All of you who weren't there at the time have no clue how horrible the entrenched racism of this country was, and not just in the south. Films and books of the time just don't convey it. Comment: I'm not PC person at all, but I do live in Austin and regardless of whether or not the comment was in support of Sen. Obama or not, the remark did not need to be made over the air. They must have felt the same way to some degree, otherwise they wouldn't have cut to commercial so fast.
Sammy could have found another way to poke fun at Biden. Period. "Clean darkie" wasn't the way to do it.

Without seeing or hearing the full conversation, I can't make that %*$essment. But at first glance, it doesn't sound like he was personally being racist. I don't know, maybe I need to read it again.

My concern is that it is becoming increasingly likely that *someone* will be offended when something is said. If we cut back our public speech until no-one can be offended, we've pretty well gagged ourselves from saying anything. Is there not an obligation on the part of the listener to really hear and understand a comment before reacting? Is there not an obligation to tolerate a certain level of offense in furtherance of communicating with one another? Too many seem to be feigning offense to try to manipulate or shut down the conversation rather than being genuinely offended (I don't include your thoughtful comments). Remember, Dr. King offended a lot of people every time he opened his mouth.

Comment: I don't think dude was being racist. He was refering to Biden's comment, and that is really what Biden was inferring. That being said, of course it is offensive bc he said "darky" instead of black man. . However as he has the right to say it others have the right to complain. I for one am not offended bc I think he just said it for effect and to me it speaks more to Biden's comments than to Obama himself.

Comment: White men can and do often speak intelligently. Unfortunately they are restricted by what can be said due to thin skinned blacks. They speak on their own and could be more eloquent if they like the bruthers could hide their srew ups behind black skin as an excuse for poor diction or poor behavior.
