Comment: Thank God she's doing it. My mom and sister have been diagnosed with diabetes within the past two years.
It is a dangerous and deadly disease that can be managed with proper care, exercise, nutrition and medication.

Comment: Patti Labelle lost all of her sisters before they turned 40, I believe to diabetes. So sad that Mrs. Vandross lost her children like that. Your health is sooooooo important. We as black people really, really need to watch what we eat, because traditionally, we have eaten foods that are really not for our body types and made those foods into gourmet meals, when they are not. You will loose your life if you don't watch what you put in your temple - and we already know that obesity is huge in our communities. Here in L.A., you can see some of the most overweight black people you have ever seen, cause we don't really have the type of winters that we have to where big coats and boots, so, we are exposed all year long, so, you see what's walking up and down the streets here all the time, and, it ain't always a pretty sight.

Comment: >missgee - my condolences to you on the loss of your family members. High blood pressure runs on my mother's side of the family, and two of my mom's sisters died; one at 36 from HBP, and the other in her mid 50's to diabetes and a stroke. I'm doing my best to change my eating habits and eat healthier foods everyday. I even started steaming vegetables and eating a different one for breakfast everyday. I cook them, put them in my bag and bring them to work and sit at my desk eating hot vegetables; especially the darker colored ones, because they are the ones with the most antioxidant benefits in them. So many have died premature deaths from various illnesses, and the bible say's that we are promised three score and ten, meaning a score represents 20, if by strength, again, meaning, if your health is what it should be, but, so sadly, many don't make 70, or 80 for that matter these days. If you die before 60 years of age you were robbed of your life, from something; somehow, the enemy got in and was able to take advantage of something you didn't know to do, and there is nothing God can do about it, because he created us with a free will, so, people, don't be "destroyed for a lack of knowledge."

Comment: It's all about a lifestyle change. Once you get used to eating better and taking at least a half hour walk a day you'll see your body release the excess and if you are diligent in your efforts you can back up off the diabetes and heart ailments. You don't have to cut anything from your diet but you do have to eat in moderation. Gluttony being a sin and with as many 'christians' as there are on this board - it should be easy.

Comment: I wish it were that easy, but, being that we are still in a flesh body, it always wants to pull you away into something that's not good for you; so, your spirit wants to do whats right, and your flesh always wants "fried chicken" instead of "baked skin free chicken." lol

Comment: I agree with you Gurlfrand, we have to better in regards to out health. I've lost family members and loved ones to diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer. It is hard to eat the right way after sooooo many years of not eating the right way but it is necessary to prolong your life. I knew when Lutha passed that he was the youngest and the last surviving child of Mrs. Mary Ida Vandross. That's sad she has outlived all her children and one of her grandchildren. No, it is not easy to change habits of a lifetime but it can be done. Take small steps. Make small changes. After some time, add to the steps and changes to better your health. I started doing this in January and it has helped. I am not at my goal yet but I feel taking the slow route will get me there and keep me there as opposed to doing it fast, losing it fast and gaining it back.....plus fast.

Comment: CTFU at McNasty, and Lord knows we have an abundance of Christians and perfectionists. I thought of LV the other day. I think of him most everyday, but also he had high blood pressure as well and I still say to this day if someone had the key to his house to check on him on the regular, he would have at least had a chance. I so miss him.

Comment: Hey Mothership! You know I keep asking why no one had a key and why with all the folk that called him friend no one stopped by to check or to visit. Everytime I hear Here and Now I get misty.

Comment: I can't fool myself, I don't want nobody else to ever love me
You are my shinin' star, my guiding light, my love fantasy
There's not a minute, hour, day or night that I don't love you
You're at the top of my list 'cause I'm always thinkin' of you
I still remember in the days when I scared to touch you
How I spent my day dreamin' plannin' how to say I love you
You must have known that I had feelings deep enough to swim in
That's when you opened up your heart and you told me to come in
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
Too much, never too much, never too much, never too much

Comment: MOTHERSHIP > I thought of him the other day too, when "Any Love" was playing on my ipod. Luther has never been able to openly love and that made me sad.
