Comment: "House Of Payne" was horrible!!! It perpetuated every negative stereotype Black people have worked to overcome (i.e., a mother on crack who steals money from her underage children; a mother & father who stick out their lips and always talk about food; and a nosey neighborhood who comes over in the middle of the night in slippers and a "head rag"). In addition to those negative images, the storyline sucked. Instead of moving forward with better roles and more fulfilling storylines, it seems Mr. Perry chose to make us look like the same fools White America portrayed 40 years ago.

Comment: I can't comment on House of Payne 'cause I haven't watched it...I'm glad to see dude got his money...but you won't see him pull a Chappelle....That muthafuccer ain't walking away...He's gonna fill it to to rim with stereotypes if they tell him to...and Black folks gonna watch...I wonder why they can't have a Black sitcom where Black folks are just naturally funny? Why we gotta always resort to the chitling, collard greens style of comedy?...(Yeah I'm like Sgt Waters, numean?)

Comment: I watched the show in support of Tyler...it had a very boring, slow beginning but got better towards the end. His Madea character is not apart of the show so those comments are completely false that some are making on here. My main issue was that the show looked low budget, but then again, so did The Cosby Show when it first aired! The man is doing big things and I am happy for him. By the time it re-airs, I am sure he will have worked the "kinks" out. Stop the hatin'!!!

Comment: Wow, is HOP as bad as Brandon described??? Since Tyler Perry plays/movies supposively have a (spiritual/inspirational) message... is there one with HOP -- giving TP the benefit of the doubt I'm hoping he wouldn't have such outlandishness characters for no reason... but for the laugh track.

Comment: My sentiments exactly B00TANEB00TUS in regards to Tyler dressing as a woman, it is played and stereotypical. I know many of us who have grands and great grands who take great pride in their appearance. I am NOT a Tyler fan and am always thrilled for anyone who is doing well but Tyler is now in a prime position to put out quality material instead of buffoonery. If what Brandon stated is true about HOP, then I am not looking forward to watching but then again, I might take a peak because Allen Payne is FFINNEE !!!!!

Comment: >Branddon, nycGYRL888: Had to chime in on this. The show did suck in the beginning and came off as very coonish, but it improve with each episode. It seems like many Black shows(and musicians) purposely project a stereotypical image just to draw viewers in. Either they raise the bar or lower it. Anyway, I look forward to House of Pain coming back to TV.

Comment: I accidentally saw HOP one day when I was looking for one of my regular shows and it had been preempted for this garbage. I didn't know what show it was or that it was TP's. It looked like it was done on my budget instead of Tyler Perry's. The writing sucked and the acting made you want to find the nearest window and jump. Thumbs down!

Comment: Okay y'all I got the opportunity to see HOP here in MD. They played all the episodes in a marathon and I don't see what you all are seeing. Gemami taken in the context meant, it's not a bad show. The girl is a recovering crackhead trying to reconnect with her two kids. Allen Payne is their father and too through with the mother because of all she put him through. The mother and father that are the jokesters. The nosey neighbor is the only one I don't understand simply because none of the Payne family has put her in her place. She's flamboyant as hell for an older woman. I think given time it will shape up to be another entertaining show on that station.

Comment: I don't think anyone made comments about Madea being in House of Pain. I like Tyler Perry's inspirational messages but I'm tired of the man dressing up as a woman. I'm tired of black buffonery. I'm tired of seeing us act as if we had no sense. The male character on Girlfriends is a very funny actor who I think needs to get more work. I want to see black comedy that can stand up to the likes of The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Frazer (excellent writing). I'm sure many of us know people who are funny without intending to be funny. I thought Roc was a good show when it was on and the lead character (ROC) was a great actor.
I'm sure Tyra Banks is happy for her man doing so well. Is it true that they're getting married?

Comment: the quality of the writing is poor....the dialogue is TV dialogue...it's TP's version of STage dialogue......the way it is shot is as if we were watching a stage play....the acting--same thing......the set is good...except the establishing shot of the house (Exterior) was always too static.....have some cars go by and some people go by.......

short lived show on cbs called under one roof.starring james earl jones, joe
morton and vanessa bell calloway.and let me not forget the late merlin santana fm.the steve harvey show.now
under one roof was a great, great drama
and the story lines were fantastic.a lot of folks still talk about that show
and gabriels fire, which was another show that james earl jones starred in.
let's not forget city of angels that
starred blair underwood and viveca fox.
all of the wonderful dramas that reped
us in a positive way are now all gone.
even those shows that had diversity like courthouse starring jenifer lewis.
100 centre st.starring latanya richardson.laughter is wonderful to have.but it would be nice to show the
dramatic side of our people.peace and

Comment: I have a problem with us (Black folks) being accepting of the buffoon roles. Our White counterparts have a balance - they have stupid folks on sitcoms, but they also have not so stupid sitcoms, so there's a balance. We seem to lack that same balance. I'm happy for Tyler Perry. He's the first Black person to ever have such a great deal. But, it's insulting that he has chosen to use his new found power to berate us (as a people). Sitcoms are meant to be funny - and we all enjoy a good laugh every now & again, but sometimes taking a stand is better than allowing yourself to be the village idiot. Someone needs to send him an exclusive copy of Spike Lee's film "Bamboozled", perhaps he'll learn a thing or two.

Comment: gingerg: I've read (not sure how true all of them are) a number of stories that they are more than friends. I read one article where one of Tyra's friend said if they have a baby they'll have to call it "Ty Ty". I was a bit surprised because I thought she was engaged to that Italian basketball player. When Tyra had Tyler on her show she kept making references to how much time they spent together, that he met her mom, she met his family and I hear that when he has plays when she can she goes to see him.

Comment: I watched all the episodes aired. It most certainly got better in the end. I think the drug abuse story line was handled well enough. She wasn't like Smokey from Friday. She was a mother struggling with substance abuse. Believe it or not it is more common than we would like to believe. I think Tyler did most of the work himself. Now that he has a network backing him I assume the quality of the show will improve greatly. He's made millions of dollars because of his dedicated fans. If you aren't one of them I'm sure he isn't losing any sleep over it.
