Comment: ...and my friends wonder why I listen to OLD SCHOOL!!! Because the artist from then can SANG.. BLACK PEOPLE wake up don't let the music industry try and degrade our talenst. There are plenty of BLack people out there that can still sing. Please just go to church on any given Sunday or hang out in the hood long enough. I can't believe that this girl really things that she can sing. Oh my God, this is beyond PATHETIC. I feel really sorry for her if she is that naive and listening to what music execs are telling her. If she is just trying to get over on everybody, she better get her money quick. Maybe she is the new Ashanti, LAWD help us all.

Comment: All I can say is what worked for Janet, Aaliyah, J-Lo, Ciara, Rihanna, Beyonce, is not going to work for everybody. No one, absolutely no one can replace the artists we've lost already. I have to believe that had Aaliyah lived, she would have grown into her voice and artistry. Who is she and what has she be brought forth to do and be? The new Ciara? The new Rihanna? We don't need another princess; it's getting old and WEAK. And as these hip hop moguls get older, the girls get younger and prettier, with no more talent and ability than those who came before them, just a copy.

Comment: They probably thought her looks would make you overlook the fact that she can't sing and dance at the same time. Her choreographed moves were stiff. Thats not dancing. What is being offered as music is just sad.
I am so sick of seeing these studio enhanced vocalist. Cut the power and see what happens to thier vocal skills.
Makes you wanna blow the dust off the old 45s and have an old school jam.

Then, he got the nerve to say, on his show (making the band), Danity Kane is "not ready yet". Cassie make them making the band females sound like Aretha. *SMDH*

Comment: My son is a HUGE fan of Cassie and I have to say that when he heard her singing, she lost one. Thing is, girlfriend heard how terrible she sounded and started singing really low, accompanied by wack dancing. It is obvious she can't dance without help from a choreographer. She is young though and I hope this was just first performance jitters.

Comment: Sure MJB's vocals were weak back in the day, but she could work those ole skool joints like no one else at the time. MJB HAD SOMETHING. There was no one else like her, though Diddy did try to give her image to Faith Evans and Faith is a talent in her own right. MJB sang the songs of the great Aretha, Chaka Khan, etc. No one tried to make us believe that she was Aretha or Chaka. Besides, that was before Aaliyah died and left a void that the industry is trying in vain to fill. All that $$ and styling they do, the better not hit the stage and take the mike unless and until they are ready!!! Where's my turntable? Where's my 8 track?

Comment: This girl although cute cannot sing worth a lick. She can't dance and her backup singers had weak voices as well. What's funny about Puffy bringing her out is that some years back he turned down Kelly Price and Jill Scott. So you can see he's about image and not talent. She should be embarrased to pick up a mike. I think all aspiring singers need to listen to Patti, Chaka, Stephanie Mills, Barbara Streisand (yes that's a singing white woman) to first hear what REAL vocal ability is. Second they need to take voice lessons... there are too many in the business that get by on how nice the studio makes them sound. I know some of you like MJB but I saw her live and she was horrible. She couldn't hit those notes and the band just drowned her out. Same thing with Destiny's Child... all flat and nasal sounding. My voice teacher calls it singing through your nose. If Cassie is so horrible i wonder how she blew up on myspace.
My question for all of you who appreciate good singing and miss the old time artists is this: if a record label were to put out new artists that could actually sing AND give you a performance would you support them? What if some of these artists were in their lates 20's, 30's and even 40's ... would you support them? Thanks for your input.

Comment: FAIRYDUST> yeah, i would support them ONLY if they are truly ready. because when you hit that stage the show really rest upon you and you got to go in there fully ready to give it your all, cause if you don't, the audience will know about and then, they will let you know if your performance sucked and word of mouth (and email) will spread like wildfire and you will be hailed as yesterday's news. Cassie is not ready to meet her public yet. she needs to go back into training. also, it has to do with the style of the songs she sings too. you know, i miss the singers that belt out the kind of a song that will put goosebumps on your skin. i think about Keyshia Cole's song "Love". wonderful song, but, why do i hear Whitney singing it? cause she can belt it out.

Comment: FAIRY>and speaking of Keyshia Cole, i like her style. i like her tenasity, her spirit and her strength. she's a great studio singer and if she keeps on trying to perfect herself, i think she will be a force to be reckoned with when she matures more on the stage. the girl has struggled in her lifetime and you can hear it in her singing and that is remincent of the great singers of the past. but she is still growing into her craft. So in Cassie's case, she ain't ready yet for the public. she needs more vocal coaching.

Comment: bigchassie: you are right on the money. I like Keisha Cole's "Love" but when I heard her do it live on the BET awards it sounded awful. Yes when I talk about supporting new artists who are in their late 20's and up I most definitely am talking about people who are REALLY ready. I think a lot of us stop buying CDS (I know i download a lot) because we may like one or two songs and then that's it. It seems as if many artists think all they have to do is crank out one or two hot songs and the forget about the rest of the album. My mom still has vinyls. She showed me her old chaka khan album with her wearing a red dress and a hat. Just about every song on that album was good.
Does anyone know where I can read Chaka Khan's recent comments about singers?

Comment: fairydust777, wow that's interesting. The last and final rap concert I went to was Puff's Bad Boy Presents... and he introduced Kelly Price as the "next big thing" so this is interesting to hear he turned her down from Bad Boy. Maybe it's because he's a 'hip hop' label and know that he couldn't do either Jill or Kelly justice. But honestly, I don't see Jill Scott even wanting to be on a hip hop label.

Comment: Teigh, you just picked the words out of my head. I don't listen to the radio either. My niece (4 years old) and nephew (2 years old) have more mature vocal talent. I turned up the volume on my computer because I thought there was something wrong with the audio. Unfortunately, it wasn't the audio is was Cassie. I never heard of her. If she's the new hot talent, I think I will go back into hiatus in regard to R&B music.

Does anyone know why Kelly Price (who was in Tyler Perry's play Lord Why Did I Get Married and did a great job) does not appear in the video for it? He replaced Kelly with Cheryl Pepsi Riley.
