Comment: PRESIDENTIAL PARDON?!?! Are you freakin' kidding me? Ron Isley knowingly and willingly evaded taxes, and he willingly took and cashed checks issued in his dead brother's name. Since when does being a successful musician exempt you from being penalized when you commit a crime??? How about petitioning the President to start bringing the American soldiers home? Or how about asking the Prez to increase medicare for old people? Increase police officers or the education budget? But to waste time petitioning the President for a man who has done nothing for the very community he's seeking help from is an insult!

Comment: BREAKING NEWS!!! President Bush Pardons Ronald Isley!! Mmm....anyone? Any takers? Goimg once? Going twice? Well....?

Name: McNasty
Comment: Brandon there isn't any need for me to say more than I too co sign. I'm not even going to dog the man for his tax evasion - but what he did with his dead brother's checks is unfathomable! In the last 10-15 years Ron's health has been 'failing' but that didn't stop him from touring, marrying some youngun and reproducing AND he lives hella better than I ever will so he should have thought about what he would lose WHEN he got caught.

Name: TGen
Comment: Wow Brandon, you brought it. If indeed what IRS agents say is true about him, I co-sign. (I have to always use the "if" word cuz I've gotten to a point where I rarely trust the court systems as they've been wrong countless times). At any rate, it's interesting that the attorneys are attempting to pull the "frail health" card instead of the "he's innocent" card, lol. I'm sure the judge who denied the probation just looked at the fact that this "frail" old man JUST HAD A BABY and decided his health was good enough to stand prison or prison hospital, lol. But jokes aside, this is a sad story. A music icon is going to prison. Just...wow.

Comment: I read somewhere that Tom Joyner is behind the petition for Mr. Big to be pardoned. There were about 6200 people that signed the petition..I remember something about a letter being written referencing his failing health, age and a stroke....as respectable as Tom is I'm surprised he would even take a stance like this...correct me if I'm wrong someone but that took me by surprise with Tom...

Comment: Brother Brandon: U jist hit one out-of-park. The midia should be hounding you and not Barry Bonds! LOL! When I wuz a grad student at Fairleigh Dickinson, Teaneck, NJ almost everyday when I wuz leaving the student center, the Isley Brothers, Ron O'Kelly, Ernie, Rudolph with their numerical NJ license plates would pull up in parking lot and wooo the little white girls leaving class. Brothers would stand back and shake their heads. Talk about grandstanding 24/7.

Comment: He must have never heard the old saying "There are two things certain in life, death and taxes." The IRS don't care if you are 25 and in excellent heath or 65 and ready to kick the bucket, if you earned income they want their cut. They don't even care if your not of legal age yet, if your earned money over a certain amount, they want their cut. Even drug dealers get prosecuted for not reporting the income from illegal drug sales. IRS don't care they want their cut. And the stupid part about Ron Isley is that he was wealthly enough to pay THE MAN but was just trying to get over and now we should petition for a presidential pardon. I wish I would!

Name: greg327
Comment: This campaign to "pardon" Ronald Isley is ridiculous. Didn't anybody read about what this man has done? He is a despicable human being. Not only did he steal from the government and the taxpayers, he stole from his own brothers (the Isley Brothers), even his dead brother (O'Kelly Isley). He stole from his younger disabled brother (Marvin Isley). In his act as "Mr. Biggs," he plays a pimp who denigrates women. His "son" (best friend I guess) is R. Kelly, a child molester. He has never done anything of value for the Black community but has enriched himself off the work of the younger Isley Brothers, who wrote all the music for the Isley Brothers, and then he stole from them as well. As far as being old and disabled, why is he still on the road performing? (see youtube). Please, don't we have better things to worry about? This "campaign" is a disgrace.

The least thing we need to do is feed into already prevalent stereotypes that blacks support one another even in wrongdoing and that we embrace and endorse criminal behavior.

Name: khufu

Comment: Khufu>>>....that is the reason why I don't judge anyone. I know for a fact that I should have been facing 2-5 some years back. Through his grace, mercy and UNDESERVED kindness I'm free. Don't get me wrong my a.s.s. suffered for the self-imposed things I did and to this day I am somewhat able to possibly forgive myself for it.. when he has forgiven me through his mercy and blessings and others have already forgave. A guilty conscience is a motherFuk. R and Vic are the only ones who know what they did..right or wrong. Whether they both go to prison or not trust they are suffering and they will suffer, and they will hit some serious hardships, whether it's financial, emotional, or whatever...their conscience is going to eat away at them like flies on a waterlemon that's sitting by a trash can overflowing with smelly garbage. It's not appealing, people will walk by, look at it and will not pick it up,it smells, so people will turn up their noses to it just like what they/we are doing to Ron, R, and Vick. WE make mistakes intentionally and unintentionally. We make mistakes by being associated with the wrong folk knowing full well our parents taught us better. I learned the hard way that the flesh is weak!! I just know not to go down that path of self-imposed, self-destruction again. I know I said a guilty conscience is a mother...just ask OJ he was falling down sloppy drunk I read a couple of weeks ago...sounds hypocritical?...no, I'm just making a point maybe I only can understand. I always said that a person can make the biggest mistakes in their lives and good will come from it...whether the person is free or not, in prison or not...there will be good out of it. I was reading several other web sites and their comment boards and while I was reading I said to myself out loud: "I'm sure glad that none of those other posters around the way did not die on the cross"..I would not have stood a chance in living he.ll....Peace

Name: gingerg
Comment: lee, I'm not sure Kelly or other pedophiles have a conscience. After all, Kelly has a closeted wife and kids to think about. Didn't they factor into the equation? Also, near my city, I married man with six children was just busted for child molestation. He was a volunteer a various Christian camps for kids. He also volunteered in the Sunday School program. No one suspected him and the church can't seem to find his background check.

Comment: From reading the posts, I don't think anyone WANTS Ron to go to jail; he is old and sick and has a baby, after all. But we just find it ridiculous that he would petition the president for something so stupid, especially when he DESERVES to go to jail. When he didn't pay his taxes, the government took money from my pocket to make up for it. So yes, everyone deserves mercy. But you get mercy by saying you're sorry and working toward it. You don't get it through a shortcut or thinking you are better than everyone else in this country who would go to jail for not paying much less. I hope Wesley Snipes is paying attention.

Name: soulmusic101

Comment: I have questions 'cause I don't get some of the comments: so, where is the atonment? how does getting the AA community to sign a petition for pardon provide restitution? is there going to be any restitution for living family members? is Isley as wonderful as described in the posts and still want us to care? . . . Scooter "Sentence Commuted" Libby should not be discussed along side Isley because Libby is a friend of the POTUS who committed an act of treason by outing a CIA operative, while Isley is not a friend of the POTUS and who is basically a sad guy whose actions trashed his family and IRS . . . I stand in the middle between Brandon and leeneepoo, realizing that there should be some form of justice metted out, but what is it?

Name: ez3372
Comment: Kanye West has a better chance of getting a BIG HUG from Bush than Ron Isley getting that pardon. Bush probably doesn't even know WHO Ron Isley is! Can you see Bush on the ranch singing..."Groove with you...girl, speak your mind, Grove with you, You've been thinking all of this timeeee...Grove with you..." Ron, I'm afraid that you are going to have to do your time standing on your head, if you are waiting to get a pardon from Bush. And plus, Libby and Gonzales are WAYYYY ahead of you.

Name: realuvbaby
Comment: I don't think anyone wants to see Ron do jail time, but he made certain choices that would benefit him and his keep up that lifestyle, that he knew were wrong -- legally and morally wrong. Yea, the laws, the government is jacked up, yet we still must obey them. IF YOU DANCE TO THE MUSIC, YOU GOT TO PAY TO THE PIPER. ASK YO MAMA!! But I'm cracking up at the fact that he's not too old to screw and make babies, though.

Name: Angel
Comment: And Libby has enough dirt on Bush and his band of thieves to do some serious damage. Bush knew he didn't have a choice but to commute ol' boys sentence or he was going to start singing like a canary. So unless Ron's got dirt on Bush or one of his hired hands, I think he is wasting his time.

Name: ImJustAsking
Comment: I"m fine with Ron going to jail. White collar crime costs American taxpapers WAY more money than other types of crime and yet they always get the country club treatment. I have no sympathy for someone who has more money than me lol. Same thing goes for R. Kelly. put his azz under the jail. He had enough money to hire grown women to pretend to be teenagers so he could live out his pedophilic fantasies. Just like Nicole Richie, P Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan have enough money to have someone drive them around. And Vick gets no love for me for abusing animals. Note to justice system: do you.

Have you read the posts on this thread? The MAJORITY of the posters DO NOT feel sorry for Ron and feel that he is getting exactly what he DESERVES!!! As one of the posters said, we need to stop giving fuel to the sterotype that we make excuses for other Blacks who do wrong and the only reason we do that is because they're Black. That is so tired and played!! We saw a lot of this with O.J. I have read about a lot of Black folks RETHINKING their position as more and more facts were revealed. I remember many of us acting like O.J. was a personal friend of ours!!! Please!!! The recorded 911 tapes clearly showed that he has another side. Now, back to Ron. On other websites, for quite a while, I've been sharing my opinion about Ron. The man is nothing but a low down con artist who thinks he's above the law. EVEN AFTER he was bailed out of his financial woes by an investment group HE WENT RIGHT BACK to his wheeling and dealing!!! Ron is just a CONNIVING CREEP who is always trying to get over!! But what really disgusts me, is those of us who REFUSE to open your eyes and see this man's game because you insist on making excuses for him BECAUSE of his music!!!

Comment: And, one more thing for us to think about. There are STILL people who TURN THEMSELVES IN when they've committed crimes. THEY DECIDE TO SUBMIT TO THE CONSEQUENCES they deserve INSTEAD OF TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH IT. If this isn't a step towards character building, I don't know what is. Has anyone read about Ron voluntarily turning himself in for his crimes? He is a slickster who WANTS to be able to do wrong and get away with it. Ron wouldn't know honesty, integrity, and character if they stared him in the face!!!

Comment: bigchassie - You know dayum well that Bush's secretary's secretary threw that ish in the trash along with the junk mail from the credit card companies. Bush doesn't even have a clue about that request for pardon. LOL

Comment: I just don't understand why he would think he would need a pardon, its his second time doing this am I right? The Gubment ain't nothing to play with, I think after the first time I would have let it go...just sayin...I wish him well!!1

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: Yes, dede, he has done this before ("It's his thang"); that's why the judge referred to him as a serial tax evader. Given this track record, Bush is surely not to grant a pardon. Faced with such a request, I suspect Bush would wrinkle his brow and think to himself: "Fool me once…(3 second pause)… Shame on…(4 second pause)…Shame on you….(6 second pause)…Fool me…Can’t get fooled again"

Comment: RON ISLEY AND WESLEY SNIPES SHOULD GO INTO A TAX EVASION BUSINESS TOGETHER. MAYBE THEY SHOULD PARDON HIM AND WHEN TAX SEASON COMES AROUND, MAKE HIM RIDE UP AND DOWN EVERY STREET IN EVERY HOOD IN THE UNITED STATES WITH A BULLHORN YELLING "PAY YO DAMN TAXES NEGGAZ, YOU DON'T WANT TO END UP LIKE MY AZZ. THE IRS IS A MUTHA FUKKA". ALSO MAKE HIM DO COMMERCIALS ON BET DURING TAX SEASON. "WHAT'S UP NEGGAZ? THIS IS RONALD ISLEY. JUST REMINDING YOU TO PAY YO DAMN TAXES. PUT THEM GREASY AZZ PORCH CHOPS DOWN AND GET YO BLACK AZZES DOWN TO H&R BLOCK RIGHT NOW CAUSE THE IRS DON'T FUKK AROUND."

Comment: If you do the Crime you have to do the time, I am personally sick of us gathering behind a criminal because he or she is black, MJ (for some not me) OJ (not me again) and RI(still not me) I mean this waters down us standing for real causes. Da$%itt stop marching for BS. Do you think MALCOLM or MARTIN would be march for this? Huh? I asked a question! The answer is Hell to the No!

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: This is just how much the system has your azzes wrapped around it's finger - THERE IS NO LAW FOR PAYING TAXES!!! Truthfully he is in the right and the gubment is in the wrong because they can't produce one law on the books saying it's illegal if you don't pay taxes. Got y'all all conditioned.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: And besides all the corporate welfare and the rich muthafuccas that don't pay none, and those who ain't robbin' the "taxpayers" blind, and this includes the prez and every other official from the feds on down to those in city and state gov't. They all got you bambozzled and into payin' for their lifestyles, while you pay through the nose for something that you don't have to. Ain't even law!!! LMBAO!!!

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: mothership: Assuming you are correct that there is no law requiring payment of taxes, there sure as heyall is a law allowing the govt to put your azz in jail if you don't pay them. Dayum right I'm conditioned -- conditioned against wanting to chill in Club Fed. By the way, since you presumably pay no taxes, I assume you do not use any of the services some of the taxes provide (e.g., fireman/police/public roads, etc.). I actually agree with you that corporations and the wealthy get way too many tax breaks and subsidies on the backs of the rest of us, I just think your general premise that no one should pay taxes ever is a bit extreme and unrealistic. Peace.

Comment: I totally agree with Brandon, Bush is not going to waste his time pardon somebody that means nothing to him. Ron Isley has been avoiding taxes for years now he's crying the blues. Too bad! He wasn't too sick when he married that little child looking tramp and spent millions on a wedding when he should have been doing the right thing. Let him go to prison and suffer. He will look nice in designer stripes.

Comment: Co-sign with Brandon!!! My people have bigger fish to fry than saving sorry azz rich black folks who don't want to pay their taxes. I think it was Cos who said as a black man in America you should know to over-pay your taxes so they have to send you a refund.

Comment: Ummm....Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution states "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States."

Comment: Mothership just ask the Peep's if they have evr seen the DVD "Freedom To Facism" and then let's have a real discussion about paying Taxes.

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: co-sign Angel! Soulmusic, I am familiar with Freedom to Fascism, so let the discussion begin. 1. As Angel so aptly pointed out, Art. 1, Sec. 8 of the Constitution authorizes Congress to collect taxes. 2. Congress has enacted Title 26 of the U.S. Code, also known as the Tax Code (not to be confused with the tax regulations as one of the star "experts" of the flick, Irwin Schiff apparently did) 3. Speaking of Schiff, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison and ordered to pay $4.2 million (in an apparent attempt to reduce his sentence, post-conviction he claimed his beliefs re taxes was influenced by a mental disorder). Another person mentioned in the documentary, Vernice Kuglin was acquitted of tax evasion but nevertheless agreed to pay $500,000 in a settlement with the govt. 4. I'm not sure how the film changes the ultimate reality that if you willfully choose not to pay taxes, you will likely go to jail.

Comment: Sewrite is so right. Ron Isley has stolen from his family members and has never written an Isley Brothers song in his life. Just put his name on the other brothers' hard work.
