Comment: Class also play a part in who gets coverage. I saw the story over the weekend on CNN and the young woman just happen to have been a college student who was planning to go to law school. if she had been just someone from around the way, there likely would not have been any national coverage. On the other hand, if she had been a white woman from a trailer park there would not likey be coverage either. Frankly, I'm not sure in most of these cases national coverage serves any purpose other than sensationism as long as there is plenty of local coverage. Many people go missing everyday and each case can't receive national coverage. If they did that would be the entire news cast. Therefore someone has to make a decision about who gets covered and there just isn't any fair way to do that. Maybe what the news directors need to do is ask themselves is this really a national story e.g., is the victim believed to have crossed state lines, or cases like this in which the woman lived in one state but went missing in another. However, most of the time, they just go for what they think is most sensational.

Comment: Wow! This is the first time I am hearing/reading about this person. My heart goes out to the family. But you are right, the media seems to display one story at a time and run that for about 3 months. This is like the girl in South Carolina who went missing but the pregnant Peterson girl took over the media. There is a program in our area (east coast) that is getting together with community folks to help get the word out. Let's use the power of the internet for something good and find these folks.

Comment: Stepha has been missing for about a month now come June 30. The pregnant broad was missing about two weeks and wasn't but a step up from a trailer park; they have about 1,000 civilians and enforcement officers looking for her. No disparity, surely you jest.
