Comment: Paul Porter, I remember you from 'KYS back in the day. Back when it seemed that dj's had at least a little autonomy over their playlists. When they weren't playing the same 18 jamz in a row their competitors are playing. Before there was syndication to the degree that radio all across the country sounds the same and is losing it's local & regional flavors. Back when artists who funked (or rocked, etc.) outside the block could find a place on Black radio, because they were Black artists making the music they felt, and not just using the same producers and same guests and same formulas as whatever is currently popular. R.I.P. Black Radio.

Comment: It is very sad. Ever since de-regulation in 1996 where one company can own as many stations as they want, Black Radio has been watered and dumbed down. Gone are the days when DJ's took delight in discovering a new jam and then playing it on the air for you to decide if you like it or not. Use to be fun....

Comment: Diversification of ownership in broadcast media is a thing of the past for sure. Understanding that the “broadcast media” shapes, forms and makes real our perception of reality and others perception of us! What we are witness to now is the in mass socialization / brainwashing of the fruits of Frankie’s generation, of ourselves, our youth and our future. We own very little yet buy everything. Social simulation to a culture portrayed as ours created by others. These new cookie cutter formats on “Black Radio” insures that radio is not the place to tune to for local news, information and community affairs. And, that radio will not respond to the needs of these communities’. Notice how most all syndication are in large urban areas? What a danger to have this mass of people well informed and empowered with an outlet that expressed their views. A Radio. One that can respond to the needs of the people and offer an open forum for constructive conversation and dialog. THINK ABOUT THIS: What if all media ownership was in the hands of just a few..Radio, T.V., Cable, newspapers, billboards ECT...all? Now let’s just pretend that a major happening was going on in your City, State, Country, or World. How would you know WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON?? Your understanding and perception of the happening would be shaped by what you hear, see, and read of this happening. THINK ABOUT IT!! The less people own the airwaves the more pointed the scrutiny should be of those who do. So now, Go to your windows, open them up and shout “I AM AS MADD AS FELL, AND I WONT TAKE THIS ANYMORE”.. And please TURN YOUR RADIO OFF, TURN OFF YOUR RADIO, YOUR RADIO IS A TURNOFF. Peace, One Love, Pan-African Worldwide Reparations NOW!! Ps: may be Tom Journer is doing the best he can in the current environment. Not owning but using mass media. Coming in as “blackface” and dropping nuggets of knowledge along the way? Just maybe?
