Comment: There are no quick fixes but this is surely a step in the right direction, good for you Darryl, good for you. Now if folks would only pay attention and take heed.

Comment: I agree that the welfare system needs to change. I know a young woman who had two children outside of marriage by the time she was 19. She was on assistance. She got a parttime job and she was completely taken off of Welfare! The daycare costs alone were more than her pay! She had to quit the job in order to feed her kids! That makes no sense. Instead, why didn't the system deduct the amount of her take home pay from her alloted amount, thereby encouraging her to continue to work and establish a work history? But, I also know women who are on welfare who want to be stay at home moms. That's fine. But, I don't think society should have to support them. If I decide to stay at home, my husband and I have to figure out our finances and cut our budget to allow me to do that. WE support ourselves, our neighbors do not. And, I'm sorry. I really don't think the welfare system is so much to blame for so many unmarried mothers. These women were already chosing to be unmarried mothers. I don't think you can blame welfare for that.

Comment: Darryl, I have truly enjoyed this series and have shared it with many of my friends, it has lead to many interesting discussions. I totally agree with the points that you make about the Welfare system systematically setting up women and families for failure. The attack on fathers to repay the system rather than be a presence in their childrens lives is absolutely ridiculous as well.

Comment: Darryl, thank you so much for these series of articles. It is definately enlightening. I too have shared these articles with friends, although some don't completely agree it opens up the dialog to at least try to see things differently.

Comment: If we were REALLY concerned about our children, people wouldn't: a) have kids before they know the character of the people they're laying down with to potentially create babies, and b) if mama & daddy decide to go their separate ways, they would be civil about taking care of the kids, instead of fighting over pennies.
