Comment: Kenyan government officials can't handle the truth. I pray for brother Obama's safe return to the US.

Name: DoctorSmooth
Comment: The Kenyan leadership is in such denial. Without acknowledgement of a problem, there will never be true change. Its a shame that millions of Africans have suffered so much because of government corruption and mismanagement. India, once a hoplessly poor third world country, is pulling itself up and is emerging as a global economic power. Too bad that African nations dont seem to be willing or able to pull themselves up in the same way. The white man has done a lot of harm to us over the years, but sometimes I feel like the black man's worst enemy (especially in Africa)has been his fellow black man . Its just a sad situation to watch this foolishness continue on like this.

Comment: Have i been asleep or have i not heard any bold statements by Barack Obama on U.S. government corruption? The Pentagon cannot account for 2.3 trillion dollars of our money. Anyone heard Obama say anything about that? Billions of dollars are unaccounted for in Iraqi. Any word from Obama? The President has committed impeachable acts. Any strong words from Obama? The BlackCommentator.com called him "mush mouth" because of his double talk on the Iraqi conflict issue. So he goes to Africa and suddenly develops a backbone against Black Africans but against white folks here--hardly a whimper.

Comment: Obama is half white. He cannot be impartial to whites. No matter how badly they treat us.

Comment: Interesting comments, each of them with merit. I can relate to and am in agreement with each of them on some level. Doctor Smooth, your comment about the black man being his own worst enemy -- you ain't never lied. I believe every word of that down deep in my soul. Blacks were also in the "business" of slavery, don't forget. We see ourselves as different because of the color of our skin, but deep down side, are we really? When the oppressed rises up and comes in power, he then begins to oppress so we are no better than the white race. This is not to let the white man off the hook for all the ills he has perpetrated on civilization, but we should take an self-%*$essment and be honest enough to admit that a lot of the problems are caused by our actions and sometimes, inaction. I love my race with a passion and wouldn't want to be anything other than a black woman. But I also love the truth and know that if you cannot admit that there is a problem, there's no way you're gonna solve a problem. How can you find a solution, if you don't think you have a problem or if you believe that are always a victim?

Comment: whatdat< I agree with you in theory... but this man is trying to advance his political career so he has to think strategically. He is a first term Senator therefore there aren't many things in America he can speak out on without approval of the Democratic party first. If he riles up the Democratic base by pointing out things at the wrong time or in the wrong manner he will ruin any hopes he has of being a long term Senator or possibly a Presidential candidate. He can only gain by critizing Kenya. It paints him as some one concerned with African issues and as someone concerned with truth and honesty. Also, isn't he half Kenyan? It could also be that he is trying to exact change in a country he cares deeply for.

Comment: "Greed" for lack of a better word is a cancer that will kill anyone who subscribes to it. If African countries are to advance there must be knowledge of the deep seeded European colonialization of that great continent. Assimilation to the values & culture that have been exercises over these people by the “superpowers" is apparent. Rejection of these values is the only answer to the question of how to create a free independent society. It appears that perhaps this nation would benefit from taking the "best case practices" from capitalism and dumping the rest. The western business model could work for that country but only if it is free of 'isum's & cisum's. Perhaps it will take US-folk to do business with our folk over there to create an economic business model of our own making. An economic power to rival the world. Comment: Doctorsmooth< India is rising as a global force but make no mistake the majority of Indians still live in Poverty. Same thing in China. It's an extreme case of the haves and have-nothings, kind of like what George Bush is tryin to turn the U.S. into. Africa is a hard place to analyze. I still think many of Africa's current problems stem from the actions of white people. We can't forget that colonization did a lot of damage all over the world. White people drew up these fake azz boundaries, and divided cultures by converting people from their traditional religion, or forcing them to speak a different language, thereby making them THINK they were different from each other. The same thing is going on in Iraq. Pretty soon the white people running the Iraq war will draw boundaries in Iraq that will seprate Kurds, Shi'ites, and Sunnis hardening the divide between those cultures as well.

Comment: It is now becoming clear that Barack Obama is just like the other opportunists in the Democratic party who would rather sacrifice principles in order to get political points. His comment to support Bush planed attack of Iran puts him in the same category as Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelousi and Howard Dean who supported Israel in it's campaign of mass murder of innocent Lebanese women and children. Acts, which are now condemned as war crimes. the Democratic Party's rising "progressive" star Barack Obama said he would favor "surgical" missile strikes against Iran. ...Obama went on to argue that military strikes on Pakistan should not be ruled out if "violent Islamic extremists" were to "take over." . But it seem like just after 9/11, when every Democrat wanted to kiss up to Bush, they are now showing they ignerant azz once again by being pro Israel/pro war, despite the public sentiment to the contrary (go figure). Take Congressmember Anthony Weiner, who successfully added an amendment to a House bill banning aid to the Palestinian Authority. According to this fool " the PLO is still considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. government." Wrong!!! The PLO was on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations until 1988. So, for almost 20 years, it's been removed and the PLO has had a mission to the United Nations. And nigus still lining up to vote for the Democrats (go figure).

Comment: ====>Whatdat...I agree with you 100%. Black folks were losing their minds over Obama after his address at the 2004 DNC. Treating him like he was the long lost messiah or something. IJA...if you are correct in stating that he is concerned about advancing his career, then he is no better than his white counterparts. At some point, he needs to establish himself as a leader in order to be able to win the Democratic Party National primary in 2012. What better way to do that than to call attention to many of the travesties this current administration has prepetrated on American citizens. This too is a strategy. It just depends on what is actual agenda is. He can play politics or he can become an agent of change, which is why he was voted into the senate in the first place.

Comment: Thinker, it is good to see your post. Seems like you have been missing for a while. Before i started posting i remember seeing you posts on the free-for-all board, and i noticed you got real frustrated with the lack of conscientiousness there. I like to see your thoughts so please start posting again.

Comment: Obama has a birthright to criticize the Kenyan gov't. for alleged governmental corruption. It's not fair to bring up his white MaMa every time he does and says something that some of us disagree with. Whatz up with that? He's married to a beautiful, brilliant Black woman, has Black kids, goes to a Black church, has a Black Pastuh, lives in a Black neighborhood, represents Black folks so why should his Mother's race be an issue? Let's build this young brother up not tear him down! Why are we like crabs in a barrel?

Name: Angel
Comment: I say give this brother time to establish himself in the senate and then see what happens. Hopefully, he will gain respect for his leadership and decision-making abilities, so that when he speaks out about the travesties in this country, he won't be seen as a nut (can you say Cynthia McKinney?!?).

Comment: Realuvbaby, your love for yourself as a Black woman is a beautiful thing. I feel the sincerity in your comment. However, you feel in your soul we are our own worse enemy. Okay, you feel that way but what does the truth show to be the case? A diligent study of our plight causes me to know that we are by no means our own worse enemy. Perhaps in time, you will get to know that is the truth.

Comment: ImJustAsking, the true measure of a person is the willingness to stand up and say and do whatever needs to be done even if ones friends or associates do not want you to do it. He/she does not do what is expedient but does what is right. M.L. King was told by Black and white ministers and others that the time wasn't right, to hold back, to go slow and he refused knowing full well he would be killed for standing up. If he would have hewed the party line, if you will, he certainly could have secured himself a high position. He chose instead to march into death rather than wait for what others considered the appropriate time to speak.

Comment: Love your comment RadioDaze, but i can't figure out the isums and cisums.

Comment: fanteeking, bringing up his White Mama is self-serving evidence. Mentioning he has a Black wife and children is an inconvenient point not to dwell on.

Comment: ImJustAsking, your second post is powerful. Good stuff. By the way, i agree with you about that BlackPlanet ad. The interesting thing is the lovely ad with the brotha and sista fully and very nicely dress rarely pops up. The latter ad suggests the dating service will help a person find a fulfilling relationship. The former suggests the service will help you get some sex. Who is behind it all? If i'm not mistaken, BlackPlanet is now white owned.

Comment: A government that is corrupt. Wow that is news. Americans are not in the position to criticize other governments about corruption. We need to make sure our own house is clean before we talk about the dirt in someone elses home.

Name: Reds
Comment: <<Angel>> I think you are allowing yourself to me misguided by the mainstream media. While the mainstream media may be too scared to embrace her, Cynthia Mckinney is highly regarded by the progressive movement. She is in constant demand to make appearances on non mainstream progressive media outlets such as DemocracyNow the the Alex Jones show. Remember that mainstream media support means that you are willing to dance to the beat of a government who lies and and constantly violates the constitution.

Name: Angel
Comment: Ummm Reds - you missed my point. If he wants to be effective WITHIN THE SENATE, he has to take certain steps. Cynthia McKinney did not have the backing when she attacked George Bush, so no one IN CONGRESS had her back---they simply relegated her to nut status. She's an activist and they serve their purpose, but she was ineffective in Congress. My point is - he's in the alliance building stage of his career. Who knows what his long-term plan is, so I'm going to give him time and see what happens.

Name: gingerg
Comment: I applaud Obama's courage for speaking truth to power whether it is in the U.S. or abroad. We have to be honest about the situations and behavior that are hampering the progress of our people in Africa. Though outside forces definitely play a role, we cannot ignore the fact that genocide, greed, corruption and rampant poverty are wrecking havoc. Some people don't appreciate hearing the truth and that is fine. However, Obama needs to watch his back there. I pray for his safe return home.

Name: whatdat
Comment: Fanteeking, he also has a birthright to criticize this nation's government for corruption, so why hasn't he? Also, the 'crabs in a barrel' syndrome is about picking at petty idiosyncrasies to hold a person back. Are we being petty to point out that he does not speak up BOLDLY about this nation's problems but suddenly snaps the whip at an African nation? No, m'am, your analogy does not apply here. Fanteeking & ATLGirl, from whom does a child get much of its values, culture, language, etc.? The primary caregiver. In a single parent home the primary caregiver's influence is even greater (if that parent is the primary caregiver). Yes, his father was Black but the values and culture imparted to him were primarily those of his mother since his father died when he was very young. His mother could only impart to him what she is and what she knows--whiteness. That has to be taken into account. Angel, be honest, in the main, has the white media or the Black media attemtped to portray Cynthia McKinney as a nut? So whose opinion does your comment show you favor and what does it say about you?

Name: Priceless
Comment: them dumbazz africans hate being put on blast ... them mofos been corrupt from day one

Name: gingerg
Comment: Whatdat: Obama has never presented himself as anything other than a conscious, intelligent black man who is committed to his family and community. That stuff about his white mother is a stretch at best. I agree that he should be more vocal here and believe that is coming. However, the opportunity to make a statement to the Kenyan people right now presented itself and he took it. Bravo for him. Let's stop glossing over legitimate issues in African communities and shifting the focus. Remember what happened to Lumumba in the Congo? There's no telling what he could have accomplished if he had lived.

Name: Angel
Comment: whatdat - It's not about the media. The point is, no one in DC would touch her with a ten foot pole, so even if she had the best of intentions to do great things in Congress, no one would work with her, thereby marginalizing her ability to be effective in any capacity. It's not about taking sides on anything. It's the reality of the situation. Hopefully, outside of Congress she will continue to pursue her goals in the activist capacity. And you're right, it's been mainly white media attacking her, but she chose to go after a sister, Cynthia Tucker, for writing a negative editorial about her.

Name: whatdat
Comment: Gingerg, i can accept that i don't know everything. It is possible that i am misinformed about the primary caregiver. So please don't just say i 'stretched' the truth, tell me where does a child in his/her formulative years get values, culture, language, etc.? As to Lumumba, the man responsible for torturing and murdering him was from what nation and what race was he? The man that had Lumumba's teeth as proof of his role in his death, what's his nationality?

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: whatdat and mztee< it would be great if things were simple enough for Obama to just be a good person with good character. But this is politics and Obama has to play the game. He has to be in the game in order to win it. I don't think he's of bad character for playing the game, anyone who is successful has to do that to a certain extent. He can't just blurt out his opinions at will, he has to do it strategically and within the confines of his party. Otherwise, he wouldn't be reelected.

Name: blackdiamondleo
Comment: good for him! I love this man. Have so much respect for him. Wish he was a Political leader here in New York.

Comment: whatdat - I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. I live in Chicago and was lambasted by blacks for not jumping on the Obama bandwagon. I am sorry, but this guy is just a phony to me. He is so contrived. You won't hear any strong comments about this country from him, because he is too busy deluding himself into believing he will be the 1st "black" president of the USA.

Comment: ==>whatdat: I say that we keep our eyes on the rearview mirror of the past, when we should be looking at the windshield of the future. The rearview mirror is small and gives you a distorted view. The windshield is bright, wide and you can see the road ahead. We cannot go ahead if we keep looking back. In the past we were victimized. And our past is not greater than our future. Instead of looking back, let's take the resources we are blessed to have today and use it to better our future. We can't stay back there and worry about what WAS done to us. That makes us our own worse enemy. Let's move up and move on. We so used to living in lack, that we don't even see the value of what we have and who we are. That, too, makes us our own worse enemy. For example, when the gov't was successful in infiltrating the Muslims and that resulted in Malcolm X being %*$assinated by his fellow Muslim brothers, that's being our own worse enemy. Being able to be bought to the detriment of our brother. Sellling out, that's our own worse enemy. The lack of support and lack of respect for what and who came before us -- that's being our own worse enemy. Being unwilling and unable to support black owned businesses -- that's being our own worse enemy. Disrespecting our women -- that's being our own worse enemy. Black men resorting to crime instead of taking care of their familes -- that's being our own worse enemy. Those are just but a few examples. Can you hear me now?
