Comment: I generally have a lot of respect for Noel Jones, but have to say I'm not convinced he exercised good judgement in this instance. All the best to Keyshia though. This had to be embarrassing to say the least, but she'll bounce back from this.

Comment: She was caught off guard and nervous. I commend her for accepting the invitation to sing, I would have declined. She is a nice girl trying to do something for herself. I wish her continued sucess. NOte to Keyshia: get rid of some of those tatoos.

Comment: If you have seen her reality show on BET, it appears that she has no real background in the church due to her upbringing and deliquent and neglectful mother. She obviously didn't know what appropriate attire is for church and she shouldn't be judged for it. At least she came to church. That is a start. She basically hasn't had much positive direction in her life, cut her some slack. I hope she will be able to find a mentor or an entertainer grounded in life to help her.

Comment: I agree with karamelky. If an amount of decorum was used in what she wore to church that day, that "waredrobe malfunction" most likely would not have happened. I also believe a "dress code" of sorts should be implemented in church these days. It is not a pick up joint, it is a place of worship.

Comment: OK, where was the back-up choir in all of this? I've heard some off-key church soloists in my day, but if you got Sister Lucinda and 'nem to drown you out, they end up not sounding that bad.

Comment: I you are a well known singer and you're in church, always have a couple of songs (a fast one and a slow one; gauge the mood of the church to determine which one to use) ready to go at the drop of a hat. Then if you feel like accepting a request, tell them your throat has been acting up the last couple of days (to get a little sympathy), then turn it out.

Comment: The bottom line is Keyshia really can't blow outside of the recording studio (even though her cd was hot!!). Some event on BET or MTV she was trying to sing "Love" and couldn't hold a note. Pure singers like Aretha, M. Carey,Whitney, Denise Williams, etc. there wouldn't have been no excuses because they can naturally blow. Even Whitney, in a crack induced haze, would have stood up there and delivered. About her choice of wardrobe in church...she should be able to wear whatever makes her comfortable, and if anyone has a problem with it they should kiss her azz...hypocrites!!

Comment: I read this article and I felt for Ms. Cole. What caught my attention was the writer's remarks.... on one hand, he's saying any singer worth his or salt who goes to a BLACK CHURCH, esp. on EASTER SUNDAY had better be able to turn it out, and not just sing, but sing with a REAL ANOINTING...
Yet the writier also says to not let the imperfections of man stand between her and God. I mean, what does GOD have to do with her performance? Meaning that God's loving embrace was with her whether she sang or not. Don't put it on God or the so-called judgmental people that she didn't give her best performance. Maybe she just wasn't prepared or she's not the great a singer, I don't know. I've not heard any of her songs before.
And I know there are some judgemental people in churches across the globe, but from what was written, it looks like there were some people who were supporting and praying for her.

Comment: Paster's are notorious for calling people out...Keshia should have declined and left a nice contribution to the "Building Fund". I'm sure she was very nervous,unprepared, shocked, embarrassed at the way things went down. She didn't sign a contract with him to sing. Some people just wanna sit back and enjoy the service. Paster Jones should be ashamed of himself for capitalizing on the visiting celebs. Unfortunately Kesha may never go to chuch again because of crap like this...sad so sad!!!

Comment: A singer anointed by God is an anointed singer, whether they sing for the church OR the world. And exactly how rich and famous is Keyshia Cole? I didn't really know of her existence until this story. I think Bishop Noel Jones didn't call her up to embarrass her. He probably did it to acknowledge her and to allow her to share her gift to the people. I'm sure he didn't expect her to freeze up as she did. I've seen this happen at my church all the time where a SINGER or SPEAKER of some status who is visiting will be called to share, to greet the audience. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody's asking them to take a text. But like it has been said, any singer, esp. a singer who is Black and visits a church knows the deal: either be able to bring it or when you're called up, have some words and graciously sing a FAST CONGREGATIONAL SONG so that everybody can sing. Pick a hymn like "I'm so glad Jesus lifted me" or something like that.

Comment: Good Morning, Everyone I am a huge fan of Keyshia. She reminds me so much of my favorite singer of all time (Mary J Blige)whn Mary first came out...but I do feel she was embarassed due to being put on the spot...I saw Keyshia in person and SHE CAN BLOW now she isn't the best singer but she isn't a "alright" singer either....also I remember watching Mariah Carey on one of those awards shows and Mariah was singing her heart out but her voice ws cracking - the song she was singing was "Fly Like A Bird"

Comment: Kesyhia doesn't have the worst voice. Her biggest problem is that she has no training and seemingly know knowledge of how to control her voice. Even growing up in the "church" would've somewhat prepared her to use her voice. But she didn't. Not everyone does. In fact she sounds like how JHudson would if she didn't have the church upbringing and whatever training.

Comment: According to the Christian faith, the Messiah didn't come to heal the well but to heal the sick. He didn't just hang with the holy and the sanctified but the Prostitute's, Poor, Sinner's, and the Leper's. I was alway's taught to come as you are and He will do the rest. Wasn't a fan of Ms. Cole at first but after awhile her last CD grew on me and I admired Keyshia for acheiving success against all odd's.

Comment: It's sorrowful to read that she didn't stay at church after all that happened. Why didn't the congregation lead a hand of mercy and compassion to her?
I don't know who Keyshia Cole is, but one thing is for sure. I hope the people there took time to remember that before God, we are weak, and He can be glorified and not ourselves. Let's take a moment to pray for her. Her singing may have been out of tune for the church, but it may have pleased the Lord.
