Comment: WHAT??? Where have I been that I didn't know Gil Scott Heron had a drug problem and was HIV positive??? I remember my parents talking about him when I was little and I remember when I was in high school and we wanted to be 'cool' so we learned the words to "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". This news is so sad. Jail won't help the brotha, it doesn't help anyone. It just teaches you to be more resourceful at finding ways to get high and learn more crimes. Why didn't they just send him back to rehab? Call me naive but that seems to be the best way to help him. so, so sad...

Comment: WHAT!! I knew Gil Scott was a coke head and more recently a crackhead but the HIV hot damn Gil!! I met him in the mid 80s and was able to actually sit and have a conversation with him. He is still one helluva a spoken word brother - hell he was rapping before rap was even thought about. I won't count him out but if he's going in for this sentence, prisons aren't known for taking care of AIDS patients.

Comment: YEAH, i used to love some Gill Scott Heron. i really hate this happened to him. he was a good looking brotha too. he was one of the greats. did he have any books on his poetry??

Comment: I was headlining a show at Lorton in 88 and was so late gettin there that he ended up opening up for me. How ironic the his addiction and his last name sound almost the same. The guy who played Ericas husband Demetri on all my children has full blown aids from his drug use. He was also Joan Collins husband on dynasty. He got busted two years ago in a crack house in harlem poor things
