It would be more accepted in the black community if more people would be honest instead of having us wonder about their sexuality. Comment: My first response to the headline was... "Oh Shyt!" Yet, after reading some of the post and reading the article I'm now left to say "oh no, here we go again." This is definitely a hot topic that keeps reintroducing itself on this board which says a lot. Could it be that it's time that we, the black community, really look at this and make an intelligent decision as to how we're going to deal? Clearly there is a lot of homophobia in the black community (yes, I think more than any other race) and in all honesty you people ARE entitled to feel whoever they want to feel - but this needs to be addressed. We all live on this planet together... And, Sheriberi, there have been several incident of hate activity against black gay males and lesbians that have resulted in brutal death via black straigh males. I'm sorry you haven't heard about them. There are many black families that have disowned their siblings, offsprings, cousins, etc because they are gay. This is a serious issue. Moreover, if not for any other reason we need to discuss this because of the transference of the HIV to our black women. What are we going to do? Seriously? It's time to look at the root of the issue. Why the deception? Why the lies? Why the shame? Why the fear? Why the harsh rebuke and hatred? And for those of you who choose to hide behind biblical scripture it's time to adapt a REAL Christ-like mind and seek resolution. This aint about whether if the gay-lifestyle is right or wrong - we waste to much time talking about that. I, personally, don't like the idea of a book like this coming out, but it is what it is. I know I ain't buying it.

Comment: I believe that not disclosing your preference to your partner is flat out wrong. However, the rise in HIV infections in black women is not solely due to DL men. Let's not forget that leading a promiscuous lifestyle as a heterosexual has its consequences. According to the CDC and others, at least 75% of new infections in black women occurred through heterosexual contact. We can argue all day the accuracy of that number, but the primary mode does not appear to be due to the DL phenomenon.

Comment: reading the comments on this topic is very interesting. Its seems like everyone agrees that people should be honest and be themselves. However, it also seems like many have the attitude of do your thing, but I don't have to know about it; don't have it in my face.
Isn't it somewhat of a contradiction for me to ask people to be true to themselves, but don't make me uncomfortable with who you are?
Another question I have to ask, if the DL thing is nothing new, then why didn't HIV spread almost immediately to women after it hit blk gay men? Why a 15yr lag? Also, since STD rates among both heterosexual young blk men and women has sky rocketed in recent years, just how many heterosexual blk men who have not had sex with men are HIV positive? Since HIV tests are not required in many states for treatment of other STDs and since most blk men don't go to the doctor, do we really know this statistic? Also, since HIV is more common among blks, but blks are no more likely to be sexually active, and blk men are no more likely to be dl than men of other groups, its seems obvious that blk are just less likely to use condoms. Why are blks so adverse to condom use?

Comment: Whynotme, I don't have a problem substantiating my post. Case and point - a little over a year ago a young black gay guy was murdered in the Virginia area (I think). Apparently, he met another black guy over the net and they agreed to meet up. The gay guy went to pick up the guy at the designated area. Just moments after meeting up the stranger pulls a gun out and force the gay guy to drive to a designated area where his friends were waiting. They then took the guy into the woods, beat him, killed him and took his car. I believe either one or two of the attackers were caught. And when one of them was asked why he did it was because "he's a fag..t" A similar incident happened last summer here in NY where a black gay guy agreed to meet someone at a park only to get there and get attacked by a group of guys. In his effort to get away the gay ran into oncoming traffic and was killed. the only difference with this situation is the attackers were white. There was an incident just a few months ago where a house was shot-up in chicago because the residents were having a gay party. The locals were fed-up with "them" and decided to revolt. Luckily no one was killed. Now my question to you, Whynotme, why is this so hard to believe this? Black people have been killing each other for years via gang violence, gun-wars, drugs, domestic abuse and now HIV. Why are you having a hard time wrapping your mind around this possibility.

Comment: Reviewing these comments brought to mind a prison report I saw on MSNBC and there were two guys one obviously gay and his lover. His lover was a very nice looking guy. One many women would fall for and here he was sitting here talking about he's not gay. He only sleeps with this other guy out of survival while in prison. He was actually offended when the reporter told him sleeping with men made him gay. But he denied it to the end. All the while his lover was sitting there massaging his feet. I thought to myself here's someone that will re-enter our society in deep denial and jeopardize the life of some woman.

The large number of black men in prison and having sex with men but aren’t gay but just having sex to get their rocks off coming out of prison HIV+ and then passing the virus to their unsuspecting girlfriends/wifes. Third, black women need to insist on having protected sex and then you wouldn’t have this high rate of infection. Women have to take responsibility for the lives and if you feel the relationship is going some where go get tested together.

HIV/AIDS is being spread on many levels including:
1. People who have had/have multiple
partners.
2. People with histories of other
sexually transmitted diseases.
3. DL brothers and sisters.
4. Married folk who are tipping and
using protection.
What do you need to do?
Stop selling ourselves cheap and settling for a temporary thrill.
Stop sleeping with people that you just met and know nothing about.
Get out of relationships if your partner is sleeping around. You are literally putting your life at risk.
Or stop sleeping with the person. Believe it or not, I could live in a house with a creeping man and let him have his own wing (including bedroom and bath) and live happily. However, I would not touch him with a ten foot pole.

Comment: i have to agreee with musbdherbs, that show is so tired, where do they get these ignorant men from, they are not representing the majority of brothers, they are only displaying them again as negative,arrogant azzholes... if a white person watches this show it would only enforce the stereotype, that black men have issues with black women and each other, that one show where I watched, this double row teeth brother (front teeth i might add)who really thought he had it going on because he was ?, who said he only dates white women, because they take care of him, and he continued to demean the sisters and especially himself, it is a waste, I was really excited when it first debuted, but now,uh-uh... and I have watched 2 times and tried to watch the 3rd one, it is really tired, the topics are interesting, but where do they find the scrubs.....please find more intelligent men to represent. Like that little weasel with the bad teeth that said he does not date mouthy black women, I don't like to curse but I had to ask WTF?please improve the quality, it is a disservice to my black brothers , there are better pickings, than that, I'm sure, to sit on the show's discussion panel....As for as this black gay guy, I think it would behoove him to really keep his mouth shut, what is this going to prove, I won't be buying the book either if he does not name names, I can figure out who the DL brothers are in rap...Wendy Williams outed several, about 5 years ago, that is why she is so hated..ok well one of the reasons why...,

Comment: The covers are about to be snatched off the DL brothers. It's nothing new, now we will know for sure. Don't be made with the brother, he's only doing what he has to do. So many comments, will make one think, that alot of you just might be the same....but its your life, just stop killing the sistas...if a brotha turns you on...then stay there....
