Comment: Number one on what charts?? I've yet to hear any of her songs get any airplay and since when do you go number one with just a lil over 100,000 cds sold in the first week...India's people try to hard...way too hard...

Comment: They don't play her music on the hip hop stations, just on the adult contemporary stations - at least here in my area. Actually, I first heard her hair song on VH1 Soul when I saw the video. Since then, its just been on adult contemporary radio. This is why she and a lot of other great artists don't get their props b/c most radio stations rather play the same 6 songs over and over again all day than to play something refreshing and new.

Comment: This reminds me of when Jill Scott first came out. Radio REFUSED to play her music, it took a grassroots effort from Philadelphia on out in order to get her the recongition she deserved. I'm so sick of radio dictating what I listen to. I want to hear more diversity instead of the same sh!t over and over and over until they force me to sing along! DCDG< debuting at number 1 all depends on who else came out that same week. That's why when artists say they debuted at number 1 it's not always a big deal.

The reason why this is her first #1 debut is because soceity seems to put more emphasis on what they consider to be the "total package". She is not the "typical" beauty, but she is a beautiful woman. I love her music and the sooner we move away from the "sex symbol" images and embrace real talent...the sooner people like India, Jill and others can be recognized for what we all craze...Real, True talent!

Regarding sales: Starbucks is bumping and pumping the album along with my latte. You can buy it right there and listen while you stand in line. So, she is smart as well as talented. Use every available channel. Go miss lady!

Comment: I love India as well and I'm looking forward to buying her CD. I enjoyed the first 2 and I appreciate anyone with good lyrics and substance to their music. Check out Raheem DeVaughn, Leela James, Wayna, Anthony Hamilton, Donnie, Floetry, Eric Roberson & Lalah Hathaway for a few other artists that are really about good music! I go by word of mouth because the stuff I like isn't played on the radio!

You are so right artists like Jill, India, Leela James, Lina do not get the play the deserve from radio and I have caught alot of artists I love on VH1 Soul... which is a premium station in my neck of the woods.

Even if it's just one week that the typical number one record is not fueled by an artist or a video that has all the normal "booty shaking" in it.
