Comment: Now i don't want to knock him for what he is trying to do, but how many of us are going to make it to see this museum? How about something to update the history books to reflect this info or use this money to campaign to get something introduced into congress to change the history books in the schools. The schools are not teaching enough about slavery but they def are not lacking about the holocaust.

Comment: When i first heard about this i really wanted to support it, but here is my problem--Chien Chung Pei. That is right, a Chinese national is the architect who designed the building and therefore is going to get a chunk of the millions. I am highly offended that others are still being used to make money off Black slavery instead of getting a descendant of a slave to be the architect or an African even. Some of you will say the race of the architect does not matter to you. Okay, consider this, if it was a building in China to honor Chinese people would a Black architect be used? Ah, here is your answer: The Pei Partnership Architects’ current museum projects, in addition to the U.S. National Slavery Museum, include the Suzhou Museum of Art (with I.M. Pei) in the Pei family’s native city in China.

Comment: I'm in full support of it and my chapter is going to donate to help make this a reality. The Jews managed to get Holocaust museums built and that m.f. didn't even happen in this country but they got ways to "guilt" people into seeing their way...the hell with them.

Comment: Most black kids do not go to museums because their parent(s) to do take them. But a parent will be quick to take them to see "Get rich or die trying."….. And as for using a Chinese person to design the building, so what, at least we have a building….. And as for the history books, if our authors spent more time writing about history, instead of sex and drugs, then maybe our youth would be more knowledgeable about slavery….. Stop knocking Bill for trying to do something. Get off your %*$ and do something.

Comment: whatdat>> I hear what you're saying but we do have to start somewhere. Unfortunately yes, the Pei family is gonna make beaucoup $$ from this, but what about the invaluable info that this could give us and/or our children?! I mean, if given enough time, I'm sure we could find an excuse as to why we shouldn't participate in A LOT of things...but there comes a time when we have to see the long-haul benefit too!

Comment: I have mixed feelings about this. I can't agree more with Whatdat. I don't wanna sound petty, but I can't help but wonder why they didn't hire a Black architect. Let's say I get out there one day and take my child. It would've been so nice to be able to say "this building was designed by a Black architect." Just sayin...

Comment: Great idea but umm who the heck goes to Fredricksburg. Outside of the museum it doesn't offer much else unless you are stopping there on the way to Kings Dominion. Why not add to the African American museum in Anacostia or the African history museum that are both already a part of the Smithsonian in DC.

Comment: It shouldn't matter that not all blacks will get to the museum. At least there is a museum. And why not take the trip to see it? I notice whites will book vacations years in advance to see remnants of ancient greece and rome, etc but many of us are too busy in other pursuits to become more learned about history, etc. I do see whatdat's point, I agree with it and today I plan on calling wilder's office to ask why a black architect was not used. I will try and get a hold of Bill Cosby's publicist and ask that same question. Those of us who are in agreement with WHATDAT's point should follow suit.

Comment: Here's where you can spend your $8. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati needs
an additional $3 million to survive.
It cost $110 million to build and $40 million of that came from state/federal funds.

Comment: We talk a good game, but who is actually going to do this? We have more museums and monuments than we need now. Let's support the ones we have and educate our children about our rich history in the process.

Comment: I am sorely disappointed at the comments on this board. Herein lies our permanent problem, heirs of slaves and second class citizens without a backup country, political system or infrastructure. Let the white man change the history books, blacks don't take their children to museums, I don't care if a Chinese man is building the museum. First, we all need to contribute and to put Cosby on alert to hire a black architectural firm. Second, those blacks who keep their heads buried in ignorance and fail to contribute to a never ending struggle make me ill. Lastly, how in the world can anyone accuse the white man or foreigner of racism when so much of it exists in the black race towards other Blacks? I allege that black people DO frequent museums and that millions of us, amongst almost 39 million would go if the slavery exhibit existed. We struggle alone because we walk alone, in nonreality, bitter, ignorant and self deprecating. When will it all end?
