Comment: If I remember correctly Rick Rubin produced some songs on Jay's last album. I also recall Jay's deal being up soon and that he and Def Jam were miles apart on the $$$ to re-sign. I find that ironic since he really hasn't posted great numbers or signed any break through acts. Jermaine & Reid go way back. Janet to Island isn't a hand down success -- especially if LA let's Jermaine produce the project. Thos ein the industry know that Rick Rubin is pretty much LA based. If Jay went to Columbia, Jay would pretty much be the East Coast guy here -- Rick Rubin hates to fly and almost never comes to NY.

Comment: Egos! Really, big egos. But you're right "Teigh", Jay-Z (like Puffy) hasn't produced any mega-million unit selling artists.

Comment: Is it true that if Jay-Z leaves Def Jam he would take artists such as Rihanna and Ne-Yo with him? I believe I read somewhere that his contract is set up as such. If that is true, what artists who sell big would Def Jam have left?

Comment: Ummm...Teigh...it has been reported that L.A. will handle the Janet Project while Jermaine will handle Mariah. But wouldn't be too surprised if J.D. doesn't do a couple of track's for Janet. Too bad J.D. and L.A. can't woo Usher away from BMG/Sony, the Artist they built. Also Jay Z has been talkin about leaving Def Jam earlier this year before J.D. even moved over. This may be just soap opera drama to get folks tounges to flap. Def Jam say Bye-Bye to Rhianna and Ne Yo since Jay is leaving. Too bad Overall Record Sales aren't what they used to be for the entire industry...thx's to free downloading, Video Games, Dvd's, and the iPod.

Comment: I agree with you soulmusic101...personally, I think Jay has lost his fire to make records as an artist and has truly embraced the business side of things. Perhaps that is why Def Jam is not willing to give him the money to re-sign with them. Let's face it, while Jay is hot, he's NOT an LL. As for him taking Ne-Yo and Rihanna with him if he goes to Columbia, that's no surprise. It happens all the time. Look at Janet. She's gone everywhere JD has so far.

Comment: Jay is hot and will benefit any label! Go to the highest bidder.. I can't blame him. There is only room for one king and that is Jay. We all see what Jermaine did with Janet's career. Nothing! Jay-z can light up any ablum...

Comment: I think there are 3 big egos there, LA eid, J-Z and JD. I can bring in some undiscovered talent. There's a few cities in the Midwest that still have not been tapped.

Comment: The bottom line is today's music is GARBAGE. Not even rap music is really selling. People simply miss the good quality of music from back in the day. I mean a Maze or Teddy Pendergrass concert will sell out within a day and neither of them have any new material out. Even rap music is garbage. Back in the day, rap music was about funky beats, having a good time, black power now its all about sex, drugs and violence. When they had the old school hip hop part on the BET awards, everybody was feeling that...I don't even listen to the radio unless its the oldies station.

Comment: Any label is only as good as the artist(s) on that label. Too many factors today determine who's gonna hit, but it's all about the music. Not personalities. And the music, for the most part, has been doodoo.

Comment: The music has been "doodoo" because the focus HAS been on the personalities...(what they may be).

Comment: Let me rant.....The music is incidental. TOTALLY. They try to "slide" you some music. And pray that you're in love with the personality. For instance (The names have been changed so I can't be sued for chicken giblets) How many times have you witnessed this vibe? NEW!!! HOT!! TAQUANNAH J!!! She's coming straight from the... "J"? . She's down with Big Nasty Records!! She's the NEW Princess of Hop Chopped!!! She's "crack"!! SHE'S FIRE!!! TJ!! She'll be on 124th and....3rd? tonight!!! Catch Taquannah!!! T-Jeeezy!!! THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!! SHE"S BANGING!!! SHE"S GOD'S WIFE!!! TAQUANNAH!!!!!!...and here's her song... "Boo". See: if you like HER then maybe they can "slide" you her music. Unlike in the 70's and 80's and some 90's everyone on this post can sing songs that they have NO idea who the artist is. Which is the original idea of the MUSIC business. To be "hooked" by the music. But now...you hear about and see all kinds of people and you have no idea WHAT THE %*$! THEY DO!!
