Comment: I wouldn't say that he is capitalizing...I think "we" (the Black community) fell short when "we didn't demand that CBS add an African American slot to their line-up. It doesn't have to be Jason Whitlock, Ed Gordon, Tavis Smiley and countless others could fit in very well on CBS radio.

On one hand, we complain that there is not a DIVERSITY of Black voices out there, but on the other hand, we don't want to support a brother who might have different (conservative) views. There is MUCH diversity in Black America, but thanks in part to WHO CONTROLS THE MEDIA, only the more DAMAGING IMAGES are shown. So affirmative action/equal access offers Mr. Whitlock the opportunity to APPLY. Let's hope the right (Black) person gets the job.... Yeah, how about a BLACK WOMAN in the position? Hmmmm....

Comment: I don't take too much stock in this story. CBS also approached Tom Joyner & Crew to fill this time slot. CBS ain't stupid, they're going to pick someone with experience, dedicated listeners/following, and a strong advertising network/connections.

The nationality of the host is irrelevant -- what matters is if that person can maintain a large audience and bring in national advertising dollars. The name of the corporate game is M-O-N-E-Y, not "let's hire a Black person". As for Tom Joyner... his show is too music intensive, is co-owned by Radio One (a direct competitor), and is already on an Urban Adult station in NYC.

Comment: No- many a racist white person/company understands one thing- hire a self-hating Black person to espouse our racist rantings. Larry Elder is one of those I can think of- he was complaining mightily about racism here in Los Angeles when he was booted off his radio show. And the man screamed racism loudly morning, noon and night. But as soon as he got his show back- he went back to dissing blacks on every single subject. Sure, it is okay to have conservative leanings, but when you espouse the views of racists- you spread hatred even better than racist whites. It gives them comfort and lessens any guilt they may feel. And let's look at the bottom line- there are some people (including Blacks) who will sell out their people for a dollar. Happens every day.
