Name: TinayPretty
Comment: Sounds like a HOTTTTTTT Club!!!!

Name: huey
Comment: katgrrrl , prince has already been inducted in the r&rhall of fame in 2004

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Keep doing your thing Prince!!!!katgirrrl, Prince underrated? girl I gotta disagree with that. He's earned his place in music history. Also, he was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. But, I do agree that he's a gifted musician and artist :-}

Name: huey
Comment: i must say, off the topic a bit, maybe it's just me, but whenever a negrodian artist reaches a certain level of success, now, all of sudden, he or she is inducted in the so called "rock and roll hall of fame". now, im sure those artist are proud to be inducted. BUT, what makes the rock and roll hall of fame "the place to be inducted" to proove you are legit. shyt, negros have known for years how bad prince is and was. we came up on his stuff, back when he opened for rick james and rick fired him not long after for stealing his shows. most white folks didnt get hip to prince until "purple rain". well by then, prince had moved onto "the revolution" post andre cymone on b%*$ and dez dickenson on lead, which brings me to another point. prior to cd's, when u went to the record store, you would locate prince, sade, the jacksons, etc etc, in the "r&b" or "soul" catagory, but once they reached a level of so called success, then they were "coveniently" relocted to the "pop" or "rock and roll" catagory of the record store. then i cant find the mothereffin music no more. anybody care to back me on this or do yall fell im off course. just one brohammerheads opionion.

Name: Platinum
Comment: You go Prince….THE KING OF POP ROCKS!

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Huey, I hear you. The same way most of 'em couldn't appreciate James Brown until he reached damn near retirement age, now all of a sudden he became validated.

Name: AquaBoogie
Comment: Speaking of Witnesses, a few days ago one of those JWs actually tried to preach to me from the passenger side of a car! Hope that's the last time I experience a drive-by witnessing...

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: huey>I agree with most of your post. We have many great artists that have yet to grace the R.R.H.F. That's why we need our own. But I don't know how much of that would apply to Prince. If my history serves me correct Prince started as a crossover artist. He was more of a rock and roll artist with a R&B twist. I forget who he toured with first, but he also toured with the Rolling Stones and that was during the Dirty Mind album, pre 1999. I don't know about your record stores but down south Prince is still filed under R&B.

Name: huey
Comment: Southernbelle. i respectfully disagree, yes, prince did open for the stones during his first al-blum, which was titled "for you", had a cut called "soft and wet". this was prior to the ablum called "prince", which had the first big hit uptown on it. the stones shortlived gig was prior to the opening act for rick james, after that, prince opened his own show. also, prince's sound, debatebly, was funk. it was based upon the heavy b%*$ lines that we black folk all know and love. now, we ALL know, white folks and NEVER really dug no b%*$. they thang was the "screaming lead" guitar. now, if we talking bout rock and roll, sure prince was wicked on lead, but the back bone of nearly every up-beat prince song was based heavily upon a deep reasonant b%*$ line. and if u go back and play every upbeat prince song in his catalog, you will find this to be true. thus is the primise of my entire aurgument as pertains to prince and rock and roll. sure, some of his stuff had elements of rock, but, he was not a rocker in my opionion. he was a funky guitar player who had elements of rock in his music, but the music was built upon a heavily driven b%*$ backing, which is what drew blacks to him. if he was a rocker, he would have been nothing more (and not to cast desperity on these artist) mothersfinist, and other black artist whom indeed, did play purely rock music). anyone disagree about my prince history? chime in.

Name: huey
Comment: not sure why eur, keeps blowing through the word bayse...i had to spell it differently to get it through..gee wizzz

Name: huey
Comment: and to back my argument on prince and bayse, his mentor, and he has said so for years, is the great larry graham. now anyone worth their salt in black funk and r&b music KNOWS what im talking bout. if prince was a rocker, and they where his major influence, i dont think he would have chosen the creator of "thump and pluck" as a mentor and the person he credits with having shaped his bayse playing. and anyone who know prince history, knows, he is just as incredible on bayse as he is on lead.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Huey you are right and Southernbelle you are right also. But I'm going heavily with Huey on this one, Prince was under R&B, but if I remember correctly, he did not become a crossover artist until "Little Red Corvette" was out, (after MTV started airing his video). Then after "Purple Rain" brother was everywhere. All I know is, when do they open and when can I buy my ticket to Vegas?

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Hell Yes! Larry Graham and Graham Central Station was the shyt!!! Tell 'em Huey!! Now Can You Handle That???!!! Oooh, you gonna make me pull out some CD'S...

Name: huey
Comment: i hear ya MediaAgent, i had just had to add this, cause i luv me some prince, yall remember the opening licks to "contraversy"...memba dat bayse guitar thumping to the same beat as that bayse drum? nothing else, the bayse guitar and the bayse drum...boom,boom boom, boom, boom, boom, and then that lead guitar picking come in...shyyyyyt...i almost gave myself brain damage banging my head to hard that b%*$ line when i was high ...whew..

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Huey, my part was the middle instrumental, with the synthesizers and the drums and the base. My other song was "Jack U Off". Remember "Let's Work"? That was my Jam also. Now when we get to the 1999 album, there are just too many cuts, but my favorites? "Something in the Water", "Let's Pretend We're Married" and of course "1999". But "DMSR" RULED IN MY HOUSE!!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Huey, remember "Head"? What album was that cut from? I can't remember...

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Oops, I meant the "b%*$" LOL!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: damm EUR, I meant the "bayse"

Name: huey
Comment: i hear MediaAgent ,,and i respectfully challange most white folks (pre-purple rain) to have any idea what ya talking bout, that would like to align prince as a rocker. cause every song you mentioned was driven upon some of the funkiest bayse licks EVER laid down on wax....shyyyyyytt, MediaAgent , if they dont know they betta "ax" somebody...

Name: RealGAPeach
Comment: I wouldn't think Prince owing/operating a night club would go against his faith. It is a conscious decision. Considering the beliefs and knowing the type of things that happen in the club atomsphere evidently his faith is such that he won't be bothered by the drugs and immorality presented or the creating of that type of environment

Name: huey
Comment: head was off of the "dirty mind" al-blum, circa 1990: 1. Dirty Mind Listen Listen 2. When You Were Mine Listen Listen 3. Do It All Night Listen Listen 4. Gotta Broken Heart Again Listen Listen 5. Uptown Listen Listen 6. Head Listen Listen 7. Sister Listen Listen 8. Partyup

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Partyup! That's the one! I loved that one as well. Mind you, I was all of 12 listening to Prince! LOL! And I understood everything he was saying. I hear ya Huey, it's like with Michael Jackson, if YT know anything about him it's after Thriller / maybe Off The Wall. They can't name anything he made off his Michael Jackson album, (when he was 16). You remember "Just a Little Bit Of You"? Now THAT's the Michael I know. That was a major cut in the R&B world, but how many people know or remember Michael as a normal person? Same with Prince.

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Thanx Huey & SouthernBelle, I didn't know he was already inducted. I'm sittin' right in front of a computer. All I had to do was look it up... Anywho, yes, I say Prince is underrated as a musician cos all I ever hear people talkin' about when it comes to him is his feminity, flamboyant dress sense or some other B.S. Rarely ever the music except from other musicians. Huey, no need to get all up in arms over my bringin' up the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Should I have said The Black Rock Coalition? No shyt, we knew how bad he was from day one as we do with most if not all of OUR entertainers. The first time I ever heard of him was the song "Controversy" n' only the R&B stations were playin' him. But, he's been a crossover artist for a looooong time now, he became a bit more Rock & Roll which is why The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was the first thing to come to mind. As for our artist being relocated to the "pop" catagory once they've reached a level of success, "pop" is short for popular. So, yes, once they become popular, they're gonna be put in that category. And even though it's called the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame which makes me think YT music/artists, 6 of the 10 of the first group of inductees are Black artists (did my research this time). The first woman to be inducted was Aretha. They coulda picked Janice Joplin or Stevie Nicks, Heart or anybody else, but no, it's Aretha who I never considered Rock & Roll, but hey... I can see where you're comin' from though cos I feel the same way about the Oscars. Cicely Tyson has (been nominated, but...) never won one and she's better than 99.9% of the people who have. So I've always seen the Oscars as THEIR party. But maybe the RRHF ain't just a YT thing, but a talent thing.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Uhh, Huey, I think you mean "Dirty Mind" circa 1980...LOL.

Name: huey
Comment: u right on point MediaAgent , u right on point.

Name: huey
Comment: my bad MediaAgent ...gotta typing too fast and hit the "9" instead of the "8"...we gotta keep the history tight LOL

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: No problem baby, I understand, type too fast myself..LOL. Now I got another one...Why don't BET have their own R&B hall of fame? We gotta wait until VH1 jump on it? And screw it up? Same with Soul Train Awards, never give the awards to right individuals: Where's the awards for Ray, Goodman and Brown, Commodores, Earth, Wind and Fire, Crusaders, Chi-Lites, Billy Paul, Honeycomb, Cameo, Switch, I could go on and on...Debarge, Sister Sledge, Chic, I mean DAMM, we have some major legacy here that is being passed over!! The Sly Stone tribute was a joke last year on the Grammys! How in the hell you going to get Ciara and Areosmith to salute Sly??!! You feel me Huey?

Name: SweetieDarlin
Comment: Man, I love my boy Prince, I've loved him since his article in Right On magazine circa 1979 when dude was asked what instrument he wanted to play next since he played so many, he replied that he wanted to play the grass, loved his wicked sense of humor and music. Remember first hearing soft and wet and kinda giggling about what he meant (ahhh the era before blatant sexuality...)

Name: huey
Comment: I feel ya!!! and i raise ya one...i want to see a "where are they now" on all of those bands you just mentioned, not just the nostalgia members that are playing actively. i mean the o.g.'s who started the bands if they are still alive. i want to know how they started the bands, what it was like backstage, the groupies, the love from the black fan base..errrrthang!!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: SweetieDarlin> I remember that article! Ahh, the memories! :)

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: I know, I had a concept of that about two years ago...I heard Robert Townsend had and idea like that that he was brining to Black Family Channel. NOTHING so far. I mean, come on, people are passing all the time, it's time to get this before Ken Burns children do a PBS acclaimed special, and once again, we lose it. I saw a PBS special on Prince once, it was fantasic! Let me find out what it was called, I'll be right back...

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: Hey again Huey, I agree with what ya said about the funk thing. I also agree with Southernbelle with the rock thing. Maybe he introduced some new stuff, funk/rock. As for what ya said about the b%*$, yeah, a lot of it was b a ss driven. With the exception of one song which was a BIG hit for him. "When Doves Cry". No b a ss on that tune.

Name: Pammy
Comment: Huey and MediaAgent, you guys KNOW what you are talkin about. I've been a fan of Prince since "For You" came out in 1978!. By the way, Uptown was on the Dirty Mind Album which my mother would not let me own cuz Prince was wearing those black draws with the open leather jacket....Huey, I almost bust my head open to the "Controversy" beat and the mantra...."People call me rude, I wish we all were nude, I wish there were no black or white, I wish there were no rules"...

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: huey>I won't touch the subject of his b%*$ playing and whether or not it makes him more of a R&B artist as oppose to rock and roll artist. I'm not that musically literate lol. I do know he admired Larry Graham but he also sampled Jimi Henedrix's style. I'm going off of perception only. For as long as I can remember Prince's fan base was predominatly white. I was too young to know Prince during his "Soft and Wet" days. Well, I knew him but my parents wouldn't allow me to listen to his music lol.

Name: chocolattechile
Comment: Prince may be taking Sin City by storm - and opening a nightclub in the Rio's former Club Rio space, according to rumors in a Las Vegas Review Journal column. The artist would reportedly headline the club part of the time, and use the club to showcase acts he's signed the rest of the time. His most recent album, 3121, released in March 2006, could provide some details about the venue, as columnist Norm Clarke said the artist may charge a $31.21 entrance fee most nights. The column also reported that the topless revue that opened in February 2005 at Club Rio, Club Erocktica, was given two days notice to close October 20. Club Erocktica is not currently listed on the Rio's Web site event calendar. A Rio representative confirmed the revue was closing until further notice. A flash graphic on Prince's new Web site, 3121.com, shows a red-and-blue lit casino bearing the moniker The Rio, proceeding to a montage of photos of Prince and various artists before the final frame, which reads November 2006. Prince's publicist could not be reached at press time

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Awww shyt!! Go Pammy!!!! "Do I believe in God, Do I believe in Me?...*Let Me Tell You*, some people want to die, so they can be freee! Oooh! I'm pulling Controversy out tonight!!!

Name: yasmine1
Comment: BIG UP TO PRINCE.. great idea. He use to have a club in South Beach back in the mid-90's. that club was slamming every week.. The club was called Glam Sam.. their Sunday reggae nights was off the chain..peeps flew from Jamaica to jam.. I wish him good luck.. he has matured as a man...which is great to see.

Name: huey
Comment: i hear ya Southernbelle, if ya ever have time, go back and pick up his first al-blums, and dig that bayse..it will make ya pass out it was so funky. and respectfully,i have to tell ya. i went to every prince show possible, and in the bigging, the fan bayse was prodominently black folk. that was in the beginning, when he use to wear the drawers and the waste high , high heeled boots. very few whites showed up until he hit the "little red corvette" ere. and yes, some of the guitar was in fact influenced by jimi.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: ALL I WANT IS A POSTER OF PRINCE WEARING THAT AFRO. THAT IS THE SEXIEST PICTURE I HAVE EVER SEEN OF HIS. I'LL PUT IT RIGHT NEXT TO MY JIMI HENDRIX POSTER.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Huey, I know what you mean, NEVER seen nothing but a handful of YT at his concerts. Did you see his last one the Musicology tour? MAN!! I went to 5 Shows..all three here in NYC and one in New Jersey and one in Philly. Off the meat rack!!! Prince dances and parties straight for like 2 1/2 hours. You lose serious weight going to his shows. And don't go not knowing the words to his songs, when he calls out YOU BETTER ANSWER!! HE WILL BLOW YOU UP ON THE SPOT!! LOL!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Name of PBS special was the River of Song...that was it. It was about Minneapolis, but the last hour focused on Prince, Time, and Sounds of blackness.

Name: Pammy
Comment: Thank you MediaAgent. I didn't know about River of Song. I wonder if you can get it on DVD.

Name: huey
Comment: sure did MediaAgent , was at the second night (sat) of the philly wachovia center show. in the nose bleed section, but i partied just as hard as those that had front row seats...what a show!! bought the dvd "live at the aladdin also...a must have if ya dont have it...the show was done in 2003

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Honey I have Live at the Aladdin, Rave u2 the joy (something like that), I have the grammy performaces (2005, 1985), I also have the One Night Alone CD. that's fantastic. Was Wachovia rocking or what? Here in NYC the first day of concert it was raining. When he ended with Purple Rain, everyone had their umbrellas in the air, not worrying about any superstition regarding bad luck. It was great experience. I'm saving up for 2008 cause baby boy will be rocking for his 50th, I know it. AND I INTEND ON BEING AT LEAST 6 SHOWS!!!

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: huey> Yeah, I remember the picture of him in briefs. That's why my parents wouldn't allow me to listen to his music. I was too young for the dirty little thoughts going through my mind.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Southernbelle> Not to mention there he was in black briefs in a shower, with a crucifix around his neck. My family had a fit also..

Name: Victornator
Comment: I stated at Rio in 2004. The spot it huge. If done right, this could be one of the best all-inclusive spots in the world.

Name: Pammy
Comment: Wow MediaAgent, I was at that Prince concert in NYC too! It was sooooo much fun. I was hoarse from singing and screaming like a fool!

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: MediaAgent>I was in my eary teens when Prince came to town for the 1999 tour. My mom had to bring me b/c she knew what to expect from Prince. Girl, when Prince performed International Lover and brought that bed onstage she was through. I couldn't enjoy most of the show b/c she had my eyes covered lol.

Name: huey
Comment: shyyytt,,yall aint said nuttin, i had the dayum poster hanging up in my first apartment, and im a dayumm dude lol. he**, the women that came by said i was more sensitve to their needs, especially since i had this naked negro poster hanging in my bachor pad...hahaha, anythang to get a peice brothers, anythang to get a peice, dont hate the playa , hate the game...LOL

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: HUEY YOU A MESS!! LOL!!! You knew what time it was!LOL!! Pammy, was that concert not the shyt? I was in tears cause I felt 18 again...the last time I had saw him was the Puple Rain Tour back in '85, so I was loving it! Was it not packed? There were people from like 65 years of age to 5! It was great!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: what was even funnier were people who had their purple rain and controversy shirts, some had to be altered cause they couldn't quite squeeze into them...I had my brown raincoat, cause I was down before the purple rain era...although in '85 I had the purple raincoat and a purple body stocking underneath. Complete with purple bra and bikini...I was a mess!

Name: huey
Comment: i purchased one of the purple rain jackets back in the day, my girlfriend, at the time, said she wouldnt go out with me with "that ridicoulous looking jacket" on..i thought about for a minute, and broke up with the bytch, and wore my jacket to the night club....

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: I ain't mad at you huey. I had Vanity Six hanging up in my room LOL.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Dang, I didn't have the purple jacket. But, I did sport the lace over one eye and lace gloves along with my Prince muscle shirt. The one with him on his motorcycle.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Southernbelle>>>couldn't tell me that I wasn't Appollonia! When I graduated from HS, I had a pink lace dress complete with peplum in the bootie and pink lace gloves. Mind you, Apppolonia was a size 7 and I was a size 8 and one cup size bigger...couldn't tell me shyt!

Name: My2Pennies
Comment: Prince had a Glam Slam club also in Los Angeles in the mid 80's.

Name: Pammy
Comment: MediaAgent, I had my lace gloves on with the fingers cut out and the lace thingy over one eye with the purple bustier. *singing* "And when I met you baby, you were on your way to be wed, you're such a sexy thang, love the way you look, things you said, I was so non-chalant, didn't want u to be mis-lead, but I gots ta have ya baby, got ta have ya in my bed! Wooooo! I might have to have a Prince-a-thon tonight.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Pammy>>you and me both. Have you ever heard Prince Radio on AOL? That's what I'm rocking tonight.

Name: Pammy
Comment: MediaAgent...PRINCE RADIO????!!!! How do I access it on AOL? This is great!

Name: huey
Comment: if i am correct it is on the aol menu, under xm radio, is that right mediagent?

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: Yep. Huey's right!

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: The thing is, I don't think they play too many of the risque songs, but they have a serious playlist of songs from albums/CD's not well known. I like it.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: I see that it is confirmed, brotha will be playing vegas. Tickets go on sale this week. I'm going to see if I can get shows for January. I wanted to go to Vegas next year anyway.

Name: Pammy
Comment: Thanks Huey and MediaAgent. I'm trying to access the radio station now. Were y'all at the free concert in Bryant Park this summer? I stood outside the park with a bunch of other folks from 4:30am til they let us in.

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: No, I said that I had seen him enough times to let the free concert go...I was not about to get into a shoving match with folks...But I did tape it.

Name: Pammy
Comment: MediaAgent, it was really nice. No pushing and shoving or anything. Folks brought their kids and everybody was helpful to each other. I was shocked, Prince fans are generally a nice bunch (smile)

Name: MediaAgent
Comment: That is true, Prince fans are cool. I guess I was just not in the mood for a crowd...sometimes can get the best of me. But I wanted to go. However, I did my time with 4am wakeup calls and getting tickets that early (remember when ticketmaster used to give you arm bracelets)? Been there done that!

Name: OriginalCharlette
Comment: Hey Prince I have never visited Vegas, however, I am scheduled to sing in USA Vegas Showcase, and look forward to seeing you sing as well ! Although I am a gospel fan, praying for you and would love to see you in concert. Haven't been to your concert for years. Original Miss
