Comment: That masacre didn't have to happen! Those closest to Seung knew something was wrong - a professor knew something was wrong and a classmate said on the news this morning that he thought this boy would have done something last year. We stopped caring for each other and certainly we long ago ceased to be our brother's keeper.

Comment: Stuff happens at any time and anywhere. There is no way to know that someone will snap like that and do the things that Seung did on Monday. To be honest we ceased to be one another keeper when we allowed prayer to be taken out of the school and we allowed the governement to tell us that if we disciplined our kids that they would be taken by Child Protection Services. Now look at what we have, lots of people pointing fingers and not wanting to take responsibility for the things that they do and or say.

Comment: McNasty I agree totally. The signs were written on the wall. The teachers knew and the students knew. The professor was sooo concerned that security was involved and Seung was removed from class and subjected to counseling. In the final analysis nothing was done. "They" swept his cry for help under the rug and paid no more attention with no further follow-up. Yes Smokie that could have been prevented. "They chose" not to look into his bizarre behavior any further. The professor who reported him tried to "prevent" such a tradegy from happening and they ignored the professors cries as well and they ignored the students cries provided that the students reported his behavior. Our brothers keeper is such a beautiful phrase because it illustrates that we will put our needs on the back burner for those who are not as strong as we are mentally, socially, physically, financially, etc. We do not have many "brothers keepers" in this day but I do my best to be one of those people. It is clear to me that his bizarre behavior is due to a mental illness that more than likely excalated due to maybe voices, hallicinations and especially paranoid tendencies. I can relate to this tragedy because I have a family member that has been diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and I do my utmost to "prevent harm to himself or others around him". It is a tough job battling with a mentall ill person on a daily basis esp. when they are in denial. My hearts aches for this atrocity an atrocity of innocent, talented lives being lost due to someone who needed help himself. The cries were in Seung writings, in his plays, in his behavior and in his none verbal expressions when spoken to..and no one paid attention because they did not want to be their "brothers keeper"...

Comment: nobody is at fault for this shooting but that WACKO that walked around and killed innocent people for no reason....people are so quick to blame everybody for something one crackpot chose to do.....the only thing that upsets me more than him killing all those people is the fact that he killed himself also, that looney toon took the easy way out.

Comment: "you cause me to do this"..was Cho words in writing. In his mental state he felt that was the only thing he could do. I take his quote as meaning: "I have shown you all these signs of my mental state in class to students, professors and I stalked two women and no one is paying me any attention, no one realizes that I need help desparately. About 2 hours ago CNN post that Cho was admitted in a mental facility in 2005. I say it again the signs were written on the wall and if Cho was willing to go to the hospital 2 years ago when folk paid attention...if someone would have taken action like they did 2 years ago this would have been prevented. I for one am not placing blame or pointing fingers but if were are the nuturing human beings that we say we are and the god-fearing men and women we claim to be..this could and should have been prevented. Sometimes you have to think like a mentally ill person (without agitating them) and wonder what goes on in their head ..believe me that is an extremely difficult task to do.... but you if you "love thy neighbor it would not be impossible to do.... The name calling exacerbates anger in a mentally ill person, past trauma builds up and their thinking is distorted. I have pain for both sides of the coin and it is high time for society and the powers to be to take a stand and realize that mental illness is real and it causes divestating disasters not only for the ill person but innocent peoples' as well...

Comment: It's sick and so many families have been torn apart by this lone person. I remember back when I was in college and the worst thing that could happen is that you got robbed or somebody jumped you but even something like that was a rare occurance.

Comment: No one can be helped until they are willing to help themselves. The professor offered to attend counseling with him and didn't accept...That was an attempt to reach out to him. I don't know the rules and regulations of suspending or expelling college students, but I don't know if mental instability counts. I remember when I was in school a football athlete lost it after his girlfriend broke up with him after he hit her. He sank into a deep depression, his teammates told the coach, who insisted he go home for a while to get himself together. He refused. Ultimately, he called his ex and threatened to kill himself if she wouldn't give him another chance. She heard him shoot himself over the phone. Not everyone knows how to handle someone who's mentally unstable, unfortunately.
