Comment: This is really sad and pathetic of those young men. Very truly sad! They just have wasted their entire life for being just ignorant and out of order. My heart and prayers goes out to the young man's family. I'm truly disgusted today.

Comment: This is just sad shameful! No one should have to die for having a sexual preference which differs from another. I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, however I don't feel anyone (especially in America)should be killed or beaten just because of their sexual orientation! This saddens me! I hope these young men are put away for a LONG time! You know what's ironic about this...when they get on the "inside" they're going to become someone's little b*tch!

I'm not surprised this hasn't made the news. He's a homo..what would we expect. Sadly, hatred is so widespread that this will happen again. Parents teach the hate and bigotry to their kids. This same venom is spewed from the pulpit. Once a hateful Society interjects, it's a wrap. This is really...really sad and as someone who has constantly been haunted by the suicide of a high school gay friend, I'm just speechless! THIS is what a refusal to understand gets you. THIS is what self-righteousness gets you! This is what these stupid azz religious fkbutts seem to condone. UGH!*head bowed*

Comment: musb,
The same hatred you speak of is projected through the content in your comment. Please don't make general and unfounded statements about Christians. I mean come on!!!! You know not what we stand for and then try to put us in a box based on how "you" think we think. Please. My Christian brothers and sisters don't hate those who choose to live this lifestyle. It's the sin we demise not the sinner. There's really nothing to understand here. This lifestyle is in direct contravention to God's word. It's an abomination and sexually immoral. I'm sorry about your friend's suicide, but don't blame me for it. You want Christians to respect your position, yet you can't respect ours. Please!!!! Your comment is a tad bit conflicted and a wee bit hypocritical.

Comment: musbherbs> Please, Nobody is being sensitive here. From your first statement, it seemed like you generalized anyone with religion beliefs. But its your opinion and everybody is entitled to one, I just wanted to clarify that I don't condone this behavior. But anyway, this isn't about religion, this is about three ignorant young men who were out of order. I just have compassion for the young man and his family regardless of what color, religion, etc. That is all I am stating. I don't care whether if he was black, whether if the people did it was black or if he was gay or not gay. It was just wrong and uncalled for.

Comment: Herbs I agree with ss69054 religion has nothing to do with what has happened to this young man. The men who attacked Sandy have no heart, remorse, or soul I can’t think of any religion would condone beating someone to death, that’s just sick. I agree M’ship to many horror stories connected to these chat rooms for people to just up and run out and meet a complete stranger. *My condolences to Michael Dandy’s family*.

Comment: For all you Christians on the board, quit tell that hypocritical, bullshyt lie that religion has nothing to do with this. You preach hatred from the pulpit and then act suprised when shyt like this happens. You act as if homosexuality was the worse sin ever while ignoring even more egregious acts. Issues such as AIDS, gay marriage the christian has been silent and outspoken against. As an institution the church has been complicit in the deaths of millions. As a institution the church has worked dillegently to deny the human rights of millions who simply want to form families.

Comment: Although this is extremely sad and senseless but it seems like when you surf the net looking for action, chances are you don't know what your getting into and the odds of trouble is high. I think chat rooms should be banned. It said in the NY Daily News that he was in a gay chat room looking to hook up with someone he met online and as a result, he's dead. The same goes for kids. Man, I watch that Dateline special and it left me in total shock the number of people who showed up to have sex with children. I think all those that got caught in the Dateline sting should have to register as sex offenders. The one that got me was the black youth minister and the cancer research physician. It must be the last days because society is becoming more and more sick!

Comment: It makes me so sad that children can't play in the park or walk home from school anymore. This story really doesn't have anything to do with religion. I see it more like russian roulette. This guy had no idea who he was meeting and just like us, I'm sure he's read the stories about situations like this happening knowing gays and children are more likely to be harmed. I'm sorry but I think it was a bad judgment call on his part and yes, we are all guilty of making bad judgment calls but when it comes to not knowing, you should at least try to find out. Now, these white boys responsible for this will have the best lawyers and whatever they were chatting about will be made public and I'm sure it will be some pretty gross gay sex talk and they'll flip the script and say the guy that was killed came on to them. Watch!

Comment: SS69054: First of all, you brought religion into the discussion not musbdherbs. I quote: "I'm a Christian... " . We know how real Christians feel about gays. They have interpeted the Bible saying that it is wrong and gays are will suffer abomination. I can support this by GODSCHILD stating : "This lifestyle is in direct contravention to God's word. It's an abomination and sexally immoral." No one needed to know you were Christian. As far as placing Christians in a box... if you did not believe that this is lifestyle was abomination as you claim the Bible was correctly interpeted then why can't I put you in a box. You can't be 50% christian cause it makes you a hypocrit.
Also to MOTHERSHIP, SS and Stephanie: Regarding common sense and chat room banning... There is nothing wrong meeting people off chat rooms. It's no different from meeting someone on street, at grocery store, the club and church. Chatrooms is just a technology advancement on meeting someone without leaving home. Don't knock technology when we all benefit from it. You don't have t use chatrooms/IM to hook up. You can use it instead of the telephone to keep in touch with long distance friends for example. The guy met in a cruising park because that where some gays meet because unfortuantely they can't always be their selves out in public do to bigot people like you. It's okay for str8's to meet mingle in public but when someone gays do it and they beome injured or die it's stupid. Str8 people die from hooking up too. Str8 people try to act like they do no wrong and gays are just unintelligent. Also gays meet in some weird areas cause it's just not safe around in normal areas because of hateful str8's. Christian churches put us down in their sermons without even having first knowledge of being gay. You can't put down something you have not a clue about. Just because you've been conditioned by the religious system doesn't mean you've been properly schooled. If someone keeps putting that same theory in your head over and over and over.... i wouldn't be surprised that you believe it.
Now back to the article... It would not surprise me if the 4 guys who beat up Michael were gays in denial. Because we are lead to believe society does not like gays it causes people to not accept their selves.
SAD! wake up and stop judging and learn about a society you have no damn knowledge about. Embrace...don't deface!

No, El Jehovah, don't YOU make general and unfounded statements about Christians because I know some who do HATE the sinner and not the sin and it's not up 2 u or me to determine if they "are" or "aren't" Christians. Somebody died and I give a matilda's left tit about what u consider an abomination and most certainly didn't blame my friends death on ne1 in here. STFU! This isn't about CHRISTIANS it is about an intolerant, hateful society..and unfortunately CHRISTIANS, NON-CHRISTIANS, ATHEISTS, MUSLIMS, etc are part of it. Sorry! Good Grief. Again, this is about a man who was KILLED. NOT about your religious sensitivities. *mumbling* make one comment about religious fk butts and folks get all sensitive. If you're not the STUPID AZZ CHRISTIANS then stop worrying.

Comment: To the person that said he can't think of any religion that advocate beating anyone to death because of their sexual persuation: Try Christianity and Judism. In both homosexuality is described as being an abomination in the eyes of God and in both the punishment for abominations is usally death. And usually the prescribed method of death is by stoning. After 9-11 a Muslim made the comment that the difference between Islam and OUR religions is that they choose to FOLLOW theirs. For the most part, the same offenses that would get you stoned to death in Islam would get you stoned to death in our religions...IF we were to strictly follow them as they do. My recommendation: SCREW RELIGION. Place your fatih in God, but learn to think for yourself. Otherwise you just MAY find yourself stoning (or at least persecuting) a gay or stoning a female that had been raped, etc.

Comment: That is sad what happened to him. At the same time, one should know better than to show up to meet strangers from the "internet".
This type of attack was even featured as part a storyline on a soap opera, I believe it was "General Hospital" where a straight man sets up a gay man to really beat him up.
One should at least have a friend come along to check the situation out. One should keep in mind that people can say anything about themselves on the internet.
As far as religion goes, I think it is sad that there are some that use religion as a tool to hate or put down someone to make themselves feel better about themselves due to there low self esteem. Or because they are fearful of what they don't anything about.
Religion has been used to justify hatred towards people of different colors, religions, to enslave people, to bomb people, and to condemn people more so than to embrace others. That is the sad truth.
There is also some christians or religious people who commit all kinds of sins like cheating, stealing, and lying and then will turn around and bash gays. So hypocritical. I think it is silly to hate someone based on there sexuality. I just don't believe in discriminating against others based on gender preference or color, religion, etc.

Comment: God is definitely not pleased with cruelty on any of his children (regardless of sexualilty). My heart goes out to Michael's family and those indirectly effected by this heinous crime. As a christian, I don't believe anyone deserves to die in the hands of man for we "ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God." While I don't agree with his choice of lifestyle NO ONE should be denied respect and dignity. Anyone who tries to excuse his death as an Act of God is not operating in the teachings of Jesus Christ himself. Words to live by: Compassion before Criticizing!!!

I agree with you. That dateline special just made me sick as well.
It's as if the internet has made the problem worst when it comes to protecting children from pedophiles.
There was a sting not long ago where a number of pedophiles were arrested by the Attorney General office. One even broadcasted over the internet, himself molesting a toddler! We need to ship convicted molesters off to a seperate island for life and at least put an ankle monitor and register those who try to even contact a minor over the internet. I gotta get back to work now.

And before anyone starts yelling man wrote the bible I question that too sometimes, still I fear God. I’m familiar with the Old and New Testament and what those men did to Michael was not based on biblical/religious principles, it was flat out malicious, cruel, and a thoughtless act to mankind.

Comment: Homophobia is so entrenched and insidious that people sometimes don't reconize it even in expressions of sympathy. How did the issue of pedofiles get thrown in to the discussion. There are internet stings to catch men soliciting sex from minors but this has nothing to do with the hate crime that was committed against this young man. The men who did this did not commit this crime based upon religious beliefs. The chruch preaches intolerence and judgement against gays and lesbians marginalizing them and forcing them into risky situations. When meeting someone you contacted on the Internet, it is always good to meet in a well lit public place. Let someone know where you are going to be. Keep an electronic record of communications with that person. This applies whether you are looking to "hook up" or buying a stereo from an Internet ad. Martin Luther King said "to ignore evil is to become an accomplice to it." Those that don't stand up and speak on behalf of our gay brothers and sisters are complicit in the crimes against them.

Comment: Sending the family of this youngman my deepest sympathy. This is a death that did not have to happen.
Whats even sadder is if and when prosecuted, the perpetrators will cry foul when other inmates go after them.
I clicked past the Tyra Banks show a few days ago and the subject matter dealt with hate crimes. A family of bible thumping folks were spewing hate about gays. I think Tyra would have taken old girl out if she had said the N word. These folks are coming to the surface and violent acts are getting worse and worse.
