Comment: After listening to Des'ree and Beyonce's version....Des'ree should get all of her money plus all court fee's. Beyonce can afford it, now that her Contract with Sony is almost up, Sony will unlock the vault to keep Beyonce in their stable. BMG has all the artist's (The American Idol stable, Xtina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, etc.) and Sony has fallen hard since the day's of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Bruce Springsteen "Born In The U.S.A. For those who don't know BMG/RCA and Sony/CBS merged as one not too long ago. Plus Jay-Z is looking to bring B to Def-Jam which will increse her bargining power. That still was shady and I'm not feeling that "Kitty Kat" video....lol...I think that I will skip the Beyonce "Live" CD that is coming out in the fall but the Shakira video is nice.

Comment: no wonder BMG wants out of the merger...Beyonce, poster girl for womanhood and not having an ego, and wanting to promote unity among women did the oldest trick in the book. This is a flimsy attempt to get a songwriting or arrangement credit by changing lyrics here & there and adding chords. Desiree added this song to the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack and Beyonce's video looks like outtakes from the Sports Illustrated photo shoot. (From the looks of this video I can believe she wanted her back-up dancers to pay their won fares to the gig). Now if someone did to Beyonce what she did to Desiree -- Mamma & Papa Knowles would be all over them. Was she that desperate to get that song on the re-release? The changes she made to the lyrics strongly suggest that she is targeting this song as the wedding song for this year. Sheet music sales, wedding CD compilations, shame shame shame!!! I bet Jay told her to do it and just pay Desiree after the fact. If I were Desiree I would make her cease & desist all sales and strip the song and video off any future relases. In publishing, it's very specific -- you either have permission or you don't.

Comment: I'm not sure how Bey thought this was gonna fly but her version might as well be Des'ree's version. Only 150K? Why so little? CO-sign Teigh, make her cease and desist, but also sue her for anything that she's made off the song/video so far, the potential revenue + the 150K & court/attorney fees. IMHO

True talent doesn't always win out but hopefully in this case it will and Des'ree will get what she deserves.

I think Des'ree deserves more than what she is asking for. Bey's version is aight but it cant touch the original. Des'ree straight killed that ish her voice is amazing!

Comment: I think Beyonce is getting desperate. Po thang! She need to fire Pookie. Between these two versions. I don't know who's better. This is my third day feeling sleepy. Des'ree's version almost put me to sleep. She sounds like an opera singer. She also sounds soothing which didn't help me. Beyonce's version was ok. The melody was similar including the way she held her notes. The part where she's singing about her man makes love to her, I thought gross. TMI. But like another poster said it's all for a wedding song. Or just falling in love. I think she should sue for more money. I think her re-release did better than the original release date. By her suing (controversy), the song is probably gonna get very popular.

Comment: Just shows no matter how good you are there really is no originality in the music coming out now. So much so that one of america's favorites had to steal. I wonder if Desree could get bouncy for punitive damages too. I also agree that 150k is not enough for straight up jacking her music.

WHAT HAPPENS IS DADDY KNOWELS PAYS THE SONG WRITER UP FRONT FOR THE SONG AND PUTS BEYONCE NAME ON IT FOR WRITING CREDITS. HE DID IT FOR IRREPLACEABLE...THAT SONG WAS WRITTEN BY NEYO.... BUT DADDY KNOWLES PAID NEYO FOR THE SONG AND HE PAID HIM TO TAKE HIS NAME OFF OF THE SONG AS THE SONG WRITER WHICH ALOUD HIM TO PUT BEY AS THE SONG WRITER... WHICH MEANS SHE GETS COPYWRITING CREDIT FOR THE SONG NOT NEYO... I FOUND THIS OUT RECENTLY WHEN I SAW NEYO IN CONCERT LAST DECEMBER AND HE ANNOUNCED AT THE CONCERT THAT HE WROTE IRREPLACEABLE FOR BEY AND THAT OTHER BIG HIT LAST YEAR FOR RIANNA THATS ON JAY-Z DEF JAM LABEL

Came off as if they were more superior to the V.I. peep's. I personaly found it sexy how the V.I. woman had that cool accent. Reality show's are known for editing to cause drama and create a "story" but this came off as ghettoish. Made me glad to be from Northern Cali. Listening to "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" this time......didn't I by The Delfonic's. Why do Cali and New York folk's alway's think that their part of town is better than everyone else's? I have been guilty of this too and will try 2 check myself and enjoy where ever I lay my head, in the future.

Comment: My former roomie knew that I was a big Jay Z head (also liked the beat's that Swizz Beat's, Kanye, Pharrell, Timbaland, and Just Blaze fed J) and played a track that proved J loved to bite Biggie's verse's and pretend that it came off the dome. Now he may be teaching B to rip off something that she is not willing to pay for. Although "Independent Woman" was a good message...it actually sucked. The 2nt Destiny's Child CD was cool because Rodney Jerkin's and the lady from Xscape helped shape the sound. Once B found out how much money was involved she beame like the late 90's Michael Jackson and made sure his name was on every track ("Earth Song", remember that classic ditty...lol). In other word's became greedy instead of letting everyone share in the wealth and looking for the best track's. I hope that peep's weren't suckered into buying the deluxe package of B'Day. ***sarcasm on If you were Plan C from Poppa Knowles is to get you to buy the much needed "Live" version of B'Day and "Independent Woman"***sarcasm off

I was never a fan. She's a good song stylist not a singer. I hate to hear her yoddel through a song.
Those wet dripping - I need to be sexy -- videos are getting tired.
Where is her crew to tell her to ease up? This business of music will turn on you in the quickness. Not to mention fans.
Her appeal was her orginality - no one was doing what she did. She took the girl group to a different level. Seems like she got to the level and stepped off the platform.
Get a grip girl. Time to move on.

Comment: First of all, I think it was a publicity stunt on Bey. They went through with it to get more word out on the album which re-debut at #1 on the R&B charts. Controversy stirs monetray, funds. In the music business you know you have to get rights to do others work. The 150K is low most likely cause Desree hopes the punative damages will equal out the balance. All you have to do is watch Peoples Court. The video sucks by the way.

Comment: thatlilboy>as I'm sure you know the term is called ghost writing, Nas does a lot of ghost writing (Pop rap) doesn't want his hame on it -- would diminish his street cred) and Puffy's last album was mostly ghost written by Pharoah Moanch (didn't get that last name right). Nee-yo was probably so desperate to get into the game that he took the short money -- if Beyonce took full writing credit after paying him then she got the long money. Telling folks after the fact doesn't mean much other than you got ripped off by the very people who are so called promoting you. I liked Kanye the producer, but notice after he signed with Def Jam and did all that production work for Jay -- soon after he neogitated a deal for himself at Sony. Jay didn't want to sign Kanye, and in fact he didn't. Damon Dash signed Kanye, and I am no fan of Damon but Damon was the "business" head in that partnership.

Comment: This comes as no surprise. Most of the performers these days steal and change things here and there. Has anyone really given us anything new lately. Just about every song has a sample or a melody similar to a back in the day jam. In this case she just took the song. I think desiree should get more money, but by suing for less I take her as a person who is upset by the artistic part, not someone trying to get paid. I think that is refreshing. I hope the judge sticks it to Bey Bey and gives desiree a lot more than she is asking for.

Comment: It's not a blantant theft, in most cases you do not need permission to "cover" someone's song. Acceptable changes would be to substitute "he" for "her" or "I" for "we". Now when you start changing lyrics that's a completely different game. (c) laws in the UK are very different from the US but when you sign a publishing deal, the songwriter has the option to indicate if/when you need to seek permission to expolit their song. This is why I personally don't bootleg -- it's their lifework especially a songwriter. Imagine if you worked all week and then didn't get paid beacuse Pookie bootlegged your check.

Comment: Amy Winehouse is ALL that, and I don't know about shaking her demons...old girl is 22 years old. She drinks, who doesn't drink at that age. She made her first record Frank, which was really jazzy (fyi, she sounds like Etta James to me -- not Billie Holliday as many have said) and her man dumped her between releasing "Frank" and her new release. I've seen her perform three times in NYC and girlfriend drinks Jack Daniels & lemonade throughout her set. Her band is easily 8+ members, live instruments and I have to say Salaam Remi (Producer) & Mark Ronson made some serious noise with this one. Oh yeah, she's British and white but SO WHAT! She has spunk and can sing Beyonce under the floor. She has a myspace page myspace.com/AmyWinehouse and a website www.amywinehouse.com. She sells out in 5 minutes but it's a must see show if she comes to your town.

Comment: OK....This is what I honestly think. Beyonce has been in this business TOOOO LOOONNNGGG!Trust and believe artist do not deal with each other ONE on ONE. Their attorneys, met, attemtped to negociate and guess what Beyonce's attorneys pretty much told her to move forward and mis-guided their client. The industry does not work like that as far as the artist hitting u up on your cell to discuss major stuff like that. As far as the law suit...If she even negocitaed anything to do with Bee regarding that song or video....TRUST ME Sony's attorneys will find a loop hole. As far as Irreplacable.....Neyo is Jay-z's artist and trust me he got paid for co-writting the song...and NEYO has stated in the press and on every TV show he goes to that Beyonce CO-WROTE THE SONG....I mean do you people listen or you just look for crap to shi* start! Neyo pretty much writes for every one. In the industry even if you write one little OOHH- AAAH-Lala...you can get credit as a c-writter and NEYO AND BEE both know that. Beyonce does write the majority or co-write the majority of her songs...No one else has battled her over that ever in the 10 years she has been out. So for folks to take away her 10 year success is so stupid. I am sure if it was that serious Deseree' would ask for 20 million not 150k keep that shi* real!!!! Their must be another side to this story...But again the press knows what sells and it ain't that Beyonce is a successfull black female artist doin the dam* thing...why? Cause no one would be on this site! Y'all have too much self hatred...I need more evidence before i judge. The attack on Bee is so silly..Mary, Ciara EVERONE does a REMAKE REMIX ETC....but when it is Beyonce the rules change STOP HATIN! The girls version was HOTTT....Deseree should be happy that some on e is even re-listening to her OPERA VERSION! Bee did it justice.....KEEP IT REAL!

Comment: Stophatin129:
Music Publishing 101... Writing credits are negotiated and divvied up according to contribution. Usually, the "ooh ahh" writers ONLY get credit when they're a star and want/need lazy people to believe they can really write. It doesn't take six people to write a damn song. By far, the majority of TRUE collaborations have one musician and one writer/singer. Of course, there are true songwriting pairs (Lennon/McCartney, Ashford/Simpson), but given Ne-Yo's other writing credits, does anybody really think he needed Bey to help him on that song. It doesn't sound like anything else on the album and was the ONLY absolute smash. The Academy Awards knew better than to go for the okeydoke (same as they did with Babyface on Prince of Egypt BTW).
