Comment: I have to admit, I'm a bit perplexed!!! LOL! Where exactly does race fit into this equation?! This is all about fame and money. I've seen plenty of Black athletes, actors, and recording artists get off because they're rich & famous (i.e., Xhibit, Snoop, Foxy Brown, R. Kelly, Kobe Bryant, Vivica A. Fox, etc). C'mon now, Al Sharpton wants to call this thing racial, but plenty of rich Black folks have "gotten off" too.

Comment: This will blow up in her parents' faces. And she WILL go back to jail, or to a psychiatric hospital. California will see to that. Her family just managed to alienate the entire older upper middle class white demographic who normally frequent the Hilton chain - with an obvious disregard for the law and for a judge's RULING. There is already talk on the major message boards of folks tunring in their Hilton Hhonors memberships in protests.

Enough with using politics for our own selfish means.

Comment: I'm behind Sharpton on this for the simple fact that someone with a voice needed to speak out on it. Brandon> I, too, wondered where race came into play but almost immediately after wondering it became clear. I believe it's far-fetched to ever have a person of color, particularly Black, be released from jail for health reasons. Show me one case where that's happened. Hell, sick prisoners have access to medical treatment in prison...this is nothing new - we all know that. That's where the race mixed with entitlement based on economics comes in. Yes, Black folks with money have a much better chance of avoiding jail but once in, best believe we're going to serve that time...at the very least, we will serve half of it (that cost even more money), never 13% of it. 13% of a sentence? Getthufukcouttahere! A justice system doesn't exist if the justice must be bought. Just curious brother, are you a Black man?

Comment: Hang on soulmusic101 the sharpton bashig is coming in one moment but first...WOW being blonde blue eyed and rich in Ameirca is the ultimate get out of jail free card. I watched the CBS news last night and they interviewd a young black woman who apparently had been in county jail or had a relative in there before and she said that If that had been her in jail and SHE got sick she would have gone the county hospital and as soon as the were done checking her out she would have gone right back to JAIL! Don't tell me thier isn't racism in America, this
sh!t is a prime example of it, white and rich means no jail or country club jail, BROKE and white means some jail, BROKE AND BLACK means alot of jail time, BROKE and brown means alot of jail time an possible deportation. Here in the Un-United States of America there are alot disparigies in race, ecnomics and justice that are so deeply intrenched in the system beacause there is an Oligarchy that has created a beauracracy that perpetuates it. We call this beauracracy RACISM. Racism is Class discrimination based on skin color, Paris's class is made up that Oligarchy, she from that first world mentallity which is why she feels so distant from it and she feels she doesn't she doesn't need to be punished by in OUR world. The world of broke people the real world you and
I live in. I'm not mad at Paris, like I said she lives in a different world than the one you and I live, power and privilege. Lets just hope the LA county judge doesn't live in Paris's world nor care too and render judgment base the rules of the broke world and not the first world. As for Sharpton man stay your azz at home, I know that this is prime media moment for you and your on a role after the whole Imus thing but try to resist the tempation to insert in yourself in this debocle. Now if you(Sharpton), want to help some of those NON-famous economically disadvantaged black people in that area with thier legal woes that's fine but I'm about this close to joining the Jason Whitlock impeach Al and Jesse campaign and both of your azzes are PUSHING it!

If nobody says nothing about this then we, the people, set a silent precedent for this sh*t to happen again...and again. I just don't know how what happens with this heffa factors in my life as a black woman in America. I believe Rev. Al to have more pressing issues affecting the community than Paris Hilton -- for example, is The Godfather of Soul's finances straight? And Brandon, I agree with you . . . this is class and money and not race. Though it's rare, black folk get their share of skirting the law, too and getting preferential treatment, too at times. Money talks and bulls.h.i.t. walks -- liked she walked out of that jail. Doesn't matter that she has to go back, the fact that she was let out in the first place reeks of arrogance to me. Must be nice to be a member of the elite and exempt from the law or rules. Here's a snippet: "When we recognize someone as a leader, we often place our faith in that person to a degree that exceeds what is humanly possible. In other words, we expect them to be beyond fault and to not make mistakes. This, of course, is neither realistic nor fair. Just like us, these people are living human lives, and part of the deal is learning through experience and working out our individual karmas. There will always be missteps and things they would do differently given a second chance. If we are to be fair, we must grant our leaders the same forgiveness, compassion, and understanding that we grant our closest friends as they navigate the complex challenges of this human life."

Comment: I think its so terrible. I worked in the court system before. A DUI can ruin white and blacks lives. (Not that I agree with DUI, the damage is catastrophic) but it is pretty standard nationwide that with the first DUI can land you jailtime and hefty fine. On the second DUI, you will do jail time at least 2months. I have seen people with no priors get a 2nd DUI and cry and nearly pass out because they have to do so much time. It would be teachers, doctors, everyone. I was really really shocked with them letting Paris go. My thing is if you are going to let her go,...why even arrest her, why give her a ticket. Just post her picture to all the cops and say let her go no matter what she does. They should watch Baca's personal bank account. I bet he'll retire soon. He probably told her, Look Paris I will get fired. She probably said, "Like oh my god, so what, you make at most 70,000 maybe? I will pay you 3 million or more, if you let me out. Baca said, SHoot you aint said nothing but a thing! Let her out!!!

Comment: From what I heard, the food isn't good at the jail. I have a friend who's in the area Paris will be sent to and she's told me that the food is full of starch hence why alot of the inmates are chubby. But she says you can get a Vegetarian meal which she does but even that isn't very tasty.

Comment: Gimme a break!!! Y'all act like you've got something personal against the girl. I agree, she deserves to be in jail for violating her probation, but it wasn't her fault she was sent home - it was the Sheriff's decision. As for her being racist... I don't know what world you're living in, but White kids use the word "n-i-g-g-a" everyday, because Black America has made it mainstream. Black Women, Black men, Black rappers, Black athletes, Black old people, Black young people -- all are guilty of "making light" of the word N-i-g-g-a. Don't get mad at White America when they do what we do to ourselves. Sure Paris Hilton is guilty of being a brat, but who's to blame? We are! CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC have all been focused on her since 9 o'clock this morning.

Comment: FYI, Brandon. I curse, but I do not use racial slurs against anyone. Like someone mentioned earlier, this issue is much bigger than Paris. In the real scheme of things, she is irrelevant.
And apparently it is not just the sheriff's decision. The judge was very clear about his expectations.
I'm sure the jail infirmary staff has dealt with crazies and folks detoxing before so Paris should be just fine.

Comment: Brandon I agree and you sometimes seem rationale..lol. But, for the life of me, is it some sort of "code of silence" that makes people not realizing that one word..used in a different context..can actually mean something different. There was a recent case where the NY courts said that the FCC (and I'm completely paraphrasing) were wrong to censor fyck, shyt and similar words because they can be used in different contexts. They used Dyck Cheney's (go fk urself" as an example. He made that statement to another colleague on the floor of the senate. But, they (NY courts) said that in saying "go fk urself" he was not telling the dude to literally fk himself. It was a different context. That said, a yt person saying "what up my n1gga" and "you black nygga" can mean two different things. It's the obvious intent which makes it so. So please don't make this a "well we do it ourselves" thing. We kill each other too. But, if a yt person (while stabbing a black one to death) were using racist language such as "n1gger" he would accused of a hate crime. All that said, this isn't a Paris issue as it is a court issue. But if Al wants to shout from the rooftops that this is fkd up..then so be it. When the rest of us start to do 1/10th of what AL does..then we should talk.

Comment: Gingerg> I understand what you're saying, I try not to curse at all, and I certainly never use the word "n-i-g-g-a". But this is about Paris Hilton. You can't hold her accountable for every other miscarriage of justice. She violated her probatiom - that's it.

Comment: Musbdherbs> You've gotta be kidding me! As an educated person, you can't be that self-absorbed to think it's okay for you to call yourself and your Black co-workers "n-i-g-g-a", but then say it's wrong for your White co-workers to say the same thing. They have a phrase for that -- it's called DOUBLE STANDARDS! LOL!!! It's hypocritical to hold anyone to a different standard than we hold ourselves. Our concerns will never be taken seriously if we do.

Comment: Sorry "oldsoul"> I missed your question before. My mom is half Black/half Caribbean. My dad was half Black/half American Indian. My mom's father was a slave as a child, who later gained freedom and married a woman from Trinidad. My dad's father was an Illiniwek Indian who married a Black woman. Both sets of my grandparents suffered more persecution, more racial hatred, and more discrimination than most folks under 80-years old can even imagine. I was taught - the only thing more important than knowledge is integrity. I'm a Black man - born, raised and educated in Chicago. I hope that answers your question :-)

Comment: Wow she looks a mess. I saw the pictures of her weeping in the police car. I was thinking, is she really crying or is this another fake scene and they'll let her go. But no, she looks for real bad. I wondered what happened in that jail for 3 days? She is by herself. Now they are talking about putting her in a psych ward. I dont know. I think I would keep the hotel jail suite.

Comment: Brandon: I said when they use it in a NEGATIVE manner! I don't like when THEY use it, period. I'm not too fond of that word, no matter who uses it. But, it's much worst, IMHO, when they use it. So, yeah, I took that mess personally when she used that word in that context, being a Black person. I would personally like to bust her in the head. But, she's in jail now. Maybe someone else'll get the chance to do it for me, lol. Ya don't have to agree with me. It's cool. I don't like her. If you do, fine. She can kiss my Black a$$. Period. Hold up, on 2nd thought, I don't want her anywhere near my a$$. She might give me syphilis.

Comment: Well katgrrrl> I, too, was insulted when she used the word "n-i-g-g-a" at that yacht party, but I'm just as insulted when I hear Snoop, Dre, Jezzy, Eve, or anyone else... use the same word. I slapped one of my sons in the mouth (literally) when I heard him call another guy a "n-i-g-g-a". Our elders endured years of beatings, torture, and even murder to rise above being called "n-i-g-g-a-s"... it's insulting to take us back there.

So there you have it. Before Paris got slick with the mouth, I didn't care either way about her. Now, you know why I don't like a bytch. :)

Comment: Brandon..apparently the courts (who I'm azzuming are educated) agrees w/me. I don't have any people black or yt who refer to me as n1gga. But, I do know friends who have latino and yt friends who use the term indiscriminately amongst themselves. As a black man I know that it's a deathwish to refer to a woman..ESPECIALLY a black woman as a bytch. Condi calling Hillary a bytch would be seen in a totally different light than if Cheney called her a bytch. That's not self-absorbed..it's just the way it is. Whether or not that's a double-standard is always up for discussion. Unfortunately, double-standards exists. That would explain why women child molestors don't get the same amount of sentencing as men. That's just how it is and being self-absorbed has absolutely nothing to do w/it.

Comment: Ha ha ha ha. My point "katgrrrl" is that it's kinda hypocritical to detest her for using the word "n-i-g-g-a", unless you also detest every other knucklehead (black, white, asian, latin, etc) who've also used the word. And I know you said you're "not too fond" of the word, but that doesn't mean you "take issue" with those who use it :-)

Comment: And know that everyone will not be offended by everything and there is no authority on what we should be offended by. I don't use the term ghetto because I think it offensive. But, many of those who don't use n1gga have no problem using "ghetto." I would think that hypocritical but don't see people channeling the woe's of our ancestors when they use ghetto freely and w/o a second though.

Comment: Ok Brandon, I appreciate you answering the question...and without being indignant about it. The reason that I asked you that is because our backgrounds and where we come from shape our perspectives to a large degree. After telling me a little about your ancestry, I overstand your positions more than I did before. Nuff respect. But let me say this. I read a few posts about double-standards and the like...'Herbs, I couldn't have said it better. A thing that's the same becomes totally different when the context is changed. Bottom line, we as people have been irresponsible in keeping our "business" inside the house. I grew up with the word, used the word with those whom I knew but knew instinctively when not to use it...that came from a proper home-upbringing. And even when going to high school in the late 80s, there was a white associate that thought it was ok to use the word with me - why?, I don't know because I never used the word around white people - but he quickly learned that it really wasn't cool when he found himself scuffed-up on the pavement. Case and point: It is up to us to control our culture, know it, protect it and pass it on properly. If it doesn't happen, then we see now how others come along and pimp it. Peace...
