Comment: shala, this was a resport that Peter Jennings had started and since his death, I guess it was sitting on the shelf. The reporter last night decided to finish the work that Peter started. It opened up at MegaFest in Atlanta Ga that's hosted by TD Jakes. The reporter stated that not once was the subject of AIDS mentioned during the gathering, that was prodominately black. He goes on to give stats and tell of the how AIDS has become a Black disease and how 70% of the new cases are black women. He reviewed drug use...dirty/shared needles, jail (cases there are 5 times higher), sex, government failure, ignorgance among the leaders as the reasons why it's so high in our culture. I think he said there are about 85 black men for every 100 marriaged aged women, that fact alone increases the spread because men have multiple partners. The cases of AIDS are spreading faster in small black Southern cities, they focused on a small NC town, Williamston.

Comment: A SPECIAL REPORT: "RIO DE JANIERO, BRAZIL" by Myra Panache Since I was a young child, I always had an fascination with Brazil, especially, after I viewed the film "Black Orpheus," with subtitles. This is the "only black movie" in history to win the "Cannes Film" festival award for best movie in 1959. One of my good friends, Juliet Reagh aka Jenna Persaud actress/former centerfold (pictured above) is also Brazilian. Recently, "Essence Magazine," did an article, titled, "Blame It On Rio." The article is based on sex tours involving a large number of African-American men from the United States. These men book tours to Brazil through a travel agency and they hookup with beautiful Brazilian women during their stay. Let's flip the script and talk about African-American women who go to Brazil for business and whatever else.

Name: MyThoughts
Comment: Ladies, Brazil is the only country in the world where the men are just as beautiful as the women. If your preference is light-skinned or dark skinned men, this is the place for you. You have everything from Rick Fox types to Calvin Lockhart types and these men love professional African-American women and they are very attentive. Bahia is the hot spot for visiting black women and the cess pool of beautiful men is jaw-dropping. Juliet taught me about Brazilian customs and she taught me a few words of Portuguese prior to my visit. I love to study languages in my spare time but this language is considered the hardest language in the world to learn. I was able to get by, because Portuguese is similiar to Spanish. Upon my arrival, I went to a function and was introduced to a striking Brazilian couple, Jeff and Clu (pronounced Clue). Jeff could speak english, Clu couldn't. We traded numbers. Later that evening, I went to the beach with friends and admired this tropical paradise. I never would have made the trip a few years earlier because crime was so rampant. Tourists were discouraged from taking cameras on the beach because you may get a knife at your throat and robbed. Tourists were also warned not to carry a purse or a wallet on public transportation. The country was losing tourism dollars and the police cracked down on crime. When I returned to the States, Jeff and Clu called, he translated everything for her. Sometimes she called solo with a bi-lingual operator on the line to translate. Once, when I was speaking to both of them, I commented that I planned to return to Brazil and to check into my favorite hotel, Jeff translated and he and Clu seemed upset when we hung-up. When I shared this news with Juliet, she said, they were probably upset because Brazilian custom dictates, since I associate with them via telephone, I am to stay with them whenever I return to Brazil. When they settled down and called back, they confirmed what Juliet said. Brazil has become one of my favorite travel destinations and I write installments for the "Ballin" series while I'm on vacation in Rio. Check it out, you'll love it!

Comment: Usher reprimanded music mogul Clive Davis when the record boss' mobile phone went off during his Broadway premiere of "Chicago" on Tuesday night. Usher recognized Davis' trademark ring all the way from the stage and confronted him at the after-show party. Usher joked, "Give me your phone!" Basketball superstar Vince Carter and his wife Dr. Ellen Carter have begun divorce proceedings. The couple have a 1-year old daughter. Singer Cassie credits P. Diddy with her new found confidence on stage, insisting she'll never care what others think of her again. The shy star recently admitted her live performances have been lackluster and claims she was too self-conscious to feel comfortable singing in front of crowds. She says, "I would hold back a lot because I didn't want to look or feel weird around people but Diddy taught me to let go. Cassie also reveals that Jamie Foxx is the most famous name in her cell phone adding, "I didn't even ask for his number. He gave it to me!"

Comment: We all know about the disagreements Luther Vandross had with tour mates Anita Baker and En Vogue but did you know this: Anita Baker and Luther Vandross had cooled off significantly since the "Heat" tour, several years earlier. They talked and came to terms with their former grievances. Luther admitted, it always bothered him that she wouldn't sing a duet with him, Baker apologized for not explaining to him about her pregnancy (at the time). Luther understood and felt that what they needed to do was record a duet to squash all the talk they they hated each other. He suggested they pair their voices on a cover of Ben E. King's "I (Who Have Nothing," Anita thought it was a good idea and agreed to do it. However, on the day they were scheduled to record in Los Angeles, she was nowhere to be found. "She simply didn't show up," Luther said. Their up-and-down relationship had once again taken a fall. Instead, Vandross recorded the duet with Martha Walsh. Things got so bad on tour with En Vogue, that a curtain was put up to separate them and Luther. While on tour with Miami, Luther saw that a member of En Vogue had wandered over to "his side" of the drawn curtain. His temper hit full-tilt and he "actually" called the Miami police to demand the group be charged with trespassing.

Comment: TAZ, yes, it certainly was an eye opener! YLawdY, Peter Jennings had sat down with a group of men who were infected by various ways. This one man said he had to tell his wife that he was positive, they were married for 16 yrs. and he was on the DL. The wife was in denial, refused to take her meds and died. Another guy was positive, but was scared to tell his new girlfriend and ended up infecting her, I think his infection came from drug use. This young girl in Williamston was infected by her baby's daddy, he died a few years ago and was married with kids. The reporter spoke with TD Jakes and asked him why he didn't approach the subject at MegaFest. The reporter and others he spoke with was saying that the black church would have to start talking about it in the pulpit.

Comment: Good Friday Morning Everybody! NEW YORK (Aug. 25) - New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin criticized efforts to redevelop the World Trade Center site when confronted in a television interview about delays in rebuilding his city after Hurricane Katrina. During the "60 minutes" interview, a correspondent pointed out flood-damaged cars still on the streets of New Orleans' devastated Ninth Ward. Nagin replied, "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair," according to CBS. The program is scheduled to air Sunday night. Text and a video clip from the Nagin piece were posted on CBS' Web site Thursday. The chairman of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., the agency created to oversee the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and downtown Manhattan, said that tremendous progress has been made in lower Manhattan, with the Freedom Tower, a transportation hub and a memorial to the nearly 3,000 attack victims under construction. "We understand how difficult rebuilding a city after such destruction can be," chairman Kevin Rampe said in a statement. Nagin, known for his blunt style, is not the first to compare the two cities. New Orleans residents frequently complain that the federal government's response after Katrina has been far more sluggish than it was after the Sept. 11 attacks. Nagin is confident New Orleans will be whole again and will even be able to withstand another hurricane of Katrina strength, pointing out that taller and stronger levees are being built. It will take time. "We’re into a five-to-seven-year build cycle … . At the end of the day, I see the city being totally rebuilt. I see us eliminating blight, still being culturally unique," Nagin says.

Name: Jacque
Comment: One example of new development Nagin points to is a 68-story Trump Towers condominium complex, a project that makes some critics wary that New Orleans will lose the heritage that made it unique. "I think you are looking at basically a town that will be a playground for the rich for the next 40 years," Leonard Moore, a professor of African-American history at Louisiana State University, tells Pitts. "I look at the post-Katrina piece as a game of musical chairs….Once the music gets turned off, the white folks have a place to sit down, a place to sleep, a place for their children to go to school. We’re going back to a trailer." Nagin says he is looking out for the poor, mostly black, residents who are dispersed all over the country, some of whom are waiting to return to the city. "What I do have a problem with is some entrenched interests that are looking and salivating over certain sections of the city," Nagin says. The mayor says these interests want him to keep those poor people from coming back so they can get rich developing the land. "I don’t think that’s right," Nagin says. But before any rebuilding can take place, the clean-up and restoration of the city’s infrastructure must be complete and it will be Mayor Nagin, recently re-elected, who leads the efforts. "Should things have happened quicker? Yes. But everyone has their own style of leadership, and right now our political leader, our political father is Ray Nagin," says Oliver Thomas, New Orleans City Council president. (Compiled from reports by the Associated Press and CBS)

Comment: Good Morning Kings & Queens and Happy T.G.I.F.! Dangit, I forgot to watch Primetime last night! I hate I missed that. I would've watched it with my kids.

Name: StormyMonday
Comment: bigchassie, I think many are afraid to say, if you're gonna do it at least be safe about it. They don't want to advocate pre-maritial sex, but the reality of it is not every young girl and young boy will save themselves for marriage. There use to be a time, if sex was mentioned it was about young girls getting pregnant, well now that should be the least of our worries. These days the girl could bring back more than a baby. It seems to me, it's better to be safe than sorry. I remember when I got pregnant and went to tell my Pastor's wife, I felt so bad at it. This was her first question to me and it shocked me: "Do you want to keep this baby?" I was like "huh", she said if you don't want to keep it, you don't have to, we can take care of it and no one will have to know. After I told her I wanted to keep the baby, she told me to stop feeling bad about it because it could be worse, I could have AIDS instead. From that point on, she was always cool with me, I could talk to her about any and everything.

Comment: StormyMonday, I watched Primetime last night too. It was interesting to see the Peter Jennings interview of those Brothas (notice that the one with the FLASHY blue zoot suit never said anything...OR he was PORTRAYED as if he never said anything?). What disturbed me is the N.C. piece and how many "cancer" deaths were a masquerade of HIV. If that is true, it would be an explaination as to why I've seen an increase within the past 5 years of an epidemic of death from cancer in my hometown...and there are quite a few gay Black pastors, too!

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Why isn't there more of an outcry at that Peter Jennings roundtable? Two of those men LIED and infected their loved ones! And for what? To preserve their manhood? The women believed they were in monogamous relationships. If nothing else, why didn't the brothers just say they couldn't be in the relationship anymore and just walk away without infecting the person they claimed to love? That should be a wake-up call for Black women everywhere.

Comment: sigmascribe, he said something about it not being discussed in the Bible, so he didn't know how to introduce it in the pulpit. He said he thinks other Pastor's feel the same way, they just don't know how to talk about it. Of course, his answer didn't sit well with me, I had to repent because I said to myself while watching him "N, please, ya'll know how to talk about EVERYTHING else!". I look at it like this if preacher's can stand up there and talk about homosexuality, they can speak about AIDS! And if you don't know, pick up a book, research it on the computer, don't say "well, Peter didn't discuss it in the Bible", sweet Jesus when he said that he sounded ignorant and I really enjoy watching TD "Get ready, get ready, get ready" Jakes.

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: >Sigmascribe: Here's how I understood Bishop Jakes' comment: I heard him say that there were no specific scriptures that spoke directly about to AIDS (although I believe one could parallel the plight and isolation of people w/the disease w/leprosy). Jakes also said that AIDS is but one of MANY ISSUES that plague the Black Community. Another interviewee (Pastor Eugene from Boston) said that "busyiness" should not prevent Black folk from talking about AIDS directly, esp. since it is affecting Black folk so dramatically.

Comment: NYC officials want new 'Survivor' pulled NEW YORK - As CBS prepares to launch a new season of the hit reality show "Survivor," this time featuring teams divided by race, enraged city officials are saying it promotes divisiveness and are calling for the network to reconsider. "The idea of having a battle of the races is preposterous," City Councilman John Liu said Thursday. "How could anybody be so desperate for ratings?" For the first portion of the 13th season of "Survivor," which premieres Sept. 14, the contestants competing for the $1 million prize while stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific will be divided into four teams - blacks, Asians, Latinos and whites. Liu, who is Asian-American, said he was launching a campaign urging CBS to pull the show because it could encourage racial division and promote negative typecasts. He and a coalition of officials, including the council's black, Latino and Asian caucus, planned to rally at City Hall on Friday. In a statement, CBS Entertainment, which is part of New York-based CBS Corp., defended the ethnic twist, saying it follows the show's tradition of introducing new creative elements and casting structures that reflect cultural and social issues. "CBS fully recognizes the controversial nature of this format but has full confidence in the producers and their ability to produce the program in a responsible manner," the statement said. "'Survivor' is a program that is no stranger to controversy and has always answered its critics on the screen." Last season, the show divided contestants into groups of older men, younger men, older women and younger women. The show's host, Jeff Probst, said the network was aware this season's race ploy might offend viewers. "It's very risky because you're bringing up a topic that is a hot button," he told asap, The Associated Press service for younger readers. "There's a history of segregation you can't ignore. It is part of our history. "For that, it's much safer to say, 'No, let's just stick with things the way they are. Let's don't be the network to rock the boat. Let's not have "Survivor" try something new,'" he said. "But the biases from home can't affect you. This is an equal opportunity game."

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Hey, StormyMonday...no problem. Clearly that one dude that asked that question was talking to women who were serious DENIAL. Possibly because of the men-to-women shortage (the program said that there's 85 men to every 100 women). It just sounds so depressing that I have to do a series of medical, mental, financial (uh-oh! LOL!) screenings on a brother before I let them get close. So even if you're crazy, poor or a thief, the medical screening cannot be skipped over. Is it too much to ask for test dates and documentation on official letterhead of test results? (Smirk and shrug)

Comment: I think every Pastor that has a congregation need to have a Sunday or a couple of Sunday's where they talk about HIV and AIDS. Research it and talk about it. Put it out there, have a roundtable about it. It was upsetting to see those Black men sitting around talking about their life and how they infected their women. That one guy said he felt bad, he11 he should have felt horrible. Crack isn't in the bible but a lot of Preachers talk about drug addiction in their communities on Sunday mornings. I just don't get it. I was kinda of embarrassed that Primetime had to have a whole hour to discuss the black plight of ignorance on AIDS and BET or TV1 haven't or if they have, I haven't heard or seen it on their shows. We as a Race of Strong and Beautiful People have to take care of ourselves and our Children. Educate Educate Educate. Oh Yeah, I miss Peter Jennings and I noticed he did look a little sick while in was doing that interview.

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Tazbaby, you're right about pulpits needing to speak directly about this issue. Maybe the Primetime Live special will cultivate this conversation. That's why I cannot be embarrassed by the report. It gets people talking. Even the anchor said that the media missed this story of AIDS running close to rampant in the Black community. If this special had not aired, then Black folk would have been whining that the media doesn't cover relevant stories in the Black community. Tt seems like the media, in this instance, is damned if they do and damned if they don't. What we should be embarrassed about is the fact that many Black media outlets have not given more attention to this issue. And I understand that BET has done some kind of special on it (but I don't have cable so I wouldn't know for sure). But today can be a new start. It will be interesting to hear what the sermons will be about this coming Sunday. And hey, even if the sermon is not about the AIDS epidemic, just let it be a sermon anointed by the Lord. Amen and Hallelujah!

Comment: TAZ, I was thinking last night, I need to buy a box of condoms and a cucumber (I guess) and teach my daughter how to apply it. I would hope and pray that she would wait, but just in case, there's no need to sacrifice her life 'cause mama was ignorant.

Name: blackdiamondleo
Comment: MY PASTOR WAS THE INNOVATOR OF AIDS AWARENESS IN THE CHURCHES HERE IN NY. NO ONE WANTED TO DEAL WITH IT. BUT HE WENT AROUND TALKING TO THOSE WHO WERE WILLING TO LISTEN. THEN THE PROGRAMS BEGAN SPROUTING UP. IT'S DOCUMENTED ABOUT HIM.

Name: OSUN
Comment: I dont know why Pastors and churches wont discuss the Aids epidemic. It is evident that we are having premarital sex, just look around the pews at the big bellies on the teenage girls at church. I think some think it would promote "fornication". They need to wake up especially the mega churches because your congregations participate in sexual activity. You can promote abstinence while encouraging those who partake to use two or more condoms.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: BLACKDIAMOND>hunny, Melinda is in the big time now. She is in the movie, Idlewild.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: it's just so strange to me that the pulpit is not really stressing the importance of how AIDS is spreading in the black population where half of the men in the congreation is gay or bisexual. i also think about J L King's book on the DL. he talks a lot about it in his book.

Name: StormyMonday
Comment: blackdiamondleo, that's great that your Pastor is raising awareness! About Melinda Williams, I haven't watched Windfall since that girl got shot. I record it faithfully each week though, one weekend I plan on watching all those episodes so I can catch up.

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Osun, I hear you but how can a pastor with any kind of sense (for lack of a better word) CONTRADICT the Bible by giving some form of permissibility via the usage of condoms for the act of fornication? I get your point that to maximize safety and protection from disease, my goodness, use them rubbers! But on the other hand, should the pastors "adjust" on the content of the Word because people's (DISOBEDIENT) lifestyle choices are causing them harm?

Name: QueenCityBee
Comment: Mawning..itsjustmeyall..My white party was the bomb! Lets have some fun. We already did quotes from movies, lets quotes some of these crazy lyrics that outthere. What is "my gurl got a gurl" and "don't nobody live with my mama but a bunch of junkies" One of my favorites is Sunshine Anderson with the classic line. "I was @ work..it wasn't my car you saw" LIAR!!

Name: Dovelyone
Comment: Bigchassie... now you know HALF of the men in the church/congregation are NOT gay or bisexual. That's quite a sweeping generalization. I cannot believe that I'm in that much denial. And I'll say this as well: if that much of the men in the congregation is gay or bi, then look to the leadership. Like people, like priest (Hosea 4:9). I can say for certainty that at my church, my pastor DOES NOT PLAY THAT AT ALL, because they will get run out of the church, if you will, based on the preaching and teaching, not out of condemnation, esp. if they want to continue in that lifestyle. And I think we understand somebody who may be "struggling" and are making a conscious decision to want to end living that practice. And I don't want to turn this into the debate about being born gay or bi. That's a separate conversation.

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Dovelyone, you ae right. I am not embarrassed that they were talking about Blacks and AIDS, I was embarrassed that we as a People haven't jumped up and said enough to get the awareness out there about our people, why does a Pank Station with Pank reporters have to do it. Jesse Jackson, interviewed and looked like a deer in headlights. I have a strong feeling that if Malcom X and MLK was here this would be discussed constantly. I am happy to have so many Black people at the forefront getting the word out and helping those that are infected. >>>Stormy do it baby gurl because we have to teach our babies. I also think in this day and age it is crazy for anyone to think that fornication isn't going to happen with our young, It is because it happen when I was a teenager, hence my almost 33 year old daughter and I am 49.

Name: SpecialK
Comment: Good Mortink! blackdiamond: I watch Windfall and have only seen Malinda Williams in probably three or four episodes. She's not on screen for very long but I like that show.

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Dovelyone, I think in the 21st Century in the year 2006 that Pastors need to reinterate what the Bible says about Fornication but also let the congretion know that God knows and He knows that folks are still in the world and of the flesh and since most are, please protect yourself and wear condoms female/male condoms because this AIDS epidemic is no joke. Pray People Pray.

Name: OSUN
Comment: Dovelyone, I recognize the conflict. But they address conflicting issues in the church all the time. My pastor doesnt come right out and say married couples use birth control but he does say family planning is important. Actions that conflict the word of God run rampant in the church congregation and the church staff including the pastor himself. Telling people to wrap it up if you fornicate doesn't seem contrary to the bible. It is just a simple statement...if you are going to participate in behavior that you know is contrary to the word and your health, be as safe as possible.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: DOVEYLOVE>ok, maybe i may be over estimating but now days, to be honest, you just don't know. and the bottom line is, you got to be careful who you deal with. that is why it needs to be addressed to the black community as a whole.

Mom: Black Kids Sent to Back of Bus By DOUG SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer Thu Aug 24, 9:57 PM COUSHATTA, La. - A Louisiana school district suspended a white bus driver while it investigates complaints that she ordered nine black children to sit at the back of the bus. No previous complaints have been lodged against the driver, who has worked several years for the Red River Parish school district, school Superintendent Kay Easley said Thursday. She refused to reveal the driver's name. "I'm trying to get all this straight, and settled, so we can all move on," Easley said. Two mothers, both black, sparked the investigation with a complaint on Monday that their children and the other black children had been ordered to sit in two rows of seats in the rear of the bus. "In all these years, I've never had a problem like this," said Janice Williams, whose four children ride public school buses. One of her children, Jarvonica Williams, 16, said the bus driver allowed many white students to have seats all to themselves while some blacks were forced to stand or sit in others' laps. Iva Richmond, whose 14- and 15-year-old children were on the bus, said Thursday that they previously had a black bus driver, but their bus assignment changed this year. When school started this month, the white driver told them she had assigned them seats, with the black children at the back of the bus. Richmond said she complained to a local principal, who told the driver that if any children were assigned to seats, all would have to be. Early last week, the driver assigned black students to two seats in the back of the bus, Richmond said. "All nine children were assigned to two seats in the back of the bus and the older ones had to hold the smaller ones in their laps," she said. The women said their complaints to parish school officials were not immediately addressed. Easley said she wanted to settle the matter. She said the driver had been suspended without pay, and she would announce the results of the district's investigation at a school board meeting on Sept. 5. NAACP District Vice President James Panell told The Times of Shreveport that he would give federal attorneys details of the situation this week. Coushatta is a small farming town in northern Louisiana. The school district has about 1,600 students, Easley said.

Comment: I cosign w/all of y'all on lookin' out for number 1, from wearing condoms to "denying the scratch of an itch", if you know what I mean. We ALL need more self control! Sigmascribe, I think there are two parts to the church discussion about the topic: there's the health/physical aspect and then there's the moral/spiritual/religious aspect. We have physicians at my church who have given presentations and held discussions about sex and protection and the consequences of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. I think we need more accountability across the board.

Name: letmein
Comment: I can see it being a conflict with the church, but that's where we, as parents, need to step in. I told my 17 year old daughter that it's "ideal" for her to wait until she married. BUT, that I KNOW for a fact, that it doesn't always happen. I still gave her condoms and put her on the pill. NOT TO CONDONE BUT TO PROTECT!!! She's still a virgin, THANK GOD, but I was honest and told her that she made it longer than me! LOL!!!

Comment: I don't see it as contradicting the Bible to educate parishoners on the dangers of AIDS. The pastor doesn't have to say God said use a rubber. But common sense and social responsibility dictates that any and everyone in a position to reach and educate people do so. That includes each and everyone of us discussing this topic. We owe it to our children, nieces, nephews, etc. to make sure they are getting the correct information from somewhere. The church is a good place to start, but keep in mind a lot of the folks that need the knowledge most aren't in church.

Name: StormyMonday
Comment: letmein, see that's the difference, I think if the Pastor puts it out there, the parents need to pick the conversation up at home. I think if you tell your child, "look I don't want you to do it, but as a safety measure you need to know how to protect yourself".

Now that Chilltown is really wanting Janelle on their side, where does that leave Danielle (who is supposed to be with Chilltown and their Legion of Doom, but look what happened to James). More interesting will be the double eviction next week.

I HATE THAT SHEYATT!!!!

Comment: YLY, the contradition isn't in educating parishoners about AIDS, but the Bible is clear about engaging in sexual activities outside of marriage, so if you're not having sex outside of marriage, then why the need to use condoms? And I understand the realities that there are people who are faithful in church attendance who do engage in sexual activities outside of marriage, and some of those activities are more harmful than others. And so by all means, encourage wisdom and self protection. I suppose the next question is this: is the pastor ever "off the hook" when he or she has said and done all he or she should say and do and yet some of the congregants still come up pregnant or infected (from unwise sexual activity)? Where does personal accountability come in?

Comment: I too saw the Primetime special on AIDS in the black community last night and it was both enlightening and discouraging. It's obvious that our leaders have not done enough about the issue and still seem ill prepared to tackle this issue, even though so many blacks are dying, but it must be addressed. the statistics are horrible and it is truly alarming that the focus in only only AIDS in Africa but not here in America. I vaguely remember back in the 80's when ACT UP and other organizations rallied for more focus on AIDS ,when it was affecting more white gay men.now that it is affecting so many blacks, especially women, there is silence. and that has got to change.it's a shame that ABC rather than BET produced this special but I'm still glad nonetheless that the message is out there. bottom line is,though, will it change people's behavior? how many black women ask to see an AIDS test before getting sexually involved with a man? Or rather choose to go be abstinent ?

Comment: I work for one of the top AIDS Reseacher's in the world and believe me when I say, they are really over exaggerating the stats on AIDS being the number killer of black women and in our community. Its not true! I'm not saying its not a problem but its not nearly what they claim it is. Diabetes kills more of us than AIDS in America. In Africa its something entirely different. I've learned alot working where I do and this is my personal opinion from all the confidential reports I read. The World Health Organization needed to find a cure and fast for AIDS when it first hit because in the beginning, it was wiping out white men literally so, what better people to do experimental research on than unsuspecting, unknowing Africans. I read a report once where they were injecting these unsuspecting people who saw their husbands and other family members dying of this unknown diease, just watching a person with AIDS with no treatment die is like nothing you couldn't possible imagine. So after seeing family members and friends die such a horrible death, these people are told to take these injections and then they won't become sick, well guess what the injections were? The AIDS virus. You have to keep in mind 90% of African people that have the virus have no access hypodermic needles, blood transfusions, STD's or general information on AIDS, most can't read and all they know is they don't want to suffer so they take this injection. Can they identify the person that gave them the injection, absolutely not. Yes, we do need to practice safe sex but think about it this way, everytime, there is a health crisis, its always blacks have a higher rate of everything.

Comment: The church should talk about AIDS. Our black men/women are dying needlessly while they leave behind children that have noone to guide them. If we do not educate our kids on these issues chances are that they will be in big trouble as far as their sexual health is concerned. And we all know that pookie on the corner only wants to get into our daughters pants with no regard to her health at all. Next thing you know she's pregnant with an itch that can only be cured with antibiotics, or much worse, a case of HIV. Why are we so scared to talk to our own children about sex? God entrusted us with these gems and we should do everything in our power to protect and educate them. In an ideal world all we would have to do is tell our kids to wait until marriage to have sex, but they don't always do as we say. So what do we do? One thing we can do is (as someone said a few posts up) buy a cucumber and some condoms and teach our sons and daughters how to use them correctly.

Comment: Aaliyah's undying fame Star beloved 5 yrs. after plane crash BY KATHLEEN LUCADAMO DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER It was five years ago today that fans were rocked by the tragic death of Aaliyah, but the Brooklyn-born songstress is far from forgotten. "Her passing was probably the hardest out of all the people we lost in the hip-hop world," said Mister Cee, a deejay at Hot 97 (WQHT-FM), who is hosting an hour-long tribute to the angelic-faced singer during his "Throwback at Noon" show today. "I just want listeners to know we haven't forgotten her. It's keeping her spirit alive," the deejay said. Aaliyah was only 22 when she and eight others were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas, where she had been shooting a video. The twin-engine plane was overloaded by 700 pounds when it went up in flames. Investigators also found cocaine and alcohol in the pilot's system. While her untimely death was mourned as an easily preventable tragedy, her farewell was a carefully planned extravaganza. The star-studded funeral - marked by dozens of pink roses, white doves and over a thousand guests - attracted the likes of Sean (Diddy) Combs, Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim. A glass-paneled hearse drawn by two horses carried her body, housed in a silver-plated coffin, from the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home on the upper East Side to services at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on Park Ave. Shortly before her death, Aaliyah was nominated for a Grammy award for her song "Try Again." She also appeared in the film "Romeo Must Die" and was a niece of iconic soul singer Gladys Knight.

Comment: Pop idol spills beans with J-Lo baby news By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 08/25/2006 Tween idol Jesse McCartney's new pop album is appropriately titled "Right Where You Want Me." At an appearance Thursday morning in-studio at Star 94, the 19-year-old was right where Steve McCoy and Vikki Locke wanted him. At the center of a celebrity stork report. In an otherwise innocuous interview, McCartney disclosed that he is dating actress Katie Cassidy, daughter of baby boomer teen idol David Cassidy. He then spilled that his gal pal has been cast as Lucy Ewing in the big-screen adaptation of the 1970/1980s TV soap "Dallas." Then Locke inquired, "Oh, so I bet your girlfriend can give us the scoop on why Jennifer Lopez was fired from the movie?" Without thinking, McCartney replied, "She didn't get fired. She's pregnant." Oops. J-Lo and hubby Marc Anthony haven't exactly made that news public yet. Locke reports that McCartney then looked nervously over at his female handler and quickly changed the subject. "It was kind of a 'Oops, what did I just do?' moment," Locke told Buzz. "It quickly became 'Can we just talk about the record?' When the microphones were off, he just looked at the woman with him and asked, 'Was I not supposed to say anything?" "Right Where You Want Me" arrives in stores Sept. 19.McCoy and Locke will re-air the interview between 6 and 7 a.m. today.

Comment: EMan Pleads Guilty in 'Babyface' Extortion Case INDIANAPOLIS — A man claiming to be Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds' illegitimate son will spend six months in a halfway house after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor intimidation charge for trying to extort $9 million from the Grammy-winning musician. John Travis Clark, 24, also was sentenced to six months probation as part of the plea agreement filed Thursday in Marion Superior Court. Clark, who has already spent 98 days in jail since his arrest in May, was charged this spring after he contacted an attorney for the singer and threatened to go public with his story. He offered to "keep his mouth shut" in exchange for $20 million, according to court documents. Clark later lowered his demand to $9 million and met with attorney William Briggs at an Indianapolis restaurant on May 19. During the meeting, Clark read and signed a fake but detailed 8-page nondisclosure statement the attorney had drawn up. He then accepted a bogus check for $9 million and was arrested as he left. Clark will get credit toward his sentence for the three months he's spent in jail awaiting a trial.

Comment: Uncle Luke, rapper and coach, looks back By ADRIAN SAINZ, Associated Press Writer Luther Campbell's fame has long been intertwined with raunch. From his days as the leader of the rap outfit 2 Live Crew — whose sexually explicit songs tested the limits of decency all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court — to his solo albums and burgeoning porn business, Campbell is not what you would think of as family friendly. So it may surprise people to see him walk on a neighborhood football field to oversee a bunch of kids in his new National Youth Football League. He has joined forces with the Orange Bowl's youth foundation to create the league, which Campbell hopes will grow beyond his home in Miami-Dade County. On a recent evening, about 750 people were watching the first two games, and almost everybody there knew Campbell; People lined up to take pictures with him and he doled out advice to 10-year-olds wearing helmets and shoulder pads who know him only as Uncle Luke. But there is another side of Uncle Luke — which Campbell details with the recently released "Uncle Luke: My Life & Freaky Times," an audio book which also comes with a CD soundtrack. The tales he tells on the disc are certainly not for children's ears — some adults may not be able to stomach all the exploits he describes in graphic detail. But approve or disapprove of his lyrics and music videos, few can accuse Campbell of holding back or censoring himself. ___

Comment: AP: I told some friends I was going to your house for an interview, and their responses were the same: Don't let the ladies get you! Does perception match reality here? Campbell: There's a time and place for everything. Everybody gets it all twisted. They automatically think, `Oh, I'm going to Luke's house, they're swingin' on the chandeliers.' That's the biggest joke of all time. Not necessarily. I'm a human person just like anybody else, just like Hugh Hefner, just like Larry Flynt, just like anybody else. I do my work. My work is my work and my home is my home. ... When I go out and party, I'm like a grown person who is going to go party and do what they wanna do. Unfortunately, I have a lot of girls with me that go out to these adult establishments and party, and we party hard — I don't take no drugs or nothin' like that — we go and party and we do what we do. AP: How important are youth leagues to kids? Campbell: All of it is really teaching responsibility, real-life issues that we as adults got to deal with, and giving the kids those responsibilities on the field and letting them know, "You are responsible for this area right here and you're responsible for working as a team together and you're responsible for getting your grades in order to get to the point where you can actually get on the field." AP: Borrowing one of your phrases, you're newest CD it's as raunchy as it has always been. And in the audio book, you tell a lot of your stories. Why are you doing this now? Campbell: I did the audio book knowing that a lot of my audience may not necessarily go and pick up the book ... I think it's really important, because I don't think nobody has ever touched on a lot of the history. I'm (looking) on AOL and I see the 25 years of hip-hop, historical moments in hip-hop and me nor 2 Live Crew or nothing I ever did gets mentioned. Then I look on VH1, "VH1 special, 25 years in hip-hop, people who made great things happen." Don't even get a call. AP: So they don't appreciate your contributions? Campbell: They don't appreciate it at all. This whole industry. I look at "Lifetime Achievement Award, BET" — Master P? "Lifetime Achievement Award, Source magazine" — LL Cool J. It's Russell Simmons, Russell Simmons, Russell Simmons. ... Who was the first independent black-owned and operated rap label? Who started this whole thing about wanting to own their own company? None of these stories get told and these kids are getting younger and they're being fed the wrong stuff because the guys from New York and California, they got much more of the big machine behind them and they want to push you, shove you Russell all the time. Russell is a great guy and I've got a lot of respect for him, but it's like he's the only one with any history.

Comment: Man charged in tainted heroin death CHICAGO (AP) -- A reputed gang member was charged Thursday with drug-induced homicide for allegedly selling a fatal batch of fentanyl-laced heroin to a police chief's son, authorities said. Corey Crump, 35, is accused of selling the tainted heroin to 17-year-old Joseph Krecker and was ordered held on $80,000 bond during a court hearing Thursday. Fentanyl is a highly powerful synthetic drug that has caused hundreds of deaths in eight states when combined with heroin. Krecker, whose father is the deputy chief of the Franklin Park Police Department, was found dead inside his vehicle June 6 a short distance from Crump's home, authorities said. Police officials said Thursday that they used phone records and witness statements to link Crump -- a self-admitted member of the Conservative Vice Lords -- to the drugs responsible for Krecker's death. "He sold to the victim as a supplier, causing (the victim's) death," police Sgt. Charles Daly said. Crump is the first person in Illinois to face the charge in relation to the use of the fentanyl-laced drug, authorities said. Since last spring, 185 deaths in Cook County have been linked to tainted heroin, 145 of them in Chicago alone, police said. Jack Krecker said his son first tried heroin in early January and became "a casual weekend user" shortly thereafter. The family became aware of his drug problem in April and he underwent drug treatment.

Comment: This legendary soul man is extremely well known in black communities across the country. In his prime, he had a string of platinum hits and women flocked to his sold-out concerts. He became a household name and he became wealthy in the process. He has been guarded regarding his personal life and he has never discussed his children. What fans don't know: This man has a frightening dark side and that's why he surrounds himself with scandalous women (mainly street hookers or female ex-cons) because if they went to the police on him, it's doubtful anyone would take their word over his. This man has beaten women so brutally through the years, it's surprising that he hasn't killed a woman. Only once, did a magazine (Jet) report on a domestic violence incident regarding him. To appease his family, he married a church woman from his hometown. On the night of the wedding, he presented her with diamond earrings (heir looms) from a close relative. She thought she had married her prince charming. The next morning, for no apparent reason, he started in on her and ended up punching her in the stomach and ripping off the earrings from her ears, leaving her ear lobes bloody in the process. The unprovoked beatings would continue and she lived in fear of her life. She would escape while he was out on the road. This singer has also had run-in's with other artists. One of his background singers got a message regarding a family emergency, when he told the singer, he had to leave the tour because one of his parents was gravely ill, the singer said, you "leave and you're fired." The background singer was stunned but quit on the spot. A soul group who once opened for him, stole the show, in return, he did everything in his power to sabotage them. He made their lives so miserable, they quit the tour. This man is so complexed, he reads the bible and prays constantly despite his demons. Hint: This man is "NOT" James Brown or R. Kelly.

Comment: YLAwdY, what are your feelings about this season of Survivor? I'm all for it, I think it'll be interesting. I know a lot are against the idea and are trying to prevent it being aired.

Name: OSUN
Comment: My true feelings about the segregated Survivor is that they should cancel Survivor period. I hate this show and I am a reality tv junky. They could just extend BB

Name: YLawdY
Comment: My feelings? I think it is socially irresponsible to have a "segregated" reality show. Too much shyt still aint right in this country for us to be all ha ha hee hee about a battle of the races. Didn't we just read about a bus driver segregating kids on the school bus? We don't need any media image that perpetuates divide. "Reality" t.v. is really scripted and I can't count on those hungry for revenue to be above board in their production. *taking a breath* You asked how I feel? CBS - Don't do it. If they do anyway - Boycott it.

Name: YLawdY
Comment: What I wanna know is...where's all the posters that are always advocating "relevent" convo on the F4A? Shyt, the one time we decide to act like serious grown ups (and on a Friday no less), they aint around. Don't know when it will come again.

Name: StormyMonday
Comment: YLawdY, I think we as people natually segregate ourselves. Go in almost any high school lunch room in this country, for some reason people tend to generate around those who are similiar to them. Even adults do it, and it's not always segregation by race. Race is such a touchy subject in today's society. If you ask an older person how they feel about segregation, many are for it and feel the worst thing that happened to us as black folk was integration. I'm thinking if nothing else, the show will prove that no matter how you slice and dice the teams, I think people will vote for the better player. But, then again, what do I know. Please YLawdY, don't ask me to boycott Survivor, ok?

JUKE JOINTS,ETC..He says smallwonder that Universal is dumping the Outkast musical "Idlewild" in tghe wilds of late August after reportedly spending two years puzzling how to market this eccentric vanity project. He nitpicks every little detail. He rates it 2 stars, but "Beerfest" receives 2 1/2 stars, "LOL" 3 stars. I'm just glad it's playing in a lot of theaters in the tri-state. Comment: Comic sues Jews for Jesus -- Saying he's "as Jewish as a matzo ball or kosher salami," Jackie Mason filed a lawsuit against Jews for Jesus for using his name and likeness in a pamphlet. The $2 million lawsuit seeks the immediate destruction of the pamphlet, which members of the missionary group have been handing out at various points around New York City. "While I have the utmost respect for people who practice the Christian faith, the fact is, as everyone knows, I am as Jewish as a matzo ball or kosher salami," the 75-year-old comedian said in documents filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan. Founded in the 1970s, Jews for Jesus practices Judaism but regards Jesus as the Messiah. The pamphlets feature an image of Mason next to the words "Jackie Mason ... A Jew for Jesus!?" with information inside that outlines the similarities between Jews and Christians. "The pamphlet uses my name, my likeness, my 'shtick' (if you will), and my very act, which is derived from my personality, to attract attention and converts," Mason said in an affidavit. Susan Perlman, a spokeswoman for Jews for Jesus, said the pamphlet was "good-natured." "Shame on him for getting so upset about this," she said Friday. Mason has starred on Broadway and in films including "Caddyshack II."

Minneapolis-St. Paul was ranked second overall; followed by Columbus, Ohio; Boston; Austin, Texas; Chicago; Cleveland; Pittsburgh and then Philadelphia and Providence, R.I., in a tie for ninth.
