Comment: Ms Fantasia is getting rave reviews over at Purple. For a production that NY critics panned when it opened...Tasia (like LaChanze, the original Celie) is getting rave reviews for her acting abilities. If the momentum continues, I'm sure the run will be extended.

Comment: I just saw the play starring Tasia for the second time over the Memorial Weekend and all I can say is "Good God!" She's getting better and better with every performance. Who freaking knew? If any of you are up this way during the summer get a ticket and be amazed! Tasia is da damn truth!

Comment: I was critical of Fantasia when I first heard that she had been signed to portray Celie. I stand corrected.
When I saw the Color Purple, it never occurred to me that anyone could do as good a job as LaChanze. Love her! But I see that there's room for everyone.
It is a wonderful story and I'm glad for Fantasia's success.
Let's keep this momentum going by supporting August Wilson's Radio Golf.

As of right now Fantasia will be in the Color Purple until October but word is the producers have asked her to extend her stay. There is no word as of yet if she has agreed to stay or not.
I find it funny that people like gingerg and whoever else had sooooo much to say about what the girl couldn't, shouldn't and wouldn't do and now its time to eat those words. Gingerg I am proud you were a big enough person to do that. Some of the harshest critis in the world have said Fantasia is one of the best things to happen to Broadway in years. Clive Barnes, a theater critic who rips people apart for fun, said he was in tears.
Fantasia has already won her first award for the part. The World Theatre Award, given to best debut performers.
Its time we start supporting our young black sisters first and criticizing later.

Comment: The next time I see The Color Purple, it will likely be in Chicago. I want to see that interpretation and I just love Feliica Fields as Sophia. I have to fall out every time she says "hell no!"

Comment: Hmmmm... Thisisme, I was told by one of the staff members at the theatre that Tasia is signed up until September (not October). I hope your right though, but I would tell anyone who wants to see her to plan in advance and buy your tickets ASAP because the shows are selling out!

Comment: Per, the NY critics, until you experience Fantasia as Celie, you don't experience the full Color Purple. It is a great musical with or without Fantasia however, Fantasia takes Celie and makes her the central of the musical and that is per almost EVERY single critic in NY and that's why she won the Theatre World Award, and award that is almost never awarded to replacement cast members. I remember when I was here a few short months ago, people were bashing Fantasia's acting, however, my how times have changed, now she's an award winning, Critically Acclaimed Broadway Actress and Singing at the Tony Awards. Just goes to show you can't judge people without giving them a shot.
