Comment: I have never heard of Mr. Ridley nor do I read the publications "Time" or "Esquire," but Mr. Ridley definitely is an assimilationist who has clearly forgotten how he is viewed in this country by white folks -- as a N*****. To clearly spout such vile, evil, and ignorant words toward those in our community who have systematically through sociopolitical forces been kept on the bottom in the perpetual underclass is astounding and sad. It pains to me to hear and read affluent blacks distance themselves from lower class blacks using the same reasonings our oppressors have used for centuries creating a fabricated 'us' vs. 'them' mentally (read -- house n***** and field n*****). No matter how high his examples, Condeleeza Rice and Colin Powell, ascend in American politics, to white folks they are the EXCEPTION whose very existence and movements are watched. Should they deviate from the accepted behavior or do anything 'too black,' their honorary white status will be revoked...just ask O.J. and Michael Jackson. Mr. Ridley is just continuing to play into the madness. Never will we rise as people when we have folks within the community like Mr. Ridley who willingly do the bidding of the oppressors. Willie Lynch is alive in well y'all...he ain't never left.

Comment: Well, Rice went to the Middle East because it was her damn job to go to the Middle East. She didn't go to New Orleans because Hurricane relief and recovery wasn't in her job description.
Had she been in charge of hurricane relief during that crisis, I can assure you, Katrina would have been handled a lot better than it was. Unfortunately, FEMA was not a division of the Department of State, and we were left with "Brownie". Which was somewhat astonishing because FEMA's peformance in Florida in 2004 was nothing short of outstanding. Under the same "Brownie" I should add.
As to Ridley's article, he makes a reach by conflating the Cincinnatti rioting with the Hanna Spy Plane affair, which was resolved due to careful diplomacy by Condi and Powell. The piece was well written by Ridley, but a poorly reasoned attempt to make Ridley's point, and fails in the end to make it.
Rice will be fine. When Giuliani is nominated, he will probably pick her as his Vice-Presidential nominee. Normally, Rudy would pick Jeb, whose stewardship of Florida has left my state with a multibillion dollar surplus. However, Hillary will do the blindingly predictable thing and pick Barack as the running mate, so Rudy will answer with Condi.
