Comment: Talese sounds unqualified to publish toilet paper let alone books! Oprah was withjn her rights to treat him like a dirty dishrag if she wanted - frey is a plagarist and he was caught dead to rights. She must be drumming up support for another shoddy project!

Comment: It matters because Oprah holds in her hands the power to destroy or at least seriously derail someone's career. I never agreed with her public roasting of him. I think she gave into pressure from people telling her she had been had. She should have stuck to her guns and supported him. The book reportedly was very helpful to many readers. For Oprah that should have far outweighed her bruised ego.

Comment: Oprah exposed that fraud with class. It was James Frey's choice to come back on the show. He knew she was going to expose him. His editor needs to stop with that nonsense and get a life.

Comment: This is crazy that the editor of a "nonfiction" book that contained outright lies has the nerve to even bring this up. His publisher looks like she wants some attention. She should be grateful to Oprah for even giving them the second interview. Even with that blasting... she still probably helped them with sales. I think the editor is looking for relevance. Shut the hell up already and go away.

Comment: I think Oprah, regardless of public pressure or anyone else trying to whisper in her ear, reacted from her own point of view. In that she has the power to destroy a career she also has the power to act under her own steam. This man truly pis.sed her off and I don't blame her one iota for how she reacted. Folk conveniently forget O is human and subject to that thing called human nature!

Comment: ATLgirl> I'm in total agreement with you. Shame on you EurWeb! That liar did not have to even come back on Oprah's show to address his lies. He agreed to do it. So what did he and his stupid editor expect Oprah to do, kiss his azz? What idiots.

Comment: OK...first of all y is this a story and secondly why is the editor still harping on this. I remember this, I saw both shows. On first show she had much love for him. On the second show Oprah was %*$!ed and she did not hide the fact she was pizzed and she did critizied him to no end. Even though the book was fiction it did (supposedly)helped some people with their addiction which they were on Oprah's show too. BUT, what I do not understand is the Editor still talking about this considering this happen what about year and a half to two years ago. I'm sure Oprah is loosing much sleep.

Comment: Talese is an idiot. As the editor/publisher, it is HER responsibility to make sure the book is properly labeled as fiction or nonfiction, not the readers. If that's her attitude, she needs to label everything she endorses as fiction and not waste folks time, since she doesn't want to do her job and check sources and facts. I'm sure her colleagues at that NONFICTION convention were like "WTF is she saying? She is not with me." LOL

Comment: The YT woman (in general) would love nothing but to bring Oprah (a strong Black woman) down. But too late. She's not reachable anymore. Oprah has learned how to play the game and play it well. Any and everything she believed could possibly be seen as harmful to her career or self image, she blast it before anyone else has the chance. And how she spins it is phenonomenal. She got wise and stopped letting them totally control / manage her money too. This was a very smart move, she saw that they'd be rockin boats in St. Topaz talkin bout they 'earned' it fair n square-off her ill-gotten money and she'd be on Skidd Row with a tin can in her hand....At the point where she's boosted many a career these lil mice trying to bite at her, most likely don't make Oprah lose any sleep.

Comment: indipindintthnkr - The YT woman MADE Oprah. They could've easily gone crazy for one of the YT talk show hosts, but they followed Oprah like a cult almost from day 1. If you say something bad about Oprah, it is the YT women (soccer moms) that will scratch your eyes out first. It is the strangest thing I've ever seen. One of my YT coworkers called the ticket hotline daily for like 6 months trying to get tickets. That's crazy!! But you are right about her taking control of her finances and controlling her show. She said that Roger Ebert schooled her on that early.

Comment: I agree that Oprah showed "bad manners." I really don't think that Frey knew she would attack him the way she did. I'm sure he was invited to come back to explain why he had invented some of his story, but since she invited him to do that, she could have shown her displeasure without going as far as she did. I saw it and all I wondered was why he sat there and took it. Whatever I did, I would have WALKED and let her finish THAT discussion with her audience. He was still a guest and she was rude.

Comment: Oprah had every right to skewer that liar!! It's mindboggling his editor would have the audacity to stick up for him. She's PO'd they couldn't sell more of his "lies". One thing about them...they circle the wagons no matter what.

Comment: This woman is mad because she was put on last due to his deception. I truly agree with the way Oprah handled this. She chose this man's book and to have him 'dupe' her in front of millions of viewer's was totally wrong and to me she did the right thing by blasting his azz on national tv. This woman is mad because after the fallout from the book - sale's definitely declined and she was attacked for not doing her homework (research)on the validity of the book and it's contents..nuff said!
