Comment: Such great talent and promise ruined by a snitch. During the early 1950's, Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy went on a witchhunt looking for communist. He held hearings to get Hollywood folks to snitch on their friends who MAY have attended communist meetings. Hollywoood Director, ELIA KAZAN was called to testify and rather than keep his mouth shut, named everybody he THOUGHT might have attended these meetings. Some might have attended out of curiosity, but Kazan ratted on everybody! It's so sad Mr. Jones' career was derailed by a rat!!

Comment: Ah but it paved the way for others, most notably James Earl Jones. Without the struggles, trials and tribulations of our foremothers and fathers we would still be struggling like they did. Now our struggle is of our own making for the most part.

Name: bigheadbull2
Comment: He's was better looking than his son. RIP

Name: tltrace
Comment: Re:bigheadbull2 I guess that is really important right now huh?

Name: Bad_Kitty
Comment: bigheabull2: In his day, James Earl Jones was a very nice looking man as well. Not that ANY of this matters or, is important like tltrace said. RIP Mr. Jones. It is very unfortunate your career was sidelined at the time but unfortunately, those were the times he was living in.

Comment: Many of his movies can be seen on the Black Family Channel. A few of Oscar Michaeux's films too. My friend Tondaleyo was in a few films with him. Rest In Peace, brother Jones.

Comment: Wow-96 damn! I guess it was time to go home. RIP.

Comment: lol at bighead - Anyway, JEJ looks a lot like his father, especially back in the early 70's movies like "Claudine."

Name: missgee
Comment: Rest In Peace Mr. Jones

Comment: RIP in Mr. Jones and thanks for begatting the legacy that is your son, James Earl Jones.

Name: Priceless
Comment: I didn't even know his father was in the business or still living ... RIP man

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: I'm trying to figure out why dude was in an old folks' home. JEJ has mad money from his movies, plays and commercials. Why was pops in a home for actors? Why not home with a paid nurse? Just a question...

Name: mzdoone
Comment: I remember him well...back in the 80's in NY when I was with Titus Walker's Ujammaa Theater at Lincoln Center. He came in and instructe our classes...his presence was quiet yet commanding!!!

Comment: fanteeking, I'm shocked that you mentioned "SNITCHING". This board believes that you should tell (check any rap thread that this applies to). I EXPECT this thread to have at least 1,000,000 replies saying that Robert Jones should have been snitched on. Telling is the right thing do, right? *Smirks* I'm done with my rant. R.I.P. Robert Jones.

Comment: i remember watching some of his movies, like one potatoe, two potatoe.he is and was a great actor.thank you mr.jones for enduring all of the struggles to pursue your craft."RIP"

Comment: >Queeniebunz: When I lived in Englewood, NJ, 20 years ago, my sister was a nurse at the Englewood Actors Home. For 3 years, she took care of Claudia McNeil, who played Sidney Poiter's Mother in "Raisin' In the Sun". Remember her, "In this House, there is a God!" During her tenure there, she NEVER saw one visitor for Mrs. McNeil. None of those famous hollywood stars who performed with her on B'way or in Hollywood, had the time to drop by to comb her hair or give her an uplifting word. My point is many of these elderly folks have been kicked to the curb. Just because someone has a famous offspring is a guarantee that they'll be loved and taken care of when they're old and grey.

Comment: Correction: Just because someone has a famous offspring is NO guarantee that they'll be loved and taken care of when they're old and grey.

Comment: He really looked good for a 96 y.o. man. Just kidding. RIP and thank you, Robert Earl Jones for your wonderful son who has given us so many hours of theatrical pleasure! God Bless.

Comment: Wow, Fan...Wow...that's really heavy.

Name: gingerg
Comment: How I miss good, quality community-based theatrical productions. Something with depth and a real message. This is the type of work that Mr. Jones did. In my city, the only thing the people have sense enough to see is chitlin circuit plays that "Mama's Sweet Potato Pie." They think it's art.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Gingerg, tell it!

Name: McNasty
Comment: Funny TesticAl! Different genre, different reason. These folk aren't from the criminal element and aren't shooting up our streets and all the bystanders. But you knew that.

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: >Fan - I worked in a nursing home in H.S. and I saw impatient offspring grudgingly visiting their parents so I understand what you mean. It is sad how we warehouse our elderly conveniently forgetting that they took care of us - of course that is assuming that REJ DID take care of JEJ. a deadbeat dad - not sure what to do with an elderly deadbeat dad...Anyone?

Name: gingerg
Comment: Queeniebunz: I had to deal with that very issue. I think you provide them with the best possible basic care, but not put yourself out too much.

Name: KayKay
Comment: RIP, Mr. Jones. Prayers for the family.
