Comment: Excellent picture even in subtitles.
One of the best pictures out there at this date 2009-09.
The reviewer is off base with respects to what is being depicted in this movie, and should return to reviewing cartoons or videogames.
This movie is about human feelings and relationships. The movie aslo beautifully illustrates the cultural, and political difficulties faced by many of the people of china in reguards to the invasion of their homeland by European, and American interest in the early 20Th. Century.
There were many parallels to the afro-american experience that even I noticed. Check out this film by all means. Nuff' Said!.

I have to totally agree with you on every point. In addition, the thing that made the fighting sequences good was the fact that they were more old scool style than 'Crouching Tiger'. It seems that as we get more tecnically advanced, movies are becoming less and less believable. Alot of this stuff started with the Matrix. However, The Matrix took place in a virtual computer world were crazy things 'can' happen. I know that alot of the stuff in old school karate movie can't happen either, but at least they made you believe that they could possibly do that.
