As much as Oprah has she constantly helps the less fortunate.
I've never heard or read of Tyson donating to a worthy cause.
He may have but, I doubt it.

Comment: This is so sad...a sad commentary for being in the spotlight as the world's greatest, having an adoring entourage who is ready to gobble you up and "yes men" telling you all you wanna hear. It reminds me of the great Jack Johnson who after serving a prison term for transporting his white girl friend across state lines (Mann Act) had to settle his bills by playing an African chief in a circus side show. I can just see Don King in NYC counting Tyson's stolen money and smiling!

Comment: Khufu why must we go through this all the time? It is you who exist outside the realm of normalcy and the world the rest of us live in. I don't feel sorry for anyone who lucks upon so much money and commences to blow it. He had a good life and didn't appreciate it, or maybe he appreciated it too much. No matter he still lives better, he has a job and his ex wife (who kindly took the brother to the cleaners twice) made sure his chuckleheads are very well supported.

Comment: ===khufu...not only every black entertainer, but every average black Jane and Joe. Money management is crucial and is something that SHOULD be added to the American educational system. This is why debt and bankruptcies in this country constantly increase. As my father always says, "It doesn't matter how much money you make, if what you SPEND is more than what you TAKE IN." As to the black entertainers/athletes, they need to take a page from Dr. Bill Cosby, who instilled this knowledge in Oprah, and that is to always SIGN your own checks. Never EVER give your business manager and/or attorney/agent power of attorney and authorization to spend your money. These people should work for you NOT the other way around. The best way to have relationships with these people is place them on retainer or be billed hourly like the Kennedys, Rockerfellers, Vandebuilts, Ford, and Johnson families do. We commonfolk can learn a lot from the wealthy on how to retain our wealth if we just take the time. And Southernbelle, Mike's lost fortune is nothing compared to the 1+ Billion fortune Doris Duke, a former tobacco heiress lost. Once again, if you have NO money management skills and ALLOW people to control your %*$ETS, it is extremely easy to LOSE massive amounts of money.

Comment: Well, I will say this for Mike Tyson. He's non-pretentious and hinest as heck. As far as his sharing and giving back is concerned-HE WAS NEVER IN CONTROL OF HIS OWN MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE! DUH! THAT'S WHY HE'S BROKE NOW. He was ripped off-seriously. I wonder if just possibly, somewhere, somehow an honest person will step forward and professionally manage his money? For once?

Comment: In any entertainment undertaking, and boxing is an entertainment platofrm, one of the first thing Black "performers" should understand is................intellectual property...the value of an idea...the value of the expressions of that idea...and as the "image" is the expression of an idea, entertainers should know the value of their own image...image as product and commodity.......see, folks continue getting ripped because THEY DONT KNOW THE BUSINESS.....even the basics....Mike, with allrespect, cuz I doont want to have to kick his azz, only understood the power of his fists....and not the power of his image........

Problem, a major one, again folks dont know history...how stupid would a person be to "get in the game" tommorrow and lose their cash when there is at least a 70 year history of examples of "what not to do"?

Comment: missgee, I'd like to respond to your comment "That's what happens when you have and don't give back. As much as Oprah has she constantly helps the less fortunate. I've never heard or read of Tyson donating to a worthy cause. He may have but, I doubt it." Mike Tyson has been a close personal friend to my family (in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area) since the late 80s's and he is a very giving man. At least he was when he was at the peak of his career. The media has always tried to paint a pic of Mike as a brutal, savage beast and that's just not always true. I agree that sometimes he helped live up to that image but he is not a bad guy and he has given back a lot over the years. We shouldn't be so quick to judge others (ESPECIALLY if you don't know them personally). Now, have a lovely day!!

Comment: Mike, if you're reading this, do your thing. As long as you're out there legally, working to provide for you and yours, then do what you do. Mike learned a lesson, y'all. Shoot, if he could go back and do it all again, he'd most likely do it better--if at all. Unfortunately for him, he was in the public's eye, adn all we see is a "fall from grace"; however, we've all probably encountered the same things he has, though on a different scale. (Or, at least, know someone who has.) My thinking is he's taking all that he went through and will apply it to his future. P.S. Y'all, even though Tyson was winning mightily and banging dues hard thoughout his career (esp. early on), you could see it in him that he did not necessarily want to be hurting dudes like that. Shoot, the dude used to help his victims up from the canvas! And hold them up sometimes. Shoot, sometimes, the corner people would have to shoo him away from their guy so he could wake up. That don't sound like a "true" fighter to me.

Comment: Khufu: After Jack Johnson got out of prison he worked in a circus side show playing the role of an African chief who was a cannibal. It was sad to see this great champion of the early days of last century be reduced to a side show clown. He deserved better. There was a series on PBS a few years ago which showed footage of his performance at the circus.

Comment: Jack Johnson wasn't willing to cowtow, but his vices got the best of him. One thing about racists, they are patient and they found his weaknesses and waited him out. In the end, they had the last laugh at his expense.
Speeding was one of his vices and it ultimately cost him his life.

Comment: I don't know, I just don't know. (Shakes head) Once again, some of us are paying homage to a man who: beat his ex-wife, served time for raping a young beauty contestant and bit the ear of an opponent off. And we should WONDER why he might have nothing left he can do except be a sideshow (AKA Vegas, cause it's one big circus) freak ala Jack Johnson? But then, he never WAS known for his intelligence.....

Comment: 1)Some of the most generous giver are never known because they give anonymously. 2) Mike Tyson has a brilliant mind. I discovered that over 10 years ago when i listened to an interview that he did. He has some problems with his mind that causes most people not to notice his extremely high intelligence. I expressed as much to several people who thought i was crazy. A few years back he was on a late night show. The host name was Daily Carlson or something like that. He talked about his past and mentioned that he has a brother that is a genius. To me that validated what i saw in him. If Mike Tyson had been raised in a stable two-parent home he would be an outstanding lawyer, doctor or something similar. 3) Thinker noticed something else that i noted about him--he is very honest. On the Carlson Daily show Tyson said he was never faithful to any woman including his wives. Also, he said he did not rape the young woman he was accused of raping. This brutally honest would have admitted it if he did it. He did not rape her.
