Comment: I think Bryant Gumbel is more militant than we give him credit for. I have never considered him a yes man. He has always been a Black man who spoke his mind. That's why he is sometimes called arrogant.

Comment: Gumbel's timing was terrible. Upshaw actually negotiated a good deal for the Players' Union and got more from the owners than they wanted to give. I don't like Bryant Gumbel so I'm happy when he makes himself look like a fool.
