Comment: This has to be a case of backing black. No thinking voter in maryland will put this man in higher office I don't care how good he looks in a suit. He's a bushit man - calls bushit 'homeboy' and dances around campaign contribution explanations. I've never trusted him - he looks too smoove.

Comment: If they want to support a candidate they should support Kwesi.
Who has the lead over the white Democratic candidate.
Russell is backing Steele who has no record of accompolishments and Ehrilich is an idiot who is going to get killed in the next election.

Comment: All Maryland voters should be looking to vote for Kweisi. We know where he's coming from, we know where he's been and we know what he's been doing. Steele has been in office several years and he tells you what you want to hear and waves his hands to create smoke and mirrors when you get too close. I don't like a back trackin' excuse making son of a gun!

Comment: Thank goodness I don't know who Simmons is or what he sells, as I know I would never buy anything he shills. A Republian who puts black issues in a postive light? I could go off on that one, but, all I have to say about the GOP is katrina and the Voting Rights act, affirmative action, better schools and black men in prison by the thousands, thats the way the GOP sees blacks, and, sorry Simmions, that ain't a positive light.

Comment: Fvck party lines. That's what's wrong us black folks. We get too caught up in this Republican and Democrat madness. That's why I'm a registered Independent. What about backing the best candidate who has our best interests at heart. Granted I don't live in Maryland, but you can damn sure believe if I did, I would vote for the candidate who was seeking to improve our community. Look to the community service records of each candidate and if they've held elected office, look at their respective voting records -- especially those bills that had/have a direct impact on our community. In a nutshell, it is imperative we do our due diligence when selecting a candidate and stop discounting folks because they are republicans. Beause right about now, it is damn difficult to tell them apart.

Comment: i agree...we are so caught up on party lines we lose track of the reality at hand. blaming the GOP for all the ills of the black community is a waste of breathe because last i checked the dems are not bending over backward to change whats going on either. we need to stop depending on them "white folk" and handle our own business. both party's use us for our votes. none of them are to be trusted. i do not live in maryland, but screw party and racial lines, go with who is telling the best sounding lies?

Comment: MzTee that candidate would be Kweisi Mfume not Steele. I realize that Kweisi is a democrat but he's the best one for this office. I don't intend to vote along party lines but for damn sure I'm watching ALL the candidates running for office and will vote for the one that has my concerns at their forefront. It also doesn't stop there because I intend to follow them through their terms with e-mails and maybe some visits to their offices. If they don't know where I'm coming from democrat or rethuglican, how can they know what I need for them to do!

Comment: ====>McNasty...I feel you. My post was questioning our sometimes 'blind' allegiance to the Democratic party. I just want us to be more analytical and judicious when we cast our precious votes.

Comment: I'm not for blind allegiance to the Democratic party, but I am also not voting Republican just to prove a point or to exercise a right of choice. In reality, we only have the illusion of choice in this country anyhow due to a rigic two-party system. Republican economic philosophy does not benefit me and I am not socially conservative - although many blacks are. So regardless of whether Democrats are taking my vote for granted or not, I still think that in most cases a republican does more damage to me when he is in office than a Democrat does. Now, if a republican runs for office who has a fiscal policy that I can subscribe too and has ideas for fixing some of these problems in our education system and housing policy that don't sound completely and utterly ridiculous, then he has my ear but normally republicans tow the line in order to win. Look at how long the republican senate and congress have pretended as though Bush has been doing great things...now when they can no longer pretend they are speaking out against him. If we had a Democratic president doing the things Bush is doing, Democrats would have withdrawn their support YEARS ago. There is A LOT more diversity in the Democratic Party. Michael Steele has no ideas of his own. I have seen him speak several times and watched several of his appearances on the BIll Maher show. He is a consummate line tower and that is why he is beloved by republicans.

Comment: In the next coming years we better vote for the best candidate. And if you don't realize that the Republican leadership is NOT the right leadership then YOU deserve what is happening now and what continues to happen. I have yet to find a Republican who is interested in any issue that would benefit African Americans. That doesn't mean that all Democrats do but it certainly does not mean we can run down the conservative road at this time. Let's be real. We don't have that luxury.

Comment: Yeah when the GOP is loving and supporting a black person....you better know that person is a definite line tower with no ability or interest in going against the grain....ie Clarence Thomas...CondoLIESa Rice and Michael Steele. All sell outs all the time. You can't just support a person because they are black. Condie wasn't bending over to help people that look like her when Lousiana was under water.

Comment: People, people, when are we going to realize that these political parties are all one in the same??? They exist and operate at the whims and dictates of their biggest supporters?? Those who make the biggest contributions have the most pull, they have the ear of whoever the politician is. Most of us,and I mean black folks, are chess pieces that exist to be manipulated and moved arbitrarily.
Do you really think that these white candidates are ever going to have our best interests??? Have they ever, if so, name me one. I'm of the belief that money talks, and if we start throwing enough of it around, I believe not only will we be heard, but things will be put into motion. Much love ya'll.

Comment: blackscribe< if you think the two political parties are the same, you really need to read more. Although they in theory want the same thing, their ideas of going about it are VASTLY different. The illusion of choice I alluded to is having a choice between 2 parties is really no choice at all, you always end up supporting the least of 2 evils OR you don't have a chance to vote for the ideas you like in each party b/c the system is winner take all. As far as us being pawns...the reality is WE ARE ALL pawns in the game of politics, not just black people. In order to get elected or to get policies passed they manipulate us, advertise to us, scare us etc, whatever they have to do to get their point across. Blacks are no more victims of that than anyone else is.
