Comment: Very insightful article my brotha. So many of our people blame the gangs for the deterioration of their communities. You point to stuff sent into Black communities to facility and even spark their madness. Since the so-called war on terror seeks to cut off the money flow from funding organizations to on-the-ground terrorists, then Homeland Insecurity should seek to cut off drugs and weapons to gang members. Just this morning i finished a book by an ex-LAPD officer Brian S. Bentley called One Time. His best boyhood friend became a gang member. When Bentley graduated from police academy he went to Ray's house and showed Ray his police gun. Here is the chilling excerpt from page 213: "Ray then reached under his bed and pulled out a "fully loaded AK-47 %*$ault rifle with a thirty-round magazine. 'This is what the Rolling Sixties Crips carry on duty!' Ray again reached underneath his bed. This time he pulled out two Tac 9, thirty-five round automatic handguns. 'This is what i carry when i'm off duty, just hanging out at the mall.'" My point is how in the heck can each member of a gang have that many weapons when there are no gunshops in their neighborhood? Like you mentioned before the 1980's gangs had very few guns. The government needs to stop themselves and/or whomever it is that is supplying gangs with their arsenals.

Comment: The gangs on the street are simply a manifestation of a much deeper rot in our society. DJ correctly pointed out the War on Drugs is a war against African American youth. With the demise of the Soviet Union America no longer had a viable enemy that required billions of dollars for the military industrial complex. The drug trade could not exist if the billions upon billions of dollars were not laundered through American banks. Everyone from high level gov't officials to law enforcement are getting their cut. My point is that there is a vested interest in locking up black men and women. We all have a target painted on our backs!!!

Comment: Hi Darryl, I haven't read part 1 & 2 of your story so I am not sure if you have mentioned him (especially since you are a Chicago Son) But have you viewed the Larry Hoover Story?

Comment: Hi Sexee--no I didn't mention him, because there's some discrepancy about his actual status and past. But I haven't seen his story--is it out on DVD?
