Comment: She sounds like a firecracker. God rest her spirit.

Comment: I will add my condolences for the loss of Ms. Lomax. Not to pry, but it sounds as if it might have been a suicide. If so, it would be good to let future Melanie Lomaxes know that, no matter how "impenetrable" their aura might be, they should not be too proud to lean on others - friends, therapy professionals if need be - in the name of protecting their "rep". It's better for them to step off their "throne" - in private, at least - when needed instead of trying to carry their burden 100% alone, which would leave them more susceptible to taking the plunge in a moment of despair.

Comment: Co-sign azure. Strong Black women need to know its okay to admit we need help too sometimes...

Comment: Interseting lady. Truthfully I hadn't heard of her until now (I'm on the east coast), but I googled her after reading this. I agree that it could have been suicide because someone that hard and tough cannot be happy.

Comment: I meant to say, someone that hard and tough ALL the time, cannot be happy

Comment: Attorney Melanie Lomax was a fierce fighter for Black people, and here yall are--without a thimble of proof--casting dispersions on her by postulating that she committed suicide. We really don't need white folk to hate us,do we?

Comment: The woman had a heart attack, lost consciousness and her car went down an embankment. Y'all got some wild imaginations that you need to quit spouting conjectures and act like it's the truth. May she RIP.

Name: Story2tell
Comment: I read some more details, suicide doesn't make sense because she rolled off her own driveway, aAND she had her seatbelt on. I stand by the rest of my statement though. Everyone has to lighten up sometimes.

Name: MER82
Comment: I don't think anyone was being negative, azure simply stated it sounded that way to her. The rest of what she said still stands, whether someone commits suicide or not, every strong black woman needs to know she can lean on someone else too sometimes. There is no harm in saying that. Besides, suggesting someone may have committed suicide is not hateful. Its a mental health issue and stems from depression in most cases. Its thinking like that whatdat-that causes black folk not to seek help when they need it--which goes back to the original point. Lighten up indeed.

Comment: In fact, if she did have a heart attack, there is a very real possibility that she was constantly on the go handling things and not taking care of herself, so I stand by what I said.

Comment: A sister builds a sterling reputation championing the cause of her people. At death, some of her own come along to sully her reputation by, without an iota of evidence, intimating she took her own life. Then they tell defenders of the sister to "lighten up" because after death, inadvertently or not, they proceed to attempt to damage her memory by saying she was unhappy, needed counceling, and did not take care of her health. You are taking shots at my sister who can no longer defend herself and you want me to lighten up? White folk have done such a good job training Black people that if all the white people disappeared today, we still would tear each other down.

Name: MER82
Comment: Whatdat, you have issues that need to be addressed with a professional. AGAIN-no one was tearing this sista down. Why can you not admit that we all need to look to each other sometimes? Are you another one who is so strong, that you think leaning on someone else makes you weak? You are correct I didn't know anything about this woman, but from what I read, I admired her tenacity and strong will. She reminded me of myself. And I know directly how it feels to think you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Taking her out of the equation and speaking of Black women in general, obviously by your comments, there are plenty of folk in the community who still think talking to others about problems is a sign of weakness. My friend, that is the true downfall of the African American--thinking that admitting we have issues means we are faulty. Denial has kept us in the dark about a lot of things, and its manifestation is great. The White man don't have nothing to do with that.

Comment: I am heartened that it was not a suicide. I'm bewildered that my speculation of possible suicide...based upon the initially strange news of her car going over a cliff...would be seen as casting "dispersion" on her character, or being "negative". I wrote with compassion. I admire her as a modern-day Harriet Tubman. May God bless her soul.

Comment: BTW, I'm a "him".

Comment: My bad azure.
