Comment: This shoulda been done YEARS ago! The NAACP heard the cries of a respect-demanding C. Delores Tucker but rather than launch an all-out war, they stayed in the shadows. No wonder many Black folks including myself have lost faith in NAACP. I've been a PAID member for many years, but I question their guts when real issues are on the table. It's nice to go to yearly conventions, stay at plush hotels, impress "peoples" with impeccable diction and rub elbow with movie stars, but if at the end of the day, ain't nuthin' but a whole lotta of profiling & gesticulating, back-slapping done taken place then "we just spinning our wheels".

Comment: I can't think of a better mission for the NAACP! It will also help to give them more insight into the ones they discount so easily. Understanding abounds!

Comment: the NAACP should have done somthing when they were under Hooks...they were too busy trying to be part of the glamour and glitter...they should have attached this in early 80s.....they continue to look for a purpose for being!

Comment: The NAACP was reactive instead of being proactive on this topic, which as most have said, should have been addressed years ago. The music is so far down in the gutter that I believe it will take decades for our community to recover. Which is sad.

Comment: This is cool and BTW how about stop derogatory language on this board when someone doesn't agree with you. I've seem people who claim to be oh so pro-black and proud the minute there's a disagreement to derogatory terms come flying out. Can we agree to respect each other since we are all about getting respect?

Comment: @YLawdyY & Selah: Naptown is the term Black folks coined back in the 1920's to represent the vibrant culture & history of BLACK Indianapolis. Culturally/historically, it represents Madame CJ Walker, the Inkspots, Wes Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard, Larry Ridley, Oscar Robertson and Baby Face. I have an ENTIRE chapter on this in my soon-to-be completed book.."Entertainment History of Indiana Avenue 1910-1970. 20 years ago, white folks expropriated by imminent domain all our property in the Black community around the downtown area for the Indian Univ. Medical Center. White folks obliterated OUR history and RE-NAMED OUR INDIANA Avenue and called it INDY. Whenever you hear Indy thatz white folks talkin'. Naptown is Black folks talkin'. If you want to insult a Black here ask them if they've from INDY. LOL!! To add insult to injury, I got a liitle cousin who's one of the best high school players in the coutry who will attend IU, the thieves of our history. Yes, God has got a sense of humor. LOL!!

Comment: @Selah: One last thang. Circle City is a term used by everybody regardless of race or social station. The center of INdianapolis has monument circle which is a monument to Indiana soldiers and sailors. Black folks have the Circle City Classic each October wherein 2 top HBCUs play a football game here. Just wanted to clarify that point.

Comment: The NAACP is a joke on the local, national, and international level!! They've lost their luster years ago. But what do you expect a white run organization to be with a Black face on it. Sadly, without asending,it will always be that "negro" organization that "used" to fight for civil rights "back in the day", instead of being a flagship for social change and justice here and now in the 21st century.

Comment: I'm glad they're finally doing something about the African American image. Have they been sleep for the last 15 yrs? The NAACP should also consider a name change to get rid of the word "colored". Times have changed and hopefully the NAACP is changin with it.

Comment: Fanteeking, i'm with you! I just finished doing letters to the Untited Negro College Fund CEO(Dr.Michael Lomax) and The NAACP about what's going on in one of our black colleges(Voorhees College,S.C)involving a no good president and three older females in a female dorm called(Battle Hall). This is suppose to be a christian college, and our black students are listening to vulger hip hop and the females are goign out dressing like prostitutes!I was an Armed Security Officer for 19 overnights straight! Know one is listening to me and by me coming from Brooklyn,N.Y., they don't want me working there. BUT I got enough information to go to all the news papers and ask Rev.Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, NAACP and United Ngro College Fund to speak out publicly. I'm not afraid of a damn soul! So thanks for giving me the chance to join you in your opinon spot light on EURWEB.COM!
