Comment: In Panachereport today, it is reported that Mr. Diddy, spent $16,200 for a private jet to carry extra luggage from France to Rome.

Name: jab122
Comment: I don't know exactly how I feel about this article, okay they are all rich, and?? I'm not hating or nothing, but seriously, how important is it that Puffy has $25 million more than Jay-z? If it ain't going towards my mortgage, I could careless...

Name: Selah
Comment: How did Damon Dash make $200 Million this year? Maybe he was paid for his share of Rocawear, or the liquor company he used to have with Jay-Z. Please help me understand. What does he actually do anymore? Really, I want to know.

Name: khufu
Comment: I thought Cube was worth more.....so many with so much money and Black folks overall still fooked up and collectively powerless...shame...now, how much of their money is based on the exploitation of Black people?

Name: NJBLKGUY
Comment: Good point khufu.

Name: najab
Comment: EUR,your article states Nelly and Dupri tied with 10mil.

Name: caramelpoetry
Comment: Dayum, I thought Germaine and Nelly had more cash than that. What does Janet want with Germaine anyway, he isn't rich! I also thought 50 cent had more cash than that. Some of those guys are spending their money friviously!

Name: kady
Comment: Jermaine needs to take that 10mil and get his raggedy mouth fixed...

Name: gingerg
Comment: They should take some of this money and follow Oprah's lead by engaging in philanthropy that would benefit the community. They could build schools, health centers, recreation centers, sponsor college educations, etc. It would be a good way to give back to those who have supported them. They wouldn't even miss the money.

Name: VeeCee
Comment: Thank you jab122 - my sentiments exactly. I just wonder if any of these "millionaires" are using any of their wealth towards helping others (scholarships, Hurricane Katrina victims, providing businesses in underserved areas to benefit communities [example: Magic Johnson theatres], etc.) since they charge enough money for their sneakers/designer clothing anyway. Just my thoughts....

Name: Hollyhood
Comment: And now that I have this information, it helps me how? LOL

Name: Priceless
Comment: Ah what's $6 million more *smirk* just give me that and I would be happy .... if Dame is worth that much money why is he always complaining ... he need to enjoy his wealth and just chill

Name: Priceless
Comment: jab & VC, I believe some of those on the list do have their causes ... didn't J-Z start some type of center in the hood ... and seem like I heard something about fiddy's charities in the past year too, but on the real these guys are not going to give away a significant portion of their wealth because it would take money away from their ability to floss

Name: Priceless
Comment: oh and I can't believe I'm gonna defend EUR, but Forbes and other reputable media/print outlets routinely list the richest people so this is just in the same vain as those outlets

Name: gingerg
Comment: Priceless, therein lies the problem. All of this flossin while your people are in a state of crisis is not cute. Where would the Jews be if they had the same kind of mentality?

Name: STELLABABY
Comment: my sentiments are the same as well.here in nyc where 4 of those people live.they are not doing one thing that would benefit the black community in a sense that right now we should all but own harlem, yet white folks are buying up property and kicking some folks out of the community.we as a people should have a stronghold on the beauty supply stores.but we don't,the koreans do.and they're not even us citizens.how many homes and cars can you buy, don't get me wrong there are a lot of celebritys that use their money, position and time to enrich our people.why don't we enrich our own fashion designers.interior designers, shoe designers.and let me go a little further to say our arcitechts, furniture makers, landscapers etc...when will we wake up.peace and blessings

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Carmelpoetry, VeeCee, I know Sir Derrty, Nelly does things for folks on the daily. Programs for kids in St. Louis and out, his foundation, he feeds folk, tractor trailers worth of food. Jermaine, he gives as well but with all the songs he produces, he should be ahead of Sir Derrty.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Stellababy, I don't know what is wrong with us. Every nationality sticks together in that respect but us. If we ain't runnin' round with white women, we're spending money supporting everything else, everywhere else but with our own. Don't get me wrong, some of us need to up our game up in the courtesy department, to make folk want to spend with them, but for the most part, we need to do us.

Name: AquaBoogie
Comment: Oh Master P, looking at this list must make you say Unhhhh... And why isn't Timbaland on this list? Neptunes are cool and all, but he got better beats and I know he gets paid top dollar for producing. What's up, Timbo?

Name: Stephanie
Comment: Just think if they used all that wealth combined to do what Magic Johnson is doing? We made them filthy rich but yet look at the state we're in. You think P Shitty cares about the black colleges that are folding, you think Jay-Z would take time to mentor young black boys and make them into respectable men? They have all that wealth and yet have no voice because just like YT gave it, he damn sure can take it away...if they need a constant reminder, just look at what we had to go through to pass the voting rights act not too long ago...PULEASE

Name: giantsfan
Comment: I think Puffy has a charity called Daddy's House that Sista Soulja runs. He has had it for years. They take kids from New York to different parts of the world. I believe when he ran the NYC marathon, it raised $1.5 million to buy computers for the NYC schoool system. After Katrina, it was hip hop that took the lead. Jay Z and Puff gave $1 million within days, and T.I. went on the radio in Atlanta and raised $300,000 in 2 hours, and then matched it. If you dont like these cats, thats cool, but letsnot pretend they dont do anything in the community.

Name: dcdouglass01
Comment: A very powerful statement of the power of hip hop over the last 15 years, a genre we (Black folk in general, and young Black folk in particular) created and have much control. Congrats to these brothers for being on the cutting edge of making that happen.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: STELLABABY>now i definitly feel you on that one sweetie. i mean, Harlem is the mecca of the Harlem Rennisance. and with the sudden emergence of the wheat folks moving in simply because it's popular to live in harlem they are tearing down and taking away the rich and beautiful black history harlem has and i just think with these "black moguls" should invest money in the upkeep of the importance of harlem.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: MOTHERSHIP>right on my sista! right on. because that is our legacy. what will we have left to show to our future children? nothing because it will be all gone, torn, and brought up by "de wyt man". yeah, it's time to wake up!

Name: timmdogg
Comment: I am totally for rich black celebrities helping out impoverished sisters and brothers, but we as race need to instilled in our kids from a young age the importance of education and having respect for our fellow men and women. We as black people cannot look up to rappers to be supportive to the various causes/plight we are facing. Parenting is the key to success and determination <are> factors, also! I am a black man and I value the respect of my elders, parents and other black people that are positive in nature and "walking the walk" not these so-called rappers that are so degrading to our woman and believe "bling-blinging" is the status quo for being hip and fresh and half of these fools can't read, write and understand recording contracts? Magic Johnson, Oprah, Bill Cosby, Bill Gates, Michael Douglas(the actor)Shaq,Geraldo and the great humanitarian efforts of Bono (U2) are all doing great things for the benefit/enrichment of Black people and aren't degrading us in public. No one is perfect, but I pray some of these moguls reflect someone paved the way for them and gave them a "lift up" when it was needed! Nuff said!

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: GIANTSFAN...Thanks goodness! It's good to know that people are aware of things other than wut the media would like for you to believe. U can take ANY of those mentioned here and EASILY find out the things they are doing for "us" It takes a simple "google" I swear fo god, instead of sitting back in Cosby'esque mode, do research and find out information for yourselves. We hold hip-hop to a much higher standard than our respective political party, national leaders, and those outside of the hip-hop industry. Something is wrong here and I believe the longstanding remnants of antiquated ideas, lack of cohesion, and just old folk who need to "sot" down and stop preaching/start teaching is more of the problem.

Name: JamerDelta
Comment: I find the reactions to this article quite interesting. These people aren't the only ones that can earn millions. Not to be rude or anything, but every single person that spoke on this board can find opportunity themselves and help others as well. Most people would rather complain than do what it takes to make a difference themselves. Who are we to spend someone else's money that they earned themselves? I believe that most of them do help others in whatever ways that they choose to. The question is, if you are really passionate about helping others, preserving our history, etc. then why aren't you doing it? Why are you judging others and waiting on someone else? If anyone is interested, truly interested in a way to create millions, there are lots of opportunities out there. I would be glad to share if someone is serious. cherish2949@yahoo.com

Comment: gingerg, I wouldn't be disappointed if we used the Jew model to the success but that will never happen .. it's the way most blacks are wired unfortunately

Name: Priceless
Comment: musb, this is not an old folk issue ... you have some of those old folk as you call them agreeing with what you said ... some of the youngins seem to hold hip hoppers more accountable than someone of my generation who actually look at these people as entertainers and not the keepers of our future

Comment: I must admit, when I made my statement this morning, I was going to question what they were doing with their money, but I didn't feel I had the right too, though I do think that with all of the privilege comes responsibility. And I do practice what I preach both by being giving of my time and funds and I don't even make nearly that much!

Name: nycGYRL888
Comment: To>>giantsfan & JamerDelta>>> you both are correct in your comments! People are so quick to rush to judgement...so quick to say what so and so is doing or not doing! Its THEIR dammm money....if they want to fight for a cause, donate to a cause or NOT...its their prerogative! Hell, if I had their money, I'd do what I wanted not what was expected just because I had it...hell the bible says 10% not ALL OF IT...so if they are doing what they feel in their heart of hearts is necessary, than more power to them! We can't expect our celebrities to fight for us & come to our rescues...when 1/2 of us won't even fight for ourselves!

Name: khufu
Comment: what is money without poltical consciousness? what is cash without cultural awreness? all this money and AFrican Americans still dont make cars or own airlines or have their own schools en masse? Money is not power.....nor is money wealth.......power and wealth are based on controlling resources...being able to develop those resources is power and wealth....

Name: khufu
Comment: see this kind of "it's their money" consciousness is part of the problem.... nycGYRL888

Name: nycGYRL888
Comment: Khufu...it is their money! This whole "you owe me something" mentality is ridiculous! I understand where you are coming from (political consciousness) and all...but at the end of the day...they DO NOT OWE US ANYTHING! I work, I make my own money, I contribute where I see fit to contribute...but you can best believe I will not make a contribution to a cause out of guilt...that BS to me.

Name: khufu
Comment: anybody add all those numbers up? this would be interesting to know: how much of the money comes from "Black dollars" and how many from "non Black dollars"?

Name: khufu
Comment: Hollyhood Damn..if someone has to tell you you are one ignant azz.....1) now you know how much they have, accountability...make some request/demands on them to "give back".....2) it shous you their/our value.....

Comment: nycGYRL888 okay, first--I am from QUeens..where you at? Okay..nicities aside...willie lynch fukked your mind up, gurl! LOL they owe they peoples as do all Black folks who "make it"...It's that simple......need I go into the historical, cultural, sociological, etc bantering about WHY that's the case? Why is it that WE the only folks who just do get that celebs and wealthy folk...well, people with a lot of money anyway--owe the community? why is that? it's their money because some Black folks suffered for them to have the right to sing about big azzes, guns and hoes...it's their money because WE SUPPORT THEY AZZES financially, morally, etc....man they owe the people.....once more of yall can embrace that sheet then the easier it will be for us collectively..when the IRS asks yo azz for the money you owe--you pay up! Some men in the church tell you you owe God some money---you pay up---to God LOL well to the church...and the preacher gets what percentage before God gets his cut? WHT IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE TRUTH THAT YOU OWE YOUR PEOPLE AND THE COMMUNITY?

Name: LastMinuteLagger
Comment: CaramelP/Kady > The article said that both Jermaine and Nelly tied at 10mil apiece, but the breakdown following the article shows them at 60mil and I'm inclined to believe that Jermaine has at least 60mil since he's been in the business for a minute now (starting out with Kriss/Kross); and Kady you are right, Jermaine is not rich - at least compared to Janet. I know years ago Janet made a deal for her Velvet Rope album and other forthcoming projects for about 80 mil and it was said that she was the highest paid female entertainer at the time.

Name: JamerDelta
Comment: >>>fairydust777. Please get in touch with me at cherish2949@yahoo.com. >>khufu, ok, lets say that you are correct which means then that you also owe the community. Are you making as much as you possibly can to give back since you owe???

Comment: Yes many have fought the good fight on our behalves...I'm appreciative and I am not even on the level of a Diddy & JZ so my 6 figures a year does not even compare to their 7+ but I do what I want with what I have! Not because I feel obligated to. We all know they make contributions (whether its out of the kindness of their hearts or for tax purposes)...they are not pocketing every dime they make. I grew up in BedStuy, moved to Queens Village and recently left to come to MD...I decided I'd get much more for myself and my family outside of the city that likes to swallow you whole and spit you out! Point being...is we have choices in life...I've made mine, you've made yours and Our celebrities have made theirs. We all have our own crosses to bear...and judgement should be left to Him and Him alone! If you are making huge contributions to the communities, I thank you and I applaud you...but its a choice you've made because...you have the RIGHT to make that choice!

Comment: Khufu...I don't think that ne1 knows the extent of what these people are doing w/their money. Factually, there will NEVER be enough that ne1 can do because there will ALWAYS be people like you who say that they should be doing more. If I'm paid like they are and establish scholarships for inner city youth, donate money to build local community centers, put in my time towards enrichment activities, then who are u 2 say..."I should be doing more" We ALL can do more and having less money than millioinaires shouldn't absolve anyone of their responsibility. I know of TOOOO many six-figure incomes folk who NEVER give back to anything other than their social organizations. Khufu..between reading your book lists and pontificating, there has to be a point where u realize that YES there is a socioeconomic backdrop for everything we do...BUT as times change..so must your position. This is not the era of Douglass, Du Bois, and Woodson and frankly I don't think they would be as relevant now as they were back then. JMO

Name: One2Adore
Comment: khufu - I'm sorry, but I believe you are way off base. But you are entitled to your views. I just don't understand why they (black celebrities) are EXPECTED to do more. And who's to say that they're not. No one on here, that I know of, works as an Account for any of the celebrities listed. So how can one determine what they have or haven't done with there money? If a celeb boasts about the charities they give to, then they are just looking for attention. If they do it in secrecy, then they are possibly seen as not giving at all. No one knows but the celeb and their account. Why even speak of what they SHOULD do without knowing what they ARE doing?

Comment: JAMERDELTA..yes I am giving back WHAT I can HOW I can.."To Whom a Lot is Given, A Lot is Required" so we give according to what we have

Name: nycGYRL888
Comment: And realistically speaking...no matter what ANY of us do...it will NEVER be enough! Dating back to our history...many have fought the good fight for us but even what they've done...could not be classified as enough I sure to some people! Who are we to past judgement and DEMAND that people with many zero's after their salaries give just because! We have no right. Celebrities don't force us to buy from them, see their concerts, watch their shows, etc. We do because we want to...they give or not give...for that same reason.

Name: khufu
Comment: ONE@ADORE....To Whom a Lot is Given A lot Is Required...also, Where are OUR industries that employ us and empower us? Chinese have it. Japanese have it. Jews have it. Why do YOU not expect that Black folks should operate to those human standadrs based on love of self and the first law of nature: self-preservation?

Name: khufu
Comment: MUSBDHERBS thank God there will always be people like me who expect us to care for another to the extent that it might hurt a bit.........I am in the company of spiritual giants.....

Name: khufu
Comment: Im sorry MUSBDHERBS..but what is the difference between "back in the day" and NOW...besides wide spread Segregation? That's a major part of the problem right there.....there are those like you who think that the history is not relevant to the presnet...DuBois' info is still prevalent as Woodson and Trotter and Garvey and Booker T and Noble Drew......doing for one's community is the basis of power..real power...again i ask: WHY DOES EVERY OTHER ETHNIC/NATIONALITY UNDERSTANND THIS BUT AFRICAN-AMERICANS?

Comment: Yes, JamerDelta, I do give of time and money to those less fortunate than myself. I cannot afford to give as much as PDiddy, JayZ, etc. can. (I also know that they have put up millions in aid to Hurricane Katrina relief.) If I had it like that, I would put my money towards something that people would actually need (such as computer equipment for schools, a community library, providing scholarships) rather than coming up with the latest $200 designer sneaker. And no, it's not mandatory for them to support "our" causes, but you can be sure that they earned some of their income from those of us who don't exactly live "a glamourous life." Magic could have just retired and rested on his laurels, but with him establishing a partnership with Sony for the Magic Johnson Theatres and other business ventures, the communities benefit (jobs and entertainment), and he still earns income from it. It's a win-win situation. It's only human to want the finer things in life, but it would just be nice if some of these millionaires could follow his example.

Comment: Hey One2Adore: I applaud blks like Oprah and Cosby being huminatarian but it is their "choice," for those rich blk celebrities who do not give back, that is their choice also. We as a race need to stop expecting handouts for help when we need to concentrate on helping ourselves, it worked for me. We are the only race who constantly ask celebrities: What have you done for the community? We have no right to tell those with money on how to spend their money. If you read the entire hip-hop list, they explain why Master P (filed for bankruptcy) and Will Smith (more of an actor than rapper) are not on the list. They also reveal the wealth of blk r&b stars and blk actors and actresses. Halle, Beyonce and Denzel are worth $65 million, R. Kelly, Janet, Mariah, worth $150 million, the whole list is insightful, and interesting.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Khufu..lol..sometimes u sound like the elderly family member that no one actually listens to because he/she feels as if "time" has given them the authority on what's right/wrong. To correct your %*$ertion, I never said that history was not relevant. Therefore, you're lumping me in categories in which I don't belong is not only wrong, the "sociohistoric" implications of doing that has proven to be disastrous. *smirk* What I said was that those mentioned probably would not be AS relevant now as they were then. They lived in a time when the vices stacked against us made it almost impossible for us to move ahead. That was the era in which there was a collective struggle. Unfortunately, we are no longer collectively strugglin. Many of us are now concerned about "our" individual success. So, I stand by my statement of "relevance."

Name: OSUN
Comment: Insider2 Amen to your statements. Please create a T Shirt. (We as a race need to stop expecting handouts for help when we need to concentrate on helping ourselves, it worked for me. Comment: Dearest khufu, I have a worthy cause that requires your attention... please. See, I have this vehicle I currently lease through my credit union and I need to make monthly payments to avoid defaulting on the loan. Also, I've been saving my pennies so that I can one day (in the near future with your help) take out another loan to purchase a big enough house for my family and my in-laws. I mean I figure it'd be cheaper for both sides to live under one roof. That way we can ALL save our money and open up our own chain of beauty supply store. Anyway... I'm getting off my original point of writing you this letter of request... Back to it.... Dear khufu, because you have such valid points and I truly admire your opinion, I was wondering if I could ask you to make a contribution to "My" wallet-- ur'a-- organization? Shall I email you with futher details and my organization's mailing address? Please respond ASAP with your email address as your attention to "My" cause, I mean the organization's cause would help us greatly. Sincerely, Dang

Comment: Alright check it out

Name: Perfectionist
Comment: Khufu its cool that you think people should help people out more, but why do you entitle that ONLY to black people? Furthermore black wealthy people? The quote you put up "To Whom a Lot is Given A lot Is Required" How do you know those people listed haven't done the "Lot required" And how can you define "enough" Do you have your own mathematical system for giving based on earnings? What good is it, if Blacks who become rich give all their earnings away only to become poor

Name: Perfectionist
Comment: It is a great thing to be caring to support communities, but it is foolish to give until you dont have any for yourself. You are so interested in helping people? Get out there and do it! NYC girl is correct. The whole "You owe us" mentality is ridiculous. To add to that, its one of many reasons blacks continue to suffer. Even when the government gives to blacks its been shown that what it creates is a DEPENDENCY. It's rare that people use welfare as a BOOST to get themselves back on their feet. Some people can work but simply just don't Its called LAZINESS and it leads to poverty.

Name: Perfectionist
Comment: Sitting back with our hands open, begging for help is a pitiful and unrealistic way to overcome the odds that face us as a race. It IS the celebrities money. It definetly is. Therefore THEY gauge how much of THEIR earnings is "enough" Cool, You want your words to sink in. But posting on a message board the way you did wont cause people to rise to action. Get some credibility get out there and make some real moves. Anyone can come on here and say "I give what I can" And to the lady who said "running around with white women" It great to preserve the culture but don't bash black men who can look past color and engage in meaningful relationships with people of other cultures. Not every black man who dates a white person is a sell out to their race. People overlook the fact that interracial couples are a beautiful sign of times changing and maybe even a sign of potential peaceful coexistence. Everyone is quick to pass their negative judgements. Blacks shouldn't look to divide themselves from other cultures but to become PARTNERS and COOPERATE with other cultures. But blacks divide themselves from each other, let alone other cultures.

Name: Perfectionist
Comment: Its not about "whos running "this" I admit not every resource in the world can be split evenly and it would feel great if our race had a larger chunk of the pie. But we shouldn't look to use resources to make blacks have power over OTHER races. The goal should be peaceful coexistence, not domination over another race. That only flips the problems over to the other side. If you TRULY care about PEOPLE, and the well being of PEOPLE. Then you seek to give to ALL POSSIBLE causes. NOT Just "black" causes. Sitting back and thinking you are not getting something you are owed just results in pathetic self pity and dissapointment. I agree, blacks should have more respect for their fellow man and woman. But I think its important that we stop sitting around complaining and begging for handouts. These articles about black people making money should be INSPIRING and LIBERATING to the soul. SO that MORE blacks can go out and have the courage to succeed in their various endeavors. Articles like this should NOT cause envious judgement, and its really sad that for some people that is what it does.

Name: Perfectionist
Comment: Theres a few rappers draped in cheesy gimmicks that exploit blacks. But theres a bigger more positive message behind all of these young black s SUCCEEDING at what THEY CHOSE to do. YES blacks can be more than rappers and ball players. OF COURSE. But media doesn't go into the details of the emergence of black doctors, lawyers etc. The media whether white OR black or green or yellow. Tends to focus on Forms of entertainment (like sports and music). The perception is that all blacks can do is rap or shoot hoops but thats only a perception passed down to people by the media. MORE blacks are actually collectively working for small businesses or being trained proffessionals. If you look at who is actually successful in the music industry its a small percentage compared to those working other professions. More blacks go to college and get their degrees, than succeed at rap and shooting hoops. The media just doesnt specialize in showing those things. Not because the people are black but because the media has NEVER really focused on those things white OR black. Those things simply dont bring in the GREEN the media desires. There are positive things going on for black people, but some people only see negative. No where in these posts is my aim to downplay the struggle of my people.

Comment: I am a Nigerian. A black who knows his roots. My last name still remains 100 percent African. I love my people. Comment: Reading some of these comments on here show that many people is unaware of alot of things these artists do for they communities and black people as a whole. The reason is because these things does not get the proper attention it deserves. Whenever Oprah does something its in the public eye immediately cause she on tv everyday. She no different then these artists. These artists has given or raised money for many different cause. So please dont act like Oprah is in a higher plain then these people in Hip Hop.
