Comment: oh no! I'm gonna miss him in r&b! He was one of the few consistent and interesting singers. I am curious to know why he couldn't separate the so-called r&b lifestyle from r&b music....To me, Dave sang about situations that everyone goes through whether they worship the Lord or not. His music was hardly wanton so I'm not sure what he was searching for but I hope he's found it. He should know that switching to gospel isn't going to cure whatever demons he was fighting before. He can ask that nasty pervert Kirk Franklin about that.

Comment: That's wonderful. God specifically has his hands on him for a divine purpose (simply to glorify him.) It's going to take people like Dave to be a testimony to others.

Comment: You are wrong, ImJustAsking! It's clear your understanding of inner turmoil and spiritual conflict is about as deep as a ounce of water in a frying pan. You don't get it! Anyway, I had the pleasant opportunity to meet Brother Hollister this year after a play he was featured in back in Tampa, Florida. We didn't talk long, but I did get a chance to ask him about his conversion to Gospel and was it true? He confirmed by nodding his head and empathically stated he was "done" with R&B. I was looking him dead in his eyes when he said that and I believed him. He seemed sincere. Truth told, I was all too familiar with that look he had because I've reached many turning points in my life where I told myself "it's a wrap" with some of that things that seem to be robbing me of my peace and happiness. I'm sorry, ImjustAsking, if you can't be happy for Mr. Hollister or empathize with decision to change. I told that brother I would keep him in my prayers and I have - because I know the temptations are strong and overpowering. Lift Dave up in prayer instaed of tearing him down! As for your contempt towards Kirk Franklin, let it go...

Comment: ImJustAsking, hopefully I can shine a little light on the subject. The word of God says that if any man is in Christ (meaning totally submerged in the things of God, allowing the Holy Spirit to rest rule and abide in his life) he is a new creature, old things are past away and behold all things become new. When true conversion comes, there is no straddling the fence, the attitude is for God I live and for God I die. The problem is so many, "Christians" have a tendency to try and have one foot in the world and the other in the church. This is why the gospel is not as effective, you can not have it both ways. And because Dave Hollister truly came to the knowledge of God he knows it is all or nothing. The word of God says there will be many in the last day saying, Lord, (in my own words) we cast out demons in your name, song on BET Gospel with Kanye West, went to church when we could and the Lord will say.....depart from me you workers of iniquity I never knew you. The Lord will bless him and he will use the zeal and the gift God has bestowed upon him to glorify God and when others see that .......... they'll want what he has...... I know because I'm a living witness...... Be blessed

Comment: I STILL listen to "Chicago 85..." at least once a week. That cd was, in my opinion, very underrated. It didn't get any better than "One Woman Man." I am glad that he has turned his life over to something positive, but I will miss his R&B style.

Comment: ImJustAsking, I understand and thought the same thing... couldn't he seperate the "R&B lifestyle" from the music? Not knocking his decision, but he makes it seems as if R&B automatically means hangning in clubs, drinking, getting high, etc.... when in fact that's a personal decision? There are plenty of secular artists that can seperate the two... I have a hard time totally understanding his reasoning.

Comment: I also don't understand how r&b music automatically equals drinking, driving, and drug use. I don't get it but hey it's his life and his choice.

Comment: It's a personal thing for Dave. I don't think he's saying that R&B automatically equals drinking and drug abuse etc. but he knows himself and what can be a temptation for him so his decision is to serve God only! We all have heard stories about the entertainment world not everyone can easily separate the things that are detrimental to us (R. Kelly, Whitney, Maxwell, D'Angelo.....) I applaud you brother Dave. All the best to you.
