Comment: Good,
Hopefully these so-called entertainers will get on stage and sing without all the X-rated activity with underage girls.
We need talented entertainers, there will never be another Luther but, there are still singers out there like Jahiem that can still sing and put on a good show without all that unnecessary crap they do on stage.

Comment: I never "got" Akon, but I really don't listen to the radio. I know Gwen Stefani is peeved although I'm sure the advanced ticket sales will cover the venue payments, she'll just make less. I seriously doubt venues will offer a refund because Akon wasn't considered a headliner. I noticed Motown initially put Akon on the re-mix with India.aire -- I never got that either...evidently neither did India because when her CD went into a second pressing, she stripped the song.

He got so much adrenaline rushing through his system with THAT thought in his head that he FORGOT ALL ABOUT his heritage. Sad thing is that another sponsor may pick him up and run with the whole thing and turn him into the biggest PR following (you know...a la Jerry Springer). He'll get more attention for that and turn into a one-hit wonder, go back to Senegal and be a has been. The OTHER scenario is that he could become very ANGRY and disgruntled about the whole thing, hang around the U.S., lose his DAYUM mind, and start committing a bunch of damn crimes (a la DMX). What a waste!!

Comment: Testic Al> I don't know about Akon "got his money"...Akon has a record deal, which is an advance. I can't speak for his sales, because while I know who he is, I don't follow him but I will say this. He lost BIG MONEY that was all his own. He did not have to share that with the record company. I'm sure he's huge in Africa but I don't know about re-couping his deal (meaning he made enough money to pay back the record companyso that all future sales are his. I think he took a loss on this one. Touring is LONG money for artists, and touring with Gwen Stefani was HUGE!!!

Comment: Based on the "greater" good, I think Akon needed to get dropped...not to punish the brother but to enlighten him (wake him up) on his actions before it costs him much more than a gig. Akon has a one-of-a-kind voice which makes him a one-of-a-kind talent but what he brings to the table is average-everyday-bullsh*t. And having listened to him speak on the issues of the day, he knows better. Friday I got a chance to catch Rap City (at one point, this and Yo!MTVRaps, was my #1 show...back when Chris Da Mayor was the host...LOL) and Lovebug Starski was the guest deejay and he spoke on how when they were coming up in the business, they were not even allowed to cuss on a record at all. I remember that, and remember when it gradually started to change. He also said the industry doesn't even teach the "artist" the trade of performing, i.e., stage presence, performance, etc. anymore. It's kinda like some body taking your own gun and holding you hostage with it-- that's what the indsutry has done to Hip-Hop and that's a damn shame. It felt good to hear from one of the cornerstones of Hip-Hop (he and Cowboy came up with the term, btw) show the new school love but also let them know some history and where we've gotten off the path. Today it's Akon, I wonder who's next? ImusGate is a muthaf*cka...hopefully for the best.

They help pay for touring cost. He didn't get weekly paycheck. OLDSOUL.... as far Akon getting dropped would not be a big deal. He has his own record label which is only distributed through a major record label. He could find another distributor. Plus, with internet technology and his fan base already he'll do just fine. Only person should be %*$!ed is Gwen. Also LADYBYRD... Janet & Madonna did just as kinky nasty stuff bumping and grinding too. Watch Janet concerts in hawaii on HBO years ago. Verizon obviously doesn't want to be even remotely linked with controversy so Akon got chopped-albeit indirectly. Agree w/you HarrisThomas. |

Comment: First, Verizon being a socially conscious and responsible company as nothing to do with their actions. Akon could just as easily made a controversial political remark and Verizon's actions would be the same. Companies like Verizon will detach themselves from any type of controversy that may impact their sales. As for Akon, there has always been grown folk entertainment and popular entertainment. The problem with many many of todays artist is that they don't recognize the line between adult and popular. Back in the day what happened in the juke joint was very different from what went on on the concert stage. As for the morality issue, 1. That's why there are establishments for grown people where children are not allowed. 2, since we live in a "democracy" and not a "theocracy" adults who want certain types of entertainment have to right to gather and enjoy and those who don't like, don't have to enter.

I don't really care for his music(plus his voice is annoying) but he made a comment in Vibe magazine(RKelly cover) where he said "people don't care for lyrics, all you got to do is have a hot beat and a chorus that is catchy. That's why I makes simple songs".

Women can't even get any attention unless they are dress in the least amount of clothes, hopefully none! If you're puzzy so powerful, why can't you control it when having so many damn kids with a man who keeps doing you wrong? If you're puzzy so powerful, why do men in their 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and on... go find a 20 year old to sex than someone their own age? I can witness to that cause when my grandfater was in his late 60's he was dating a white woman in her early 40's! Now tell me he was swinging! The white woman went crazy when he called it off. "She said, no daddy, you can't cut me off from that dyck." If the dyck isn't that powerful why did Lorena Bobbitt cut off John's dyck??? She didn't want no one else to get that power. NO ONE!

Comment: Akon's act was the wrong place wrong time period. If this had happened 2 months ago it would be an issue, and there have been many people who have lost sponsors (MADONNA for one) and they didn't channge their act or lose money. Akon has been out for a while actually he is just getting more air play as of late. The issue os simulated sex has been around at least since the 80s and before, what about all that grinding in the air (heck even the Ojays and Marvin Gaye did it) and grabbing women and dancin suggestively with them, now they have taken to a new level but that's what happens when the envelope keeps getting pushed. And we've had sexually suggestive lyric way before rap, Tube Steak Boogie (ZZ Top), Slow Ride (FogHat), Sexy Mama (yeah it was pretty but it was about SEX) and the list goes on and on, so we have all been complacent BTW many R & B lyrics have always been sexual just it was put prettier. Rap however did put out the B and H syndrome and the ode to stripper records, and since it is so old in addition to the disrespect, they do need to move on, and prove that they are talented poets (and we know there will be some that will truly fall by the wayside or go back underground where the nasty shyt belongs.)
