Comment: okay LOL read this......""For a long time, the African-American creative community has wanted to have a studio where greenlight authority rests with an African-American," Johnson said. "I'm happy that Harvey and Bob (Weinstein) have joined me in making this vision a reality."

Name: khufu
Comment: In other words.....the Weinsteins REALLY REALLY run the company.....

Name: khufu
Comment: here is the real story.....http://www.studentfilmmakers.com/news/articl e_1186.shtml

Name: khufu
Comment: in the story it says this...."Our Stories titles will be theatrically distributed by The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films and on DVD by Genius Products, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: GNPI)." DISTRIBUTION is key........

Name: khufu
Comment: read between the lines...."We are thrilled to partner with Harvey and Bob Weinstein to fulfill this vision," stated Robert L. Johnson, Chairman of Our Stories Films..."

Name: khufu
Comment: However, here is what the Weinsteins said.....'Bob and Harvey Weinstein stated, "We are proud to be behind this venture and are confident in Bob Johnson's taste and his ability to identify projects that will be successful. "

Name: khufu
Comment: they said THEY ARE PROUD TO BE BEHIND THIS VENTURE......

Name: khufu
Comment: Now I am only bringing this up becasue CAN WE REALLY REALLY have our own.....can we REALLY REALLY tell our own stories in AMerica?

Comment: Weinstein (German, meaning wine stone)as in german Jew

Name: bigchassie
Comment: and whats up with that statement "i'm not looking for positive or negitive, i'm looking for funny" What? black folks don't get into dramas? we have to jus grin and shuffle just to do a film?? and they want to pay Denzel and Danny G to be in these kind of movies?? WTF?????

Name: McNasty
Comment: As in they got the right one to pull the strings on - tracey edmonds name is on college hill - one of the worst and nastiest reality shows I've ever seen. Her stamp being on this doesn't guarantee anything but other unwatchable shows. The best thing this chick ever did was Soul Food.

Name: Teigh
Comment: MCNasty>check it, consider everything she did AFTER SoulFood, it's pretty evident that all she did with Soulfood was add her name & clout.

Name: realuvbaby
Comment: McNasty, I co-sign. And also, is "funny" safe for white folk? What? are our stories not to be taken seriously? Life is real, our stories are real and where we get by with "humor" that laughter is often to keep from crying at the sad state of the black community. Shoot, we had good times growing up, but black people are more than "funny." That's why our stories need to be told for us. White America will never get us and they fear what they don't know. The come in throwing dollars and that's a way to control our culture. Our history has been so distorted by others telling our stories and even denying our stories. Now we got to be funny to be taken seriously. D.a.m.n, if that ain't a step backwards, I don't know what is. But we shall see. But if College Hill and Lil Kim going to prison is an indication of what's to come, then count me out. Not interested. I'll be checking out TVOne and the BFC.

Name: khufu
Comment: But then again, according to many here, I guess we shuld stop "Hatin" and be glad that she gettin' paid and some Black actors will be getting work.......nah...methinks not

Name: McNasty
Comment: TVOne will be running "A Man Called Hawk" all day on Monday. It was good while it lasted and if you're an Avery Brooks fan you'll love this show. Teigh it also occurs to me that before her marriage fell apart her and babyface had an enviable relationship, why not a sitcom based on that?! Oh, and if it's not nasty enough just add in the drama that's been all over the place in print!

Name: Teigh
Comment: McNasty>ok here's the pitch...real estate saleswoman meets R&B crooner who is at the forefront of writing and producing for himself and others (at that time). Saleswoman eventually appears in his video, marries crooner, has children and then sleeps her way all around the town...now that's drama.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: TEIGH>hey that sounds interesting. what would you call it? MCNASTY> whatever happened to Avrey Brooks anyway? he was a wonderful actor. and i just loved that voice. "SPEN-SAH!" loved it!

Name: StopBeingIgnant
Comment: Yo' khufu, why not just write your own column since you enjoy talking to yourself. LOL Can't you just put all your thoughts in one post or do you have to subject readers to the inner voices within your head?

Name: McNasty
Comment: Teigh, let's put it on paper and send it to Tracey-lmao - think she'll recognize the storyline?! Bigchassie - Avery Brooks went back to teaching drama at Rutgers and still does plays and when I can catch episodes of Spenser for Hire that SPENS-SAH still makes a sistah move!!

Name: Bertie
Comment: I shouldn't expect much from the woman who brought us Lil Kim Countdown to Lockdown--but why comedies? Is there really a shortage of black comedies? And why not look for "positive" projects? Whats the point in having a black company greenlight projects if we put out the same BS the white companies do? Seems like this broad thinks empowerment is about making her personally richer and not about uplifting the image of our community as a whole.

Name: reflection
Comment: if it's not about being positive, what's the point? It may seem like this is a wonderful opportunity but if it's not about bringing an insightful, uplifting or at least positive, film to the screen, how is this any different than when someone of another race greenlights yet another stereotypical tale ?

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: What the hell y'all expect from a woman who has been pimped by her momma to Face???

Name: Priceless
Comment: I hope Tracey got something better than College Hill up her sleeve *sucking teeth*

Name: Teigh
Comment: McNasty>Remember what Billy Bob said "I'm not necessarily looking for 'positive' or 'negative' type movies,I'm looking for funny -- that's it," So if we make it a reality show, and at the end of each episode have a "who am I" segment, perhaps she'll figure it out, because it doesn't matter if it's positive or negative -- it just needs to be funny. Call me crazy but doesn't this sound like the code of ethics for BET -- we finally learn the truth!!!!

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: And most of you probably haven't watched even two full episodes of last season's College Hill absolutely none of Countdown. *go figure*

Name: McNasty
Comment: While bet has come a distance from the all day videos they seem to want to continue to wallow in black misery disguised as 'funny'. I don't expect much from them and certainly nothing from this female.

Name: khufu
Comment: lol to STOPBEINGIGNANT

Name: Peekiebear
Comment: The Weinsteins had the all-important Miramax Studio which changed the film industry. I'm sure they are in total control of the whole thing.

Name: TRTR
Comment: Tracey Edmonds being the overseer of material on Blacks only spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. More belittling of Blacks is on the way for sure. Will Bob Johnson ever get any socially conscious individuals on the payroll? Oh yeah, he sold out to Viacom and Sumner Redstone (born Sumner Rothstein) and now to the Weinstein brothers, so PROBABLY NOT.

Name: CreoleInDC
Comment: Well...I hope it's a good thing. I try not to see the bad before anything has even been done. I need PROOF before I can have an opinion on the success of something. *sigh* www.MonicaMingo.com
