacation. That's not a good message in the office," said Meghan Cleary, a style commentator who wrote the book "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You."
Doctors say it's not just careers they could harm.
Physicians at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons say flip-flops are linked to a growing number of heel problems among teens and young adults.
"We're seeing more heel pain than ever in patients 15 to 25 years old, a group that usually doesn't have this problem," said spokeswoman Marybeth Crane in a recent statement.
She said flip-flops with thin soles have no arch support and can accentuate any abnormal biomechanics in foot motion which eventually brings pain and inflammation.

Comment: $140 FOR FLIP-FLOPS?
Flip-flops are far from new, dating back at least 70 years and believed developed out of traditional Japanese woven or wooden soled sandals in New Zealand.
The basic flat sole with a Y-shaped strap, that passes between the toes and around either side of the foot, is known in every nation and to every social class.
In developing countries, they are the cheapest -- and often only -- form of footwear, easy to make and easy to fit.
The term "flip-flop" derives from the noise they make while slapping against the wearer's heels and the floor but they are also known as thongs in Australia, jandals in New Zealand, and slippers in Hawaii.
But flip-flops took on a new life among the young and trendy a few years ago. They have surged in popularity with shops now selling them in every conceivable color, with sequins, flowers, and even bridal flip-flops with over 300 Swarovski crystals on the straps for about $140 a pair.
Last June the Northwestern University's champion women's lacrosse team was widely criticized for wearing flip-flops when they visited the White House and met President George W. Bush.
Ellen Campuzano, president of the Committee of Color and Trends, a New York-based forecasting service specializing in footwear and accessories, thinks flip-flops' popularity will wane.
"Usually these trends come and go in about five years," she said. "I think we've reached the peak, they can't be any more widespread, so maybe next summer something will replace them."

Comment: NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - People who get tattoos from unlicensed sources are at risk of developing a drug-resistant bacterial skin infection, federal health officials warn.
Six recent outbreaks of infections with this "superbug," methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have been traced to unlicensed tattoo artists, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
MRSA infection typically manifests as abscesses or areas of inflammation on the skin, though it can also lead to more serious problems such as pneumonia, blood infections or, in some cases, necrotizing fasciitis, also referred to as the "flesh-eating disease."
While the bug was once largely confined to hospitals, it is becoming increasingly common in the general public -- showing up among prison inmates, athletic teams and others who are in close contact and may share contaminated items.
The six tattoo-related outbreaks affected 44 people in Kentucky, Ohio and Vermont, the CDC reports in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Thirty-four had recently gotten a tattoo from an unlicensed source, while 10 others contracted the infection from close contact with the tattoo recipients.
Health officials' investigations found that the tattooists in many cases did not follow standard hygiene practices like changing gloves between clients, using skin antiseptic and disinfecting equipment. Three tattooists had recently been in prison, where they could have picked up MRSA. In some cases, the amateur artists used makeshift equipment like guitar strings and computer ink-jet cartridges instead of tattoo dye.
"Persons considering a tattoo should be aware of the potential for community-acquired MRSA infection and should only use the services of a licensed tattooist who follows proper infection-control procedures," the CDC advises.
That means using sterilized or single-use equipment, including needles, tattoo guns and inks.

Comment: BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A pair of pot smokers picked the wrong day to use the drive-thru window at a KFC restaurant in Buffalo. Two men in their 20s pulled up to the restaurant's window and asked for the Wednesday special.
Meanwhile, a couple of narcotics detectives were inside ordering their food. That's when a cloud of marijuana smoke wafted into the restaurant. The detectives then spotted the two men smoking what one of the cops called "the biggest marijuana cigar your ever saw."
The detectives went outside and arrested 23-year-old Charles Morris and 26-year-old Gregory Quick, both of Buffalo. The two men were charged with possession of marijuana and smoking it in public.
One of the cops said he got the cashier to refund the pot smokers' money for the Wednesday special.

Comment: MDhornet:
LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System is a minimally invasive surgery that involves applying a prosthesis (the LAP-BAND) around the stomach—creating a small gastric pouch—and a calibrated opening to the rest of the stomach.
The advantages of LAP-BAND surgery include:
Reduced surgical trauma and pain
Less invasive for the abdominal wall (requires small incisions of 5 to10 millimeters) and for the stomach (no cutting or stapling of the organ is needed)
Shorter hospitalization than standard surgery
Respect of the anatomical and functional integrity of the stomach without by-passing portions of the stomach or intestines
Individualized to the patient's needs via inflation or deflation of the band
Fully reversible by simply removing the band.
How It Works:
By creating a smaller gastric pouch, the LAP-BAND System limits the amount of food that the stomach will hold at any time. The inflatable ring controls the flow of food from this smaller pouch to the rest of the digestive tract. The patient will feel comfortably full with a small amount of food. And because of the slow emptying, the patient will continue to feel full for several hours reducing the urge to eat between meals.

Comment: SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The commander of the Utah Highway Patrol's drunken driving unit has been cited for driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his cruiser into a concrete barrier, authorities said Thursday.
Lt. Fred Swain veered off the shoulder of a highway in Draper early last Friday, overcorrected and hit the barrier that separates the lanes, Lt. Doug McCleve said.
Swain said he fell asleep at the wheel, but officers suspected he had been drinking, said Draper police Sgt. Scott Peck. Swain initially refused to submit to a breathalyzer test until two patrol captains talked to him, Peck said.
The test showed that Swain's blood-alcohol level was nearly 0.12 percent, Peck said. Utah's legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Swain was placed on paid administrative leave while the patrol conducts an internal investigation.
Contacted by KSL-TV on Thursday, Swain said it was not in his best interest to comment.
Draper police investigated the incident. It's common for law enforcement agencies to ask another agency to investigate incidents involving their own personnel. Draper is about 19 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Comment: MDhornet: I believe Star had this type of surgery, because she would've had time to do it, without explaining time away from work.
The Operation:
The idea behind the operation is to create a small pouch in the upper part of the stomach with a controlled and adjustable stoma, without stapling, thus limiting food intake.
A gastric band device is introduced through tiny (1cm) incisions in the abdomen and is placed around the upper part of the stomach. The resulting pouch (or the "new stomach") dramatically reduces the functional capacity of the stomach. The band has a balloon from the inside that is adjustable and can reduce stoma size, thus prolonging the period of fullness.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia and can last between 30 minutes and 1 hour. The Band is fitted around the uppermost part of the stomach, forming a 15cc small pouch. It is designed so that it can be inflated or deflated at any time after the operation. This helps the patient continually lose weight until they reach their goals. The restriction takes place in the radiology suite and normally takes 15 minutes. This simple procedure is painless they inject saline into a port placed under the skin in the wall of the stomach. The tube that comes off of the band leads to the port.
Advantages of gastric banding:
- No cutting of the stomach
- No stapling of the stomach
- Calibrated pouch and stoma size
- Can be adjusted to patient's needs after surgery with no operation to adjust the stoma
- Laparoscopic removal possible
- Fully reversible
- Short hospital stay (does not exceed 48 hours)

Comment: 'Rat Man' Says 'Nature' Overwhelmed Him
PETALUMA, Calif. — It all started four years ago when Roger Dier bought a baby rat to feed his pet Indian python. But when he saw the furry little critter squeaking for its life, the lifelong animal lover said he didn't have the heart to let it become just another snake snack.
"I couldn't stand it," he told The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa. "I took the rat out of the cage and got to know it."
After that, Dier was hooked on the rodents, which he described as gentle, lovable and an endless source of entertainment. He later bought four more at the pet store — but didn't think to spay or neuter them.
Last week, animal control officers discovered more than 1,300 rats in Dier's small one-bedroom Petaluma home, after a neighbor complained about the foul smell. He was cited for misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Dier, 67, said depression, loneliness, denial and a recent bout of flu and bronchitis kept him from maintaining control of the fast-breeding population.
"I did not set out to do this," he told The Press Democrat. "I do acknowledge irresponsibility and there's a case for laziness, denial, incompetence and just plain foolishness."
But "it was not all my fault," he added. "It was this force of nature that overwhelmed me."
The infestation at his home wasn't Dier's first encounter with a rat pack.
In 1963, his Culver City apartment was used as a hideout by two of three men who were later convicted of kidnapping Frank Sinatra Jr., son of the legendary Rat Pack crooner. Dier said he later served two prison terms for an unrelated weapons charge and armed robbery.
"I was just a young kid. I was mixed up," he said.
Dier moved to Petaluma in 1978, working at an %*$embly plant and as a stained glass maker. He now lives off a small inheritance from his mother.
By all appearances, Dier looks like an everyday retiree, donning jeans and an Hawaiian shirt on a warm afternoon and driving a new Toyota Tacoma.
But his house, located in a quiet middle-class neighborhood, reeks of urine. The floor is covered with the chaff of feed mixed with rat droppings, and everything is gnawed on, including the sheetrock walls, according to The Press Democrat.

Comment: When animal control officers arrived, they found some rats stacked six deep in cages so overcrowded that many had missing eyes and limbs.
Dier admitted that he felt some relief when they were confiscated, noting the "crushing burden" of trying to care for them. He was up to buying 250 pounds of rat food a week.
Most of the rats have been euthanized, some because they were too sick or injured and others because they weren't socialized well enough to be adopted, said Nancee Tavares, manager of Petaluma Animal Services.
"We believe quality of life is important, and there was no quality of life for these rats," she said.
Rat lovers have expressed outrage at the euthanizations, but Tavares said the pace of adoptions have gone too slow to expect all the rats to find homes. As of Thursday, only 12 of the rodents had gotten new owners, while different shelters and animal rescue groups promised to take about 30 off the agency's hands.
"We've gotten a lot of people criticizing us, but not offering to take one or two," Tavares said.
Meanwhile, Dier, who was allowed to keep his seven cats, said he was grieving the loss — and deaths — of his furry friends.
"That's a darn pity," Dier said. "It's unfair to the animals. I'm not saying I wasn't unfair letting them be born into existence, but they didn't deserve to die

I firmly believe that you should be done up from head to toe for any special occasion. Why can they wear a way over done dress to school one day, but throw on jeans when it's time to go to church? (not in my house). I did concede to my daugher wearing a very dressy pants suit to church after I saw Sister Edna and 'nem (the church mothers) start wearing them. I on the other hand still wear dresses to anything that goes on in a church other than a fish fry.

Comment: StormyMonday ...I sympathize with your daughter. I know well about having to wear ugly shoes because finding shoes that fit and were age appropriate was difficult. I wear a size 8 or 8 1/2 which is fine now, but since my feet got to this size back around 3rd grade or so, it was rough. As a result, I've always been sensitive about my feet, even though they are not abnormally large for an adult. Ahh the traumas of childhood.

Comment: I don't care for "dressing down" for Sunday, because people have taken that mess to the extreme. If you have to dress up to get in the club, why is it so hard to dress up for church? That's part of our heritage, I believe, well especially in the south. Back in the day, you dressed up just to go into town. We/black folk use to take pride in how we looked when we presented ourselves to the world. But, it's a shame when you go to church and the usher's and church mother's come and put that white sheet on a girl or grown woman's lap! The look on their faces, you can just tell that they're cussing in their mind about the situation, lol!

Comment: It took me years to get over being self conscious about me feet even when there was no longer a reason. It took me years to finally stop looking at ugly shoes as a first option. LOL A black girl child and shoes set a pattern for life, good or bad. My daughter is 17, 5'10 and wears a size 10 and she loves shoes. She's loved shoes since she was a toddler and would only wear pink and white saddle shoes for about six months straight. At times when she was younger I had to go to extremes to find her stylish, age appropriate shoes (feet seem to grow fastest, first), but I was determined she wasn't go to have a foot phobia like me. I've succeeded all too well!!!!!!

Comment: Jones' star fading, pros warn
BY JANE RIDLEY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Friday, June 30th, 2006
Star Jones Reynolds' performance on "Larry King Live" failed to impress media chiefs.
Many believed she should have used the opportunity to announce a major new career move. Time is running out if she wants to maintain her high profile on TV. Experts claim the former co-host of "The View" otherwise faces career suicide.
Speaking to King, Jones Reynolds again criticized ABC and the program's creator, Barbara Walters, for insensitively handling her departure.
"I wouldn't be honest if I didn't tell you I was hurt," she said.
Asked to finally set the record straight on whether her recent 150-pound weight loss was partly due to surgery, she would only say, "Because of my health ... I needed a full-scale medical intervention, and my doctors had to step in to save my life."
The former lawyer-turned-TV-star said she would "work on my new television projects and roll my sleeves up and get right back into working on child advocacy."
She said she was planning her own TV show, but did not expand.
"She needs to announce something relatively soon," said Bill Carroll, director of programming at Katz Television Group. "Our collective memory goes by in a heartbeat."
Referring to the one-time golden girl of "Good Morning America" - now rarely on screen - he warned, "All of a sudden, you're Joan Lunden."
A major factor is the upcoming July 4 holiday because people quickly switch into vacation mode and lose interest.
Even hard-core Jones Reynolds fans - she has received more than 1,500 supportive e-mails since leaving "The View" - may fall by the wayside as the publicity fades.
Shari Anne Brill, director of programming at Carat USA, said Jones Reynolds' 15 minutes of fame could be over after she unexpectedly announced her departure during a live broadcast.
"If she didn't have something in the works, that would be an extremely bad career move," explained Brill. "You don't diss your boss. That's a serious bridge to burn."
Especially when your boss is TV legend Walters.
One insider said Reynolds Jones is widely regarded as "unemployable" because of her reputation as a diva.
"Are people going to want to buy the trouble?" he said. "I don't think so.
"She has won some of the audience with her wounded doe act, but in a year's time they won't even remember who she is."
Another TV source shared doubts about the 44-year-old's future.
"Star has meetings scheduled on both coasts with possible employers," she said. "The blast of publicity over her firing will produce a lot of offers - or none at all.
"Some TV executives might be concerned that Star is not a team player."
Jones Reynolds was scheduled to hawk her case once again on the "Today" show this morning.

Comment: African queen of jazz
By GENE SANTORO
DAILY NEWS WRITER
Friday, June 30th, 2006
Angélique Kidjo's powerful, fervent voice is one reason the three-time Grammy nominee is the first African woman since Miriam Makeba to become a global star.
Her blues, funk and jazzy flights make the Benin native's songs feel like home, wherever you are.
Tomorrow night, as part of the Celebrate Brooklyn series in Prospect Park, Kidjo will stage a kind of homecoming by singing in Fon (her native tongue) and English, for African expats and American fans alike.
"Music is the rainbow of humanity," says the eight-year Park Slope resident. "It expresses the differences between people, like their languages, and yet finds ways to speak directly to different souls."
Born in 1960, Kidjo grew up in a harbor town in what was then Dahomey. Her mother was a theater director and choreographer, her father an amateur musician. She began dancing with her mother's troupe at age 6. By age 9, she was the troupe's star.
When she was 11, Kidjo first heard James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding and Motown and fell in love with their music - and with English. "I used to blast their records and sing my version of the words. My poor parents," she says, laughing.
Within two years, she was singing onstage with her brothers' band. In the 1980s she studied in Paris, became an Afro-jazz singer and opened tours for both Makeba and Nina Simone. Soon she was recording with top musicians from around the globe like Manu Dibango, Carlos Santana and C%*$andra Wilson.

Comment: Nicolas Cage Gives $2M for Child Soldiers
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Nicolas Cage has donated $2 million to help former child soldiers worldwide. The donation by the Oscar-winning actor will help provide shelters and medical and psychological rehabilitation services, said Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA.
Cox accepted the donation Wednesday at a United Nations Conference in New York. Amnesty International will administer the funds.
"I understand that this pledge is not a solution for the problem," Cage, 42, said when he announced the contribution by video.
"It's my hopeful wish that today's discussions on this tragic subject at the United Nations conference may bring us closer to eradicating the nightmare of child soldiers."
Cage said he has worked with Amnesty International for more than two years.
The United Nations estimates there are at least 300,000 child soldiers participating in armed conflicts in the world today.

Comment: YLawdY, they use those white sheets to cover you up 'cause your skirt or dress is way too short and more than likely the person is sitting there with her legs wide open. Ain't no need of tempting the Pastor and anyone else sitting in the pulpit or choice stand. I remember one woman used to "shout" up and down the aisle, then go up to the front to pass out and ALWAYS her legs would magically fly open......I personally think she was advertising in the name of the Lawd, lol! Finally the ushers got tired of playing her game, so when she got started they would form a ring around her with the white sheets, so she could spread her butterfly as wide as she wanted without the congregation having to witness that mess! Country back woods Baptist, SMH.....and no offense to any southern Baptist.

Even when I'm dressed up, I'm still very simple. I like simple clothes in general. I will rock some jeans in church and not pause to think about it. I have a been-there-done-that-never-again attitude about the church suits. Will never catch me in any big church hats. I dress for church the way I dress for my regular life. I've gotten the looks when I wore pants to some ultra-conservative church. I'll walk in with my head high and sit down or stand up without a care in the world.

Diddy is finally going to make Kim an honest woman. Or at least that's what the latest rounds of rumors say.
Word is that Diddy proposed to Kim recently and she accepted. If this is true I feel happy for the girl. It seems like they are married already because they've been together for a while. After seeing her and all of those damn kids at the BET Awards, I couldn't do anything but shake my head.

Things have been a little slow on the Nippy frontier this week. Like many of you I wanted her to come out during the tribute to Chaka Kahn at the BET Awards Tuesday but of course she didn't. So I guess we will have to settle for a little vintage Nippy.
This YouTube clip is of a 1986 Coke commercial featuring Nippy and a few other familiar faces. Dallas Penn thinks that Whitney's current love of coke is all Coke's fault.
The signs were all there 20 twenty years ago, but now it's obvious that Coca-Cola is responsible for NIPPY's drug addiction. C'mon people?!? The 'COKE IS IT!' slogan. Her move to Atlanta, GA, the corporate H.Q. for Coca-Cola.

Comment: I wouldn't say covering a grown woman's legs with a sheet is appropriate... but the job of deacons and deaconesses is to bring a manner of decorum to the church environment. So pulling someone aside is a better option. People need to leave the hootchified and casual stuff at home unless they go to a church that conforms to those notions. I'm old fashioned when it comes to church, and yes, I'm a southern baptist. I think people should dress up when they come to work to show respect for their position and I think that people should dress up when they go to church to show respect for God's house. Dressing up for church made church an event and it also taught me that part of being an adult is dressing and acting appropriate for where you are. Whenever I see the older women in the church with the bright suits and big hats it reminds me of the rich tradition we have in this country. It makes me feel comforted in a way.

Comment: MWM< I have black, power grey, and brown fishnets...i have a red body suit fishnet that men seem to like. I don't wear that one to church though. Mdhornet< to me, that's a symptom of going to the wrong church. I like a pastor that quotes Tupac or brings the bible situations home using real life examples. My pastor has me CRACKING UP! But I dont expect perfection from him or the people in the congregation so if they gossip I don't mind, I do it too! One thing some people don't like is that my pastor lives on my street so he knows all the gossip, so sometimes he'll preach about situations in the community without saying names. But everybody knows who hes talking about, its' like his own version of 'blind items' lol! YlawdY< The Building fund is for all the things that happen to the building. If pipes burst, if it needs a new roof, carpet, chairs etc etc. Having a church is like owning a house it requires upkeep. If your church board is not corrupt you will notice improvements to your church each year. As far as the "god said" line, that is the pastor's interpretation of the verse and if you don't agree with him on a consistent basis you should find another church. One thing I can't agree with is the skyrocketing salaries of these pastors. That is pure blasphemy.

Comment: IJA, I hear ya. For me though, the nonsense that seems to come with every church just got to be too much. I go to church to be edified and uplifted and to hopefully do the same for someone else. I don't want to sit for 30 mins waiting for the offering to be collected (an hour if you're at a country church), I don't want to spend another 25 mins reading announcements that 99% of the church folk can read themeslves. I don't want to spend 5 minutes walking around and shaking a bunch of hands of folks I don't know and have no plans to spend time with. All of that stuff can be done outside of the service. Give me the praise and worship, the sermon and the call to Christ in whichever order the Pastor is led to do them. Those are essential. Those are neccessary. The other stuff is important, but can be done at other times. If folk are committed to their church, they'll make sure they get their offerings and tithes in, they'll read the announcements when they get home. I just got tired of all of it. My own personal thing though.

Comment: UNDER HEADING: LIKE THAT'S REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN: Bin Laden wants Zarqawi buried in homeland By LEE KEATH, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 9 minutes ago
Osama bin Laden called on President Bush in an audiotape released Friday to release the body of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and said Jordan should allow the slain terrorist to be buried in his homeland.
In the 19-minute message, bin Laden paid tribute to al-Zarqawi and said the former al-Qaida in Iraq leader had been under orders to kill Iraqis who supported U.S. forces in the country. He also vowed more attacks against the United States in the Middle East and Africa.
"We will continue to fight you and your allies everywhere, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Sudan to run down your resources and kill your men until you return defeated to your nation," he said, addressing Bush. His voice sounded breathy and fatigued at times.
It was the fourth audio message purportedly put out this year by bin Laden. The voice in the latest message — released on an Islamic Web forum where militants often post messages — resembled that on previous recordings attributed to bin Laden, but the authenticity of the tape could not be immediately confirmed.

Then they act like they just sounded like Love Fellowship or some other choir, and the then some nut will get up and say "Didn't they sang this morning chu'ch"! At that point I have to ask God to forgive me 'cause I want to say so bad...."hell nah thay didn't sang, they did something but it wasn't sanging!" This messes up the ENTIRE church service if you ask me. Good music makes church, preaching and everything in between "easy".

Comment: Hey Y'all!! I like the Rhiana video, but I don't particularly like the song. I don't think she is a young Beyonce in training. Since Beyonce is such a huge star, people are always comparing others to her but I think Rhiana has her own thing going on.
So have any of you heard of the Diary of a Tired Black Man - you can go here to watch a clip of the movie - http://www.tiredblackman.com/. I don't know....to me, the man in the clip is not typical of the black men we seem to have a problem with. I understand that some black women are angry, because I know a few who are angry at EVERY man, but not without reason! I don't know....let me know what you all think!

Comment: Sigmascribe - I looked at the clip thinking, WTF?? I can understand his part a little, but I don't think that is the real issue at hand. How many men are doing all that and still being tripped on? I am married now, but when I was dating and "angry", it was because they were not doing the right thing, cheating, not pulling thier weight around the house, stuff like that! I don't care if a black man dates a white woman, it is SOOO common in Seattle. But I don't like when they say they date white women because black women are ALL angry, or ALL something. I think it is a cop out!
|

Comment: MDhornet - See, I kind of feel his situation because he was being a man, handling his own and he did lay out her AND her homegirls!! But do you think that is typically why black men date white women? And is it fair when the black man is NOT doing the right thing and a woman gets angry, then he floats to a white girl because black women are too angry? That is the part I disagree with! The dude in the movie, his ex wife was a trip, but in general, I just dont think it goes down like that!

Comment: Twizted< somebody sent me that video and I didn't like it. But, the maker of that film can put whatever spin on it she wants. I don't think any black man floats to white women b/c we are angry, they do it for their own personal reasons. A real man likes a little fire.
|

Comment: Twitzed, I didn't get that he was saying that's why he was dating the white girl. I think he just got angry because these young women were sitting there bashing him for being weak when he hadn't done anything to earn their scorn.

Comment: ImJustAsking - I hear ya! I think it is more of a personal reason too but they use the whole angry thing as an excuse because I agree, a real man likes a little fire! And let me tell you something else I peep out, most of the black guys I know who are in a relationship with a white girl, has a black girl or 3 he is kicking it with on the side. In Seattle, you will see the black guy driving the white girls car, staying at her house and all that but while she is at home, he has a sister rolling with him in HER CAR. I worked with this dude who seemed soo loyal to his white girlfriend, always talked about her at work (law firms!) but then I caught him with his ex who is a black girl. When I asked him about it, he just said the white girl offered him security and when he was dating the black girl, she would not have him not working, not coming home and all that. The white girl would complain, but a little talk would cool that out..So...to each it's own, I just don't like the stereotype that it puts out there!

Comment: Tommystrong, ooooohh you need to stop it!! And to any woman who would buy Prada shoes over diapers, pleease!
Sigma - I would have LOVED to see the white girl go pick up his daughter! LMAO! I know if my husband and I seperate and ANY broad, black, white pink or orange comes to the door for my daughter while he is in the car, ooooohhhhh.....STOP IT....that would not be pretty!! Only way that would be cool is if they have been together for a LONG time AND her and I had a cool relationship. It is kind of disrespectful and even more than that, unnecessary!!

Comment: IJA, I'm a conservative, black, college student, with two children and I also to quote you; "believes in all those sexist intepretations in the bible of a woman's role in a marriage". I believe if we, as people of color where a little more selective, and disciplined in our sex lives -- AIDS wouldn't be destroying our community. I believe Darryl James (an EUR columnist) mentioned something about the femi_Nazi's adding to the "distorted vision" - my own words of women today.... a good read ;-)
