Comment: Boys will be boys. Get out the way and let boys be boys. Professional contact sports call for being rough, being ready to rumble. Sometimes emotion spills over in the heat of "controlled" battle (an oxymoron if ever!). So what, they fought. Big deal. Happens everyday in school, in the neighborhood. Been happening, gonna keep on happening. It's the way of the world, this boys being boys thing.

Comment: um, the last time i checked, touching is, was, and shall always be CONTACT...merely gently rubbing your baby's face is CONTACT...as such, being allowed to use your arms to GUARD, to play DEFENSE, as is done day AND night in basketball IS CONTACT, thus, basketball IS a contact sport...and as a result of that contact, things can and do get out of hand...and as for my boys being boys statement, people know perfectly well that though we are grown adults we nonetheless carry around an INNER CHILD, ipso facto, boys will be boys...you know perfectly well what i mean, so quit knit-picking, and please cut out the unsophisticated mock shock...i ain't trippin' on you, i'm just sayin' BE REAL, we lose our heads sometime, we lose our cool, we get caught up in the heat of the moment...WE ARE HUMAN...and so is Melo and the other merrymen who participated

Comment: ...and since i'm on a roll, i'll also enligthen you with this little tid-bit: REBOUNDING, i.e., jostling, hustling, reaching, jumping for the ball under the goald after a shot is missed, IS intentional contact, sometimes rougher than rough, especially when you very deliberately, very purposely bump the hell out of somebody when they're on their way down...so, again, the case is made that basketball IS a contact sport...you stand very, very corrected, thank you vey much...so glad to have awakened you from your polite ignorance...don't you feel better now? i'm just playin', just teasin'...but there is a whole helluva lot of contact goin' on in b-ball...feel me?

Comment: Carmelo and these other young players always wake up THE DAY AFTER. Good manners and personal pride have to be IN YOU; you can't put it on and off like a pair of shoes. This altercation comes as no surprise and I think these guys would be better off being recruited into a tutoring program on how to socialize with people different from them. If they don't get it together, they will end up in the has-been pile w/all the other NBA LOSERS!

Comment: mseffy, it gonna be a sad day when they run all the black players outta the NBA and replace them with white foreigners who're being groomed as we speak. All they have to do is take a look at baseball. Talk about sorry...wait until their money dwindles and the white women follow the trail elsewhere. These guys will become suicidal.

Comment: I couldn't believe Carmelo did the Jamie Foxx "club punch"! He looked like he was saying, "Quit playin'! Quit playin'!" to Jeffries while he was doing the speedy backpedal.
I agree with you MelodyCool, these players can't keep thinking that they're not expendable, because I can see on those racist YouTube message boards how the white NBA fans REALLY feel about these Black players.

Comment: MelodyCool, I think you've got a point. I always thought the fellas would just price themselves out of the market, sort of like the Tom Cruise/Sumner Redstone thang.
Michele, you also made a point that I couldn't resist passing on: There are droves of racists coming out of the woodwork on YouTube message boards. I think it's a lot of snot-nose white boys who are a mad that black dudes are makin' mega-bucks from sports and/or art. They're jealous of SOME black men's sexual prowess and raw athleticism. I've got a YouTube site (anti-establishment, anti-corporate, iconoclastic, comedic videos and social commentary), and I got my first outright, unabashed racist remark Sunday. That's in addition to the tripe that I've come across on the message board. One guy said all blacks have very little cognitive ability, and instead of cussing and fussing, I kindly directed him to my site and said to him that if you can't see that what you're saying is disproven, then you WANT to be racist!

Comment: OMG! I can't believe it, but the day has come when I actually agree with DCGG!!!!!! LOL!!! I, for one, am with her, Fran and michaelollie. I believe that a lot of the responses here and elsewhere are from people who have never really played sports or played anything really competitively. This is not to condone anyone's actions, however, there has to be a measure of passion and emotion when playing and sometimes it gets the best of you and it goes negatively. So, for that, I really do believe--what's the big deal? Please don't say the children 'cause that's just a myth as if children don't see worse in real life or can't be taught that's not the way you want to go. Fine them and suspend for a few games and move on. Every other sport there is fighting--you ever watch a baseball game where the whole damn dugout comes out including managers etc. and there's no big stink, I won't even go into hockey. I do believe there's a measure of racism in calling out basketball players, but I don't even think I want to go there. They actually even glorify the hits in baseball and hockey so WHY are these guys thugs and the other athletes aren't ?? Gimme a break.

Comment: Jamer I said the EXACT same thing. Even when I saw it on the news, it didn't even give me the slightest rise of alarm. Why people act as if athletes are not conditioned to be agressive is beyond me. Then to expect these same agressive not be overly agressive and WRONG at times is ridiculous. Unfortunately, this gives the media AND blacks a reason to thumb down their noses. A fight of this magnitude happens very seldom (if at all) in a regular NBA season. Compare that w/hockey. Go figure!

Comment: Maybe if David Stern would stop taking all the fun out of the sh!t by clamping down on physical play they wouldn’t be so inclined to fight. It used to be that if you got mad at somebody you just gave’em a hard foul on the next play. But these days EVERYTHING is flagrant. People try to say that today’s players are thugs but that is SO NOT TRUE. The current players in the NBA are the sweetest crop they’ve had in a long time. They don’t play nearly as rough and tumble as some of the old players like Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman, Charles Oakley/Smith/Barkley, Alonzo Mourning (before everybody felt sorry for his kidney disease), Larry Johnson, Mookie Blaylock, Derrick Coleman, sh!t even Shawn Kemp was a monster. I can go on and on but you get my point. Ron Artest is not rough, Anthony Mason was a rough! Back then that was some real hard play! Plus, if emotions run high, there are bound to be physical altercations. At least that shows they care about who wins or loses. To me, that matters a lot.

Comment: SOME OF YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK! For those who said basketball is not a contact sport is a muthafuckkin' lie! You obviously have NEVER PLAYED THE SPORT IN YOUR LIFE! Basketball is a CONTACT sport and football is a COLLISION sport. Let's get that straight RIGHT NOW! Ask anyone who plays basketball and they will tell you it is contact. "SOME" of y'all are talkin' out of your necks. Y'all got the nerve to call Melo a bich? GET THE FUCKK OUTTA HERE! If you have ever faught, you STICK AND MOVE! That is exactly what Melo did. He took or on Collins' jaw and stepped back. Y'all old azz women act like y'all would have DIVED IN A GOT DAMN BRAWL! MUTHAFUCKKA PLEEZE! Do you guys actually look at the entire picture before you speak? I'm not justifying the fight, but come on now!

Comment: WOW! Is it that serious! MelodyCool made a great observation. Look at baseball. There's way more contact (brawls) in that sport than basketball. Fines and suspensions are not as stiff, look at the people playing. I will take it back to Junior High, Oh Please, the team mates fought with each other, much less the defending team and this is the girls team. That is just how it goes. Something jumps off, you fight, you go home, you go to practice next day, coach tells you don't do that, you say "okay", next game.
Whateva!! People will be people.

Comment: ez3372, I do agree that you duke it out to some extent, but look at the bigger picture. The NBA does not allow you to fight like hockey. In basketball, you're lucky if 2 punches get thrown without it being stopped. Lala ugly? At least you admitted that you're hatin'! LOL!

Comment: TesticAl, I wasn't being facetious when I said he'll enjoy the time off cause he got a phat babe and probably two more on the side, so yeah, he WILL enjoy his time off. But as far as the fight went, he was a punk. If look at Melo as he was planning his sucker punch, it was an offensive (vs. defensive) move. He looked and searched for the right time to get it in. And after he did it he didn't go into defensive mode for the comeback. He ran.

Comment: Despite what I said earlier, I do agree w/you all on the agressive nature of the game and the players too. HOWEVER, I never remember Michael Jordan getting suspended like this. Comment: mseffy, Michael didn't get suspended because the league didn't suspend players like that back then. I know you remember Mike getting into fights though. He had multiple scuffles with Reggie Miller, Charles Oakley, Bill Laimbeer, etc. Besides, the league wouldn't suspend him for long anyway. He was the golden child.

Comment: Carmelo is gonna lose @$600,000. Imagine what he could have done with all that! So what if he has millions to throw away...that amount of money is nothing to sneeze at. The book "$40 Million Dollar Slaves" explains how whites are gonna strip those idiots of their money and leave them hanging in the wind. Carmelo once got into a fight with another black dude over this nasty arse Lala. Let him lose his money and his contract and he'll certainly lose her too. I often marvel at the difference in reactions to fights in baseball and hockey and throw it up to whites whenever they step up talking about incidents such as this. It doesn't matter because they always have a way of justifying their dirt. Black baseball players have been phased out and basketball is next. Believe dat! After they lost at the Olympics the first time Larry Bird started talking about more white players should be in the NBA. Even Michael Jordan is involved in developing white Euro players who he says grasp the fundamentals better than Americans (meaning blacks). When all that glory is gone there's no telling how these fools will react because the nonblack women will scatter since they consider them dummies anyway. I hope they don't get desperate like OJ.

Comment: TesticAl...keep dreaming that the sport is in no danger. Then again...the sport is in no danger but black players are on their way out, and it's gonna hurt like hell since they buy into white supremacy and won't be able to afford it. Personally I couldn't give a rass what happens to them!
