Comment: I am glad that I am not the only one who fails to see why this song gets so much love. The lyrics are weak as well. It bothers me that so-called black radio spends so much time playing this song, when a talented young brother like Van Hunt gets no play. Hunt's last album, "On the Jungle Floor" has so many great songs that contained beautiful lyrics, and music with texture too it, not a simple mundane riff like Thicke's song. The music biz and radio are a joke.

Comment: sometimes WE can act just as bad as white folks. Robin Thicke has been out for awhile now this is his 2nd Album. Just so you know he was mainly a writer and producer for a lot of BLACK artist that are out now... He has wrote a few tunes for Usher, Mary J. Blidge just to name a few. His production skills are awesome. We as African Americans need to stop using race as a excuse ALL the time to debate a issue. Example: Now if we heard a white person say something negative or race related about Tina Turner like why is that Black Women singing rock music and stealing our sound! As African Americans we would be ready to fight! We talk about white folks and all that they do but as African Americans we turn around and do the same thing.. So don't be made Because GOD is Blessing the man to prosper. It's called FAVOR. This is what happens when GOD opens up the windows of heaven and pours out blessings that we dont have room to RECEIVE. Instead of hating on one another... Congradulate the man....

Comment: Thanks, DCGG, for educating thatlilboy a lil. As far as the song goes, his label has certainly pumped it successfully cause it's grown consistently (from underground video curiosity to urban radio hit) since summer. And having seen his wife, I can understand the (punkish) lyrical content a little better.

Comment: Is it possible that songs get radio play not based on the song/artist but based on which superproducer produced the song. I heard Pharrell (Neptunes) bought his contract from another label who wasn't utilizing him and BAM! - "Lost Without You!!!"

Comment: I personally don't care what color an artist is. If the music is good you can have my money. Come to think of it I just puchase the following disk online:
Simply Red - Stay - kick %*$ cd
Alan Thicke - this album is really good
Amy Winehouse the girl sounds like Ella!
On a lighter note, I would love to see Kem receive some type of accolades! This brother's cd is the bomb and the man can really sing!

Comment: Timmdogg,
I'm with you. I'll have to check out that Amy Winehouse. Too everybody else, don't front like you don't like the song. It's a got a Marvin Gaye, Maxwell type feel to it and grooves.
I tripped when I first heard "Gone" on the radio and found out that it was NSYNC.

Comment: timmdogg....I purchased Amy Winehouse's 1ST and 2ND CD recently.......outstanding....Amy's takes Hip-Hop, Aretha, The Ronette's, The Supreme's, Ella, Nina Simone and kill's it. I happen to be color blind when it comes to good music and I listen to music from the 50's to current track's. Wasn't born in the 50's but who cares...most people I know listen to Pretty Ricky, Akon, Mims, Lloyd, 50 Cent, or the latest flavor of the day. Do what you do...BTW big up's to Robin Thicke. Currently listening to Wayman Tisdale, Rage Against The Machine, Nancy Wilson, Ne-Yo, and cueing up Boz Scaggs's Greatest Hit's.

Comment: the posters that are saying if white people complained about a black person singing rock sound really stupid because if they knew their music history then they would know that black people created rock music....how can a black person be singing white people music if black people were the ones who created it?....find a better example because rock is not a good one.

Comment: I like his CD. He wrote a couple of songs on Usher's (Grammy Winning) Confession and many other celebrities who have received awards for their song, same as Ne-Yo. White or Black he has soul in his music and at home, so it appears.

Comment: If we go back 25 plus years before music videos came along more than likely this debate wouldn’t be going on. Remember listening to the radio (AM) nine times out ten a song would come on and nobody would care what the artist skin color if was a good song.

Comment: It's true that blacks created rock and roll... but let's face it whites have taken it over. When someone says rock and roll a white face comes to mind. I'm not surpriesd that he is married to a black woman... I saw his video and he had black women featured. I guess we should congratulate Robin on his love and appreciation for black women. I don't understand why Paula Patton (aside from the movie with Deja Vu) continues to take these limiting movie roles (like Meagan Goode and Vivica Fox). When Vivica did Independence Day with Will Smith she should have stuck to bigger features like that.. instead she became a C rated actress.
What's exciting for me about the current state of music is that the power is no longer in the hands of the record labels. Anyone with talent, and access to a computer (market and distribute it on myspace, CDbaby, 911, tonos, etc) or production studio can record a CD and hustle and sell it. This is forcing artists to become businesspeople as well as the creative talent. Now no one has an excuse as to why they can't pursue their dream of being an artist.

Comment: >fairy - I still believe Vivica is a good actress; however, I don't think she is offered the really good roles or there just aren't that many, so, she has reduced herself to taking "paycheck" movies, that are lower level films, but, she gets paid. I think Vivica Fox is a very good actress, and very believable in her roles. I kind of expect Meagan to be in these roles at her level, but, not Vivica.

Comment: To say that race is not a factor in music is laughable. It was and always will be. Sure the audience may not care about the race of the artist but it is no accident that certain artists are pushed partly because of it. It started since the days of Elvis. Ain't nothing change except the years. There have been folks that have been around longer than Thicke and they are just getting recognition. Bettye Lavette is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. She has been around for 4 decades and only last year, she was recognized by the R&B Foundation and nominated for a grammy(I may be wrong about this).

Comment: Do you have a problem when rappers feature white, Asian, Hispanic or "vanilla cupcake" women (Oprah's term)standing and posing as desirable women, while the darker-skinned Black women are doing all of the huffing and puffing and nasty dancing? I happen to like Robin Thicke's music but he studied the whole gamut of the music business for many years. Btw-one reason I like his music is because he writes and sings romantic, sexy songs. How often do you hear Black artists singing about love anymore. Most Black music is about SEXSEXSEX. Where is the love? There will ALWAYS be Black artists who sing about love (Will Downing, for one) but 90% of what you hear on the radio sounds like gross negativity written for and by the prison culture- and that's sad.

Comment: I like both Robin Thicke and Van Hunt; in fact, a concert with both of them plus Kem would be worth my chips. Back to Robin, I actually like the new single out featuring Faith and another that may follow. I like Van and Kem period. If Maxwell had new music out, this would be my own private mellow concert. Wishful thinking. I'm interested to see how Robin would do at scoring a movie. I mean, Brian did alright with Daddy's Little Girls, so it couldn't be much worse.

Comment: Thatlilboy, I agree with you. That's part of the reason God does not give some of our black people "Favor"! I Like the song. It tells about some one in love with their whole body and soul!Black people as a whole will never rise up and get blessed like others do because of the hating. I use to watch his father in the show "Growing Pains"
now his son is getting his props! I'M "Blessed and Highly Favored" HELLO!

I think thats the point others are making. There are plenty of black singers making romantic non-bump-n-grind songs (Raheem DeVaughn, Kem, Maxwell, Van Hunt, Rashaan Patterson, Darien Brockington, Anthony Hamilton, etc.) These cats just get ignored by mainstream radio because there is nothing NOVEL about blacks singing rnb. Thicke is talented and his cd is great, but there is an element of novelty that helps him get noticed and promoted over other artists.
