Comment: Darn; if that's what she looks like at 83 then she must have rocked the world at 18. RIP and my condolences to her family.

Comment: I never heard of Dorothea Towles Church, I looked her up on the internet and her career was definitely that of a pioneer and her accomplishments great. However, after reading a few articles concerning her, she was never listed as or referred to as a "black" model. Due to her skin pigmentation, designers did and could lie about her nationality, she even dyed her hair platinum blonde to look less ethnic (so she pioneered the blonde thang before Mary J Blige) .....she basically passed.....However, I found it interesting that she lied to wear certain designers gowns for an Ebony Magazine shoot. The designer did not want her to wear the gowns in Ebony Magazine, because he did not want to offend his white clientele. I haven't been able to find any photos of her, but she looks beautiful. Absolutely stunning as a seasoned citizen

You can see pics of her inside the really old copies of Ebony (1950-60s). If you know a collector or are fortunate to live near a large library, this would be worth the trip.
