Comment: Very attractive Brother.

Name: mainman
Comment: OK, 2 things. I'm really looking forward to what the brother has to say. He's right, Black Radio ain't trying to play nothing new. Get 'em Gary! O-yeah, thing number 2. I cliked onthe link and checked out his music. Dayuuum, brothaman is definitely on to something. My God that song, I'm Lovin' My People, is too tight. I, I LOVE ...IT!

Name: Story2tell
Comment: It's about time somebody brought this up as an issue. I cannot even stand to listen to the radio anymore, especially those stations that are geared towards the young crowd...there's no music being played, it's all GARBAGE!

Name: McNasty
Comment: Simple solution-bring back local radio and give local and soul talent a chance! I'm sick and tired of hearing songs that for my money can stay on the stations that cater to the younguns. It's not like they know quality music anyway! Syndication was the worst thing that could have happened to radio - I long for the WOLs that have the window where you can see the dj - bring back sweet soul music and send these kids an their half azzed music packin'.

Comment: Another thing they didn't mention is the lack of diversity in SOUND & CONTENT of the music. Not only do Black stations play the same small sampling of tunes, but all the artists (*cough*) seem to only be doing poor imitations of EACH OTHER. You end up with a sound-alike format so boring that I turn to oldies stations just to remind myself what real music (complete with real insturments and not just a synth and a programmed drum beat) actually sounds like.

Comment: Im sorry enLIGHTEN me..who is Gary Taylor?

Name: khufu
Comment: now...right on! write on! It's not that other folks arent saying it or writing about it...it's just not being published or broadcast! So I am glad that this brother's letter made it through......

Name: khufu
Comment: actually he should reach out to Bill Cosby

Name: gingerg
Comment: Truer words were never spoken. I rarely listen to radio anymore because I tire of hearing the same songs over and over. In addition, the hosts are boring and obviously don't put much effort or research into their daily topics.

Name: rayne
Comment: Radio is not the way it used to be. They play the same tired songs back to back. I’m surprise radio ratings haven’t decreased with people listening to I-Pods & CD’s. Bring back the days when radio was diverse.

Name: LASUNSHINE
Comment: >khufu, Gary Taylor is a very talented R&B artist who like many other artist had to record in another country for his music to be heard. I've been into his music for years. Go to his website on myspace and order the CD "The Mood of Midnight" you will find the songs on that CD to be better than most of what you hear on the radio today. I just reordered it because I played it so much the copy I have skips.

Name: TampaC
Comment: Wow, isn't this the second ploy in a week regarding REAL artists that can't get airplay? This is sad, but I'm glad Gary is getting recognition for his letter. Try explaining to these young knuckleheads what real music is...not just a sample, e.g. Diddy and his wholehog craziness (which spawned a whole generation of ignorance...if you ask me.

Comment: Part of the problem is that we are not requesting those other artist music to play on radio enough. We need to start there. Thank God we do have a few Urban AC radio stations but we need to do more.

Name: SpecialK
Comment: This is what you call bring sexy back!! I LOVE HIS MUSIC!!!

Name: SpecialK
Comment: Story2tell: I feel ya!! I seriously hate the two main hip-hop stations here in DC (WKYS & WPGC). At any given time during the day they will both be playing the same song at the same time. WTF?? What makes it even worse is that all these so-called rappers and singers all sound alike and I hate that shyt!! You can hardly distinguish one from another. Gary Taylor needs to come back with a vengence.

Name: TampaC
Comment: another thing that comes to mind is that here is this BROTHER, talkin' bout positivity and beautiful Black people, etc...So, it's the D.J. who are at fault too, cause if Frankie Crocker (WBLS, New York) was alive...he'd be playin' this stuff...as he educated us with Jon Lucien, Lonnie Liston Smith and Quincy Jones, etc. back in the day! What radio stations are takin' chances these days? Besides the one's owned by Infinity Broadcasting, etc. Most of the D.J's dont even listen to their own formats..."Shoulderleanin'" it infuriates me...hypnotyzin' our people with the same 5 songs every hour.

Name: lilmocc
Comment: They are starting to do the same thing on adult Comtemporary r&B stations too. I know they play "Yesterday" by Mary Mary, any Luther song and "Pretty Baby" by Eric Benet at least twice every hour. We need variety across the board in black radio. Although I love the songs mentioned above, throw a little mix in there - along with that, give me some Raheem DeVaughan, Gary Taylor, Phyllis Hyman, India Arie (other than the hair song), etc. We as a people come in all different shades and colors, thus we are creative in music in many different ways. Ultimately, we are allowing radio to pigeonhole our creativity to conform to what makes money. Not a good look

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Tell it, McNasty! TampaC, I thought I was the only one who can't stand that song. You're on point though. Y'all need to peep Maurice "The Voice" Watts on WHCR 90.3 FM on Fridy nights 8 pm to 12 midnight. He's also on the internet. Bruh be throwin' down!

Name: STELLABABY
Comment: MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY.I'VE REALLY STOPPED LISTENING TO THE RADIO B/C IT IS CORRECT THAT THEY PLAY THE SAME MUSIC OVER AND OVER AND NOT ANYTHING THAT I WOULD LISTEN TO.I GREW UP ON WBLS AND WWRL IN NYC BUT UNLESS YOU WAIT FOR THE QUIET STORM AT NITE,YOU WILL NOT HEAR ANY DOWN HOME MUSIC.I MISS VAUGHN HARPER,FRANKIE CROCKER AND CAPITAN PAUL PORTER.WITH THEIR GREAT MUSIC CHOICES WHICH OPENED UP MY WORLD TO MUCH NEW MUSIC.RIGHT NOW I HAVE TO SAY THAT THE ONLY RADIO STATION WHO IS DOING IT RIGHT IS CD101.9 THEY PLAY JAZZ AS WELL AS R&B.FM PHLYISS HYMAN TO HIROSHIMA TO NANCY WILSON TO THE CHI-LITES.I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT WHAT I HAVE DONE IS LATCHED ON TO THE HABIT OF BUYING THE SOUNDTRACKS FROM MOVIES THAT I'VE SEEN B/C THEY HAVE GREAT MUSIC AS WELL AS GREAT ARTISTS ON THEM.AND I HAVE DISCOVERED A LOT OF NEW ARTISTS THAT MAY NEVER GET ANY AIRPLAY.WHAT A SHAME TO LET OUR MUSIC HISTORY GO BY THE WAYSIDE.DO ANY OF THESE STATIONS ARE LABELS REALALIZE THAT WE ADULTS ARE THE ONE'S WITH THE MONEY AND WE DONT' NEED TO HEAR ABOUT SOMEONE'S BABY MOMMA DRAMA OR HOW THEY GREW UP TOUGH IN THE HOOD AND SO MISUNDERSTOOD.I LOVE R&B AND JAZZ AND JUST GOOD DOWNHOME LISTENING MUSIC.AND LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT OUR CLASSICS FM. Comment: missgee tell the truth ... He fine LOL so is the brother in this advertisment Mike Thompson

Name: khufu
Comment: jon lucien is the man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name: TampaC
Comment: Thanks Mothership, I'm gonna check that out! Hey Stella, that's a good idea about soundtracks and hearing something different. One soundtrack that comes to mind is the movie "Good Night and Good Luck", I must say...Dianne Reeves lays it down!!! No dubs, No edits, NO SAMPLES, just singin' jazz.

Name: khufu
Comment: ah no...someone mentioned HIROSHIMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name: khufu
Comment: i used to work in JAzz radio...i cant wait until I can get all my old albums back....

Name: chryshelisonline
Comment: I'm in L.A. and we still have one local station that plays Black music. They try to diversify their offerings...R & B, classic, current; gospel, spoken word, a clean mix show, reggae, community service forum. There's really something for everyone. The problem is that some of the DJs can be irritating. If you can catch them when they're in the midst of commercial-free music, it's a pretty good station to listen to.
