Comment: Well Lovey, I've been married 19 years & have known my hubby for 23 years. The only thing that I can say that has worked in my marriage is trust. We have both married & single friends & we trust each other. I dont get all in his kool-aid (checking cell phone records, going thru his wallet...etc.) We always complement each other & arguing is a no, no - we have discussions.I must say my husband takes care of all the busines of the house & I have access to everything. I know how much money comes in & how much goes out. When God sends you a good mate you will know.

Comment: I know I have a good man, I think I'm just terrified of actually getting married. My mom and dad married each other twice and it STILL didn't work. I'm so completely happy the way things are but all my friends are trying to pressure me into getting married. He's being very patient with me though.

Comment: thanks everybody. I'm moving closer and closer towards the whole marriage mindset but I still have some issues with myself that I need to work out. He knows that and he's standing by me. It's just that we have been together so long that all these folks are telling us to just take the leap and see if it works. I don't want to be like my mom. She wasn't ready to be married but she did it anyway and hurt my dad really bad.

Comment: BHBull, 2 for 1 was funny! :-) But I don't have time for kids so procreation is definitely a liability for me.

Comment: >Lovely, marriage, black love, is a LOVELY thing:-) For me, there are a lot of benefits for being married. Here are 10 benefits that come to mind: #1, I always have someone to talk to, #2 For us, we're opposites, so we compliment each other and we learn a lot from each other #3 I spend quality time with the man that I love #4, I have easy access to some hot, lovely relations;-) #5 We plan our future & our children's future together as a team #6 We try new things to re-invent our relationship #7 We have companionship #8 We enjoy doing things for one another #9 We get to dress one another #10 I feel secure & safe when I'm with him Okay, if I think of some more, I'll be back!

Name: asize12
Comment: >Lovely, DO NOT listen to what everyone else is saying...do you...do what makes YOU happy. Do it with no regrets. And please stop comparing yourself to your mother, that's you're mother's life, not yours. Just because her relationships failed doesn't mean that yours will. >rayne, girl I left out the most important thing! TRUST! Can't have a relationship without it. IMO, the things that make a relationship work are RESPECT, TRUST, COMMUNICATION, & LOYALTY (and of course LOVE).

NEW YORK (CNN) -- We Americans like to think we're a pretty smart people, even when evidence to the contrary is overwhelming. And nowhere is that evidence more overwhelming than in the Middle East. History in the Middle East is everything, and we Americans seem to learn nothing from it. President Harry Truman took about 20 minutes to recognize the state of Israel when it declared independence in 1948. Since then, more than 58 years of war, terrorism and blood-letting have led to the events of the past week. Even now, as Katyusha rockets rain down on northern Israel and Israeli fighter jets blast Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, we simultaneously decry radical Islamist terrorism and Israel's lack of restraint in defending itself. And the U.S. government, which wants no part of a cease-fire until Israel is given every opportunity to rescue its kidnapped soldiers and destroy as many Hezbollah and Hezbollah armaments as possible, urges caution in the interest of preserving a nascent and fragile democratic government in Lebanon. Could we be more conflicted? While the United States provides about $2.5 billion in military and economic aid to Israel each year, U.S. aid to Lebanon amounts to no more than $40 million. This despite the fact that the per capita GDP of Israel is among the highest in the world at $24,600, nearly four times as high as Lebanon's GDP per capita of $6,200.

Name: Prubin40
Comment: Lebanon's lack of wealth is matched by the Palestinians -- three out of every four Palestinians live below the poverty line. Yet the vast majority of our giving in the region flows to Israel. This kind of geopolitical inconsistency and shortsightedness has contributed to the Arab-Israeli conflict that the Western world seems content to allow to perpetuate endlessly. After a week of escalating violence, around two dozen Israelis and roughly 200 Lebanese have died. That has been sufficient bloodshed for United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and British Prime Minister Tony Blair to join in the call for an international security force, ignoring the fact that a U.N. force is already in Southern Lebanon, having failed to secure the border against Hezbollah's incursions and attacks and the murder and kidnapping of Israeli soldiers. As our airwaves fill with images and sounds of exploding Hezbollah rockets and Israeli bombs, this seven-day conflict has completely displaced from our view another war in which 10 Americans and more than 300 Iraqis have died during the same week. And it is a conflict now of more than three years duration that has claimed almost 15,000 lives so far this year alone. An estimated 50,000 Iraqis and more than 2,500 American troops have been killed since the insurgency began in March of 2003, which by some estimates is more than the number of dead on both sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict over the past 58 years of wars and intifadas. Yet we have seen no rescue ships moving up the Euphrates for Iraqis who are dying in their streets, markets and mosques each day. French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has not leaped to Baghdad as he did Beirut. And there are no meetings of the Arab League, and no U.S. diplomacy with Egypt, Syria and Jordan directed at ending the Iraqi conflict. In the Middle East, where is our sense of proportion? Where is our sense of perspective? Where is our sense of decency? And, finally, just how smart are we?

Comment: Bush to call for unity during first NAACP speech President Bush has a good relationship with the NAACP's new leader, a White House spokesman says. WASHINGTON -- President Bush will address the NAACP's annual convention this week, the White House said Tuesday, making an appeal for unity in what will be the president's first appearance before the nation's oldest civil rights group since coming to office. During his 5 1/2 years in the Oval Office, Bush has had a tense relationship with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. NAACP leaders have criticized his social, economic and foreign policies as well as his failure to meet with the organization since assuming office. Bush appeared before the NAACP in 2000 during his first run for the presidency. But White House spokesman Tony Snow said Bush has a good relationship with the group's new president, Bruce Gordon, and sees "an opportunity to have a conversation." "He has an important role to play not only in making the case for civil rights, but maybe more importantly, the case for unity," Snow said. "Because as long as we have a nation that in any way is divided along racial lines or where politics become a source of division rather than one of simple debate and trying to perfect democracy, that's a problem." The NAACP is holding its 97th annual convention Thursday in Washington. There was no immediate response from the group to the White House announcement.

Comment: Criticism to Katrina response Civil rights leaders also have criticized Bush for his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina. In a speech from New Orleans, Louisiana, two weeks after the hurricane left much of the city flooded, Bush linked the storm's disproportionate impact on African-Americans to widespread poverty that stemmed from "a history of racial discrimination." Facing opposition from some Southern GOP lawmakers, the president recently backed the renewal of the Voting Rights Act. Those Republicans wanted to drop or modify provisions that require Southern states to submit changes to election rules to the Justice Department. Bush received about 9 percent of the African-American vote in 2000. That figure improved slightly in 2004, to 10 percent, according to exit polls. A CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll taken in Katrina's wake found that 14 percent of African-Americans approved of Bush's job performance, and 72 percent agreed with the view that the president did not care about black people.

Comment: The EU gives billions to the Palestians. Tony Blair just request $9 BILLION in aid from British sources alone. Ask yourself where all this $$ is going for less than a few million people. They all should be millionaires. TRACE THE $$$. The TRUTH is that their despotic leaders keep the money and blame the Jews for their daily poverty. PLO leader Arafat died a billionaire while his people starved. Our gov't should continue to give $$ to Isreal, an alley in War on Terror. Islam doesn't desire peace. Read up on your history and read the Qu'ran. They are facists who do not repect freedom of religion, women's rights, or freedom period. Do not be decieved!

Comment: Asize12> you hit it right on target. Lovely> just take your time & I agree with Asize12 dont compare what you will have in your marriage to your parents & stop listening to your single friends, they only get in the way. You have to go with your heart. Sure, marriage is not a easy thing, but with God's grace ALL things are possible. Oh, one other thing, donot go crazy planning your wedding, keep it within your budget & dont worry about what other people think. I know couples who spend thousands of dollars on weddings & two months later they are in divorce court. Remember you have to live once that wedding is over. I can smell those potatoes & onions!

Comment: July 13. To all onlookers Shawn "Jay Z" Carter is on top of the world. He's a platinum selling artist, he's dating the lovely Beyonce Knowles, and he's the president of a major record label. But for years he's been living with a secret that's been haunting him - the fact that his mother is a lesbian. And according to industry insiders, he's paranoid that the secret will come out. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a person close to Jay-Z who tells of the lengths that Jay Z has gone to protect his secret. According to the insider, Jay Z has been frantically hiding his mother's gay lifestyle for years. The insider tells us that Jay Z, "has paid a lot of people to keep quiet about it", saying, "and if Jay knew that I were telling you this, I'd be blacklisted from the music industry." The insider explained, "the last thing that Jay Z wants is for someone like Cam'ron to find out and talk about his mother on a diss record." And the fear of having his mother's secret life exposed has led him to make some startling business decisions. MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively to one of the hottest young female rappers, Lucy Diamonds (Lucy Diamond's myspace page). Lucy claims that the Def Jam president didn't sign her to a record contract because he thought that she was a lesbian. Lucy explained, "Jay-Z doesn't want anything bi-sexual or gay to be affiliated with him because he doesn't want it to bring attention to his mother." Ironically, Lucy Diamonds is straight. But Jay Z isn't the only rap superstar to have a gay mother. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's late mother was an open lesbian. Representatives for Jay Z were not available to comment.

Comment: Are Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown going through yet another rough patch? Folks concluded as much after Brown, during a weekend concert at L.A.'s Greek Theater, reportedly announced that he'd split from his wife and is "looking for a new tenderoni. Anybody want to come home with me tonight?" Despite the testimony of multiple witnesses, Brown's lawyer, Phaedra Parks, insisted last night that Brown and Houston happily celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary yesterday "with a quiet dinner." The 37-year-old crooner previously denied a Lowdown report that he and the 43-year-old R&B diva, stars of last summer's Bravo reality show "Being Bobby Brown," were on the rocks. But I hear Brown was hanging backstage with Karrine Steffans — who wrote about her dangerous liaisons with him in her sexcapade memoir, "Confessions of a Video Vixen" — and left with her after the show at the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz E350. I also hear that in recent weeks, Brown has been sleeping at various L.A. hotels while Houston has been living at home. Parks denied Brown departed with Steffans and said he's stayed in hotels only to rehearse. Houston's spokeswoman, Nancy Seltzer, said she has "no comment on the state of their union."

Comment: July 17. Rumors have been swirling for some time that Star Jones' marriage to Al Reynolds is in trouble. Now it seems that Al is ready to call it quits. Last week Al Reynolds visited the offices of the divorce law firm Blank Rome LLP in New York's Chrysler building. MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with a building employee who first noticed Star's soon-to-be-ex. According to the witness, "Al walked up to the security desk and signed in to visit [one of the Blank Rome's divorce lawyers] Stanford Lotwin." Mr. Lotwin is one of the most prominent divorce attorney's in New York. He worked on the high-profile divorces of Howard Stern, Donald Trump, Geraldo Rivera and Diana Ross. After remaining upstairs for nearly two hours, Al tried to quietly sneak out of the building. But before he could leave, the witness tells MediaTakeOut.com, "I walked up to him and said 'Al, is that you', and Al ran out of the building - almost knocking over a pregnant woman."

Comment: Rayne & Asize12 -- I try not to compare my life to my mom's but I can totally see myself getting married just to shut everyone else up (which is what my mom did). She wanted to travel and be a free spirit and my dad was the stay at home type, in med school and just trying to have the white picket fence. Mom wasn't ready for that and kinda left my dad in the dust. He thought she'd slow down but she never did. Anyway, I know he's the man I'll marry, I just don't want to take that step yet. Oh, and on the wedding budget thing, I've been planning it since I was like 5 years old - I'm sure it's over any normal budget. But I understand that the wedding is just 4 or 5 hours and the marriage is a lifetime. I'm getting there but I'm just not there yet.

Comment: Lovely: Take "YOUR" time with marriage. If you wanna wait, then wait. If your man is willing to wait for you, then he's the one. Don't let anyone tell YOU when YOUR ready for marriage. p.s. I'm seriously gonna hurt you with those P&O's. I would be eating the same thing, sitting on the couch, looking at my favorite court shows. I'm gonna take a mental health day really soon cuz a sista is feeling burnt out!! Save me some P&O's!!

Comment: >rayne & lovely, my wedding was like the most inexpensive wedding on earth! It was planned in 5 months, my dress & veil were rentals, my family catered the food, my momma did ALL the decorations, my makeup & hair was free. Both of our rings cost under $1,000. We went to Vegas for the honeymoon for 3 days and didn't spend over $500 (we got free airline tickets, my sister works for Southwest). I'd say we spend no more than $4,000, that's including the trip to vegas, all the dresses & all the tuxes. Spending a lot of money on weddings ESPECIALLY if you ain't got it is ridiculous and uneccessary.
